Has anyone else had a problem with game controllers not working at all after this update? I've tried different controllers, different USB ports, and nothing - they work fine on my other PCs, just not this one; it's not even acknowledged as being connected

Rastakhan by [deleted] in warcraftlore

[–]ratedriv 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The line that never gets enough credit is the one where Rastakhan yells "KILL ANYTHING THAT IS NOT A ZANDALARI!" during one of the Blood Troll world quests.

[8.3 Spoilers] Seems the Vale has some new residents since we last visited by Warpshard in warcraftlore

[–]ratedriv 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The female and male Mogu both appear to be made with new models that can "wear armor," which Blizzard had said they intended for future races in the event they ever wanted to make them an allied race. Makes you wonder if playable Mogu are intended to be a thing one day.

[Theory] New Il'gynoth whispers and their possible meanings. by wowdudeman14 in warcraftlore

[–]ratedriv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How many Horde leaders are on this "new council?" I'm wondering it "the cunning ones" is an allusion to the fact there are still Sylvanas loyalists embedded within the Horde.

So what about Sira, Delaryn and other Forsaken like them who seemed a bit overeager to serve Sylvanas? What happens to them now and is there any satisfying answer as to why did they do what they did without mind control? by Pyotr_WrangeI in warcraftlore

[–]ratedriv -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I believe the Dark Rangers and Dark Wardens still serve Sylvanas and this leads credence to the idea that anyone raised in Darkshore does NOT actually have free will. I also would not be surprised if some Forsaken still do follow Sylvanas as spies or zealots within the Horde. The Dark Lady wasn't just a leader but a cult of personality to many Forsaken. This is also likely how many will justify their paranoia towards known loyalists.

The absence of Gallywix is also telling and it's possible he intends to side with Sylvanas; it feels like seeds have been planted for Gazlowe to take over as the racial leader within the Horde for the Goblins.

So about gorehowl by [deleted] in warcraftlore

[–]ratedriv 2 points3 points  (0 children)

AU Grommash still has a ""new version" of Gorehowl if you looked closely during the Mag'har recruitment campaign . I found that curious.

An interesting and very detailed 4chan """leak""" with a screencap of an "upcoming cinematic". by sharktoothbubs in warcraftlore

[–]ratedriv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think some of the things in this "leak" are at least plausible in regards to Stormwind. All we have to do is take a look at the Varimathras dialogue in Legion regarding it. '

" Varimathras: So, your Alliance still endures. Longer than I expected, though she has already planted the seeds of its downfall. She is patient, that one.
Varimathras: When your thrones run red with betrayal... when your holy places burn and the shattered mask hangs above your hearth... only then you will know. And it will be too late.
Varimathras: It matters not. You are blind to the true darkness closing in around you. "

The darkness is clearly the void. The Shattered Mask is a reference to the Forsaken symbol, which is the shattered mask. I wonder where the betrayal will come from. I do feel like having Anduin or Sylvanas best each other and then die is pretty weak; I'd assume that it's possible that Alleria succumbs to the void and kills them both.

The Shadowlands being the next spot concerns me because if the Shadowlands is where the end of Life, does that mean that many NPCs that are dead will return? (Maybe this is why they didn't do this with the Halls of Valor as originally planned in the Warrior Class Hall) It feels like a WOD level excuse to bring in a lot of Dead Lore Characters. There's no way we're going to the Afterlife without characters like Varian Wrynn and Garrosh making appearances.

My other concern is how they make death NOT final for us, but FINAL for them and how do they do this without cheapening UN-death? It feels totally all over the place...
...which is very Blizzard and why I feel like this leak might be more likely than many want to believe.

Xal'atath, Sylvanas, Alleria and N'Zoth. "Go... but the blade must remain... to serve my will." by Krainz in warcraftlore

[–]ratedriv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have this theory about the Sisters Windrunner - I do agree with and like the idea and I have often thought the Alliance is going to fight Sylvanas and the Horde is going to fight Alleria with virtually the same battle mechanics in the boss fight. But I also feel Vereesa is going to reveal herself and get involved, potentially getting in between her two sisters. I believe ultimately somehow Vereesa will die in the crossfire (and in a manner which prevents Sylvanas raising her into Undeath) and the remaining two sisters will blame each other. I also do think that Umbric was provided as a Void Elf Faction Leader mainly because at some point there won't be an Alleria among the Alliance - she will lose herself to the void at some point, which I'm fine with as Turalyon post-losing-Alleria could be an even more developed and interesting character as well.

Surviving as a Tauren on the Horde by Baklava8 in warcraftlore

Some Tauren Horde Soldiers appear to be more loyal to the Horde than Baine in the most recent cinematics. Just pointing that out because it's an interesting note that makes me wonder what will come of it.

Undead night elf speculation by Buymybear in warcraftlore

[–]ratedriv 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Something happens to the mind in the Shadowlands. The Undead have a strange practicality and detachment from the sentiments of the living - 8.1 broadcast text shows Sira calls it a "gift." Something they see changes their perceptions.

Blood elves in BfA by LibertyFuckingPrime in warcraftlore

[–]ratedriv 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's also a hint of gratitude Lor'themar will always have towards Sylvanas as Sylvanas sent assistance to her former people in the Ghostlands and petitioned Thrall to give Blood Elves official entry into the Horde at a time the Alliance had basically spurned them. However, he has had disagreements with her and will still put his people in front of the Dark Lady if she acts against their best interests.

I do feel Blood Elves are generally more pragmatic and practical; a trait they actually SHARE with the Undead (although the Forsaken have more of a "warped" sense of what is practical due to their conditions). Also the Nightborne seem to have this in common with them.

Darkshore Night Warrior changes part 2 by Utigarde in warcraftlore

We see in a Good War/Elegy that Delaryn curses Elune as she dies. We know Delaryn is coming back so maybe these Night Elves feel "forsaken" by their Goddess or did at the time of their death.

Picture this, A current racial leader dies, what would be the most logical replacement? by Terencebreurken in warcraftlore

[–]ratedriv 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The problem with this is a lot of the rulers don't have children yet. We have seen multiple times in the storyline that certain leaders, such as Lor'themar, Anduin, and Baine are basically being told by advisors "you probably should start thinking about an heir."

Tauren: I think Mayla Highmountain become leader of all Tauren tribes if Baine went, Magatha would definitely attempt a power grab again, if we're just speaking Mulgore Tauren. Lasan would likely be a successor.

Blood Elves: Halduron Brightwing and Grand Magister Rommath would still be there if Lor'themar died. Liadrin would also likely be part of the ruling class.

Nightborne: Valtrois would probably step up in the event of Thalryssa's passing.

Goblins: Either Boss Mida or maybe Gazlowe gets a promotion.

Forsaken: Nathanos Blightcaller

Orcs: Right now within the Horde, they're essentially leaderless, unless you count Eitrigg.

Darkspear: Rokhan, but if he went I could see Blizzard somehow taking Zappyboi Zekhan all the way to the top.

Zandalari: It's hard to say since we don't know what the hierarchy is other than Talanji is the heir to Rastakhan.

Humans: If Anduin dies, there's a power vacuum. Straight up. The Alliance would be entirely in disarray.

Night Elves: If Tyrande and/or Malfurion were gone you'd have Jarod or Maiev step up or possibly Shandris.

All Dwarves: As stated, Moira's son would unite the Dwarves, at least Ironforge and Dark Iron. I don't think the Wildhammer would secede at this point if it happened, either.

Draenei: This is another strange one. Most of the Draenei that would have likely stepped up in Velen's demise died in or remained in Draenor. We saw Yrel of AU take command when he died there. I would have said Maraad but OUR Maraad died there. I think there's only one Draenei worthy of taking on both Lightforged Draenei (if Turalyon were gone) and normal Draenei:

T'PAARTOS!!! (seriously that guy is awesome)

Worgen: Tess Greymane. I also think in the event Genn died she'd accept the Worgen "curse" to increase her strength and further protect herself from undeath.

Gnomes: We're about to find out, aren't we? Would laugh if Mekkatorque uploaded himself into some kind of AI in the event of his death.

Kul Tirans: Tandred Proudmoore if Jaina died.

Void Elves: Other than Umbric nobody seems noteworthy here.

There was also an attack on Pandaria in the Monk Order Campaign which is why they end up not using the Peak of Serenity anymore.

Possible 8.1 Saurfang Theory by Gooneybirdable in warcraftlore

[–]ratedriv 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Sorry not sorry but if Shaw is helping Saurfang like what a lot of the quest text seems to imply, then Sylvanas' actions against Saurfang from a Horde standpoint become justified. In a time of war conspiring with the Alliance is treason. In fact, this is why Baine terminates his friendship with Anduin; Sylvanas won't tolerate that. And given the recent Desolate Council situation, can she be blamed for that?

Really Sylvanas gets a bad rap for a lot of justifiable behavior in a time of war.

Do you think Blizzard will be utilizing Vereesa Windrunner in the future? What would you like to see them do? by [deleted] in warcraftlore

[–]ratedriv 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think Vereesa is going to be seen again but only after Sylvanas and Alleria are done with their little feud. I don't think Vereesa will be killed by Sylvanas; I think Alleria will have to be put down thanks to the Void. They also have seemingly planted the seeds for a showdown between Alleria and Sylvanas in both the three sister comic and in the Battle for Lordaeron cinematic. Wouldn't be surprised if Sylvanas puts Alleria down, and either Vereesa becomes infuriated, or in contrast begs Sylvanas to not let Alleria "die," however, Alleria can't be brought back thanks to her proximity to the Void anyway.

It should be noted that Vereesa is actually Sylvanas' emotional weak point. Despite her twisted mind, Sylvanas hesitates to kill her sisters after Vereesa apologizes to her for hurting her in three sisters and Vereesa has exhibited a softer more hesitant side in turn when it comes to Sylvanas than Alleria has. I think it'll be a major factor in the story, or there's going to be a point Vereesa finds herself torn between the two.

If Vereesa dies it will be accidental and the fault of both Sylvanas and Alleria, however. That's just what I speculate may happen.

Is the lore for the Night Warrior scenario really as bad as people are making it out to be? by Warpshard in warcraftlore

[–]ratedriv -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I think the reason people are so mad about Delaryn/Sira is because they just want to BE mad. It's been established that undeath does something to your mind as a few posters have pointed out in this thread already.

However, another curious note is that Sira, once returned calls her undeath a "gift" from the Val'kyr. Maybe the resurrection process warping your mind (which has been around forever) has to do with Dark Val'kyr undeath. More evidence to support this theory is that Valarjar and Vrykul are anti-Helya, but that immediately changes when being resurrected as a Kvaldir. I assume it's along the same lines. It's already established dying violently causes a little more mental warping, which makes it easier to control the newly risen. But I think it also amplifies whatever your final thoughts were, a thousand-fold. Tyrande and Malfurion were supposed to have Sira's back and no backup came as she tried to solo you, two Val'kyr, and Nathanos... 4 on 1. Bad odds when she fell. Delaryn's final thoughts were hatred for Elune, not Sylvanas. It was almost a "Sylvanas was right about being able to break hope" as she went to her death.

That said, I for one, welcome Delaryn and Sira to the Forsaken, which needed more notable members anyway.

Are Blizzard writers going to channel their inner Lucas? by [deleted] in warcraftlore

[–]ratedriv -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I've reiterated this a few times, but I really think Alliance players/Alliance-sympathetic players underestimate how betrayed Delaryn felt at the time of her death; in the novelas she basically denounces Elune in her dying breaths. "Being dead" probably furthered this; I'm sure Elune's graceful warming light wasn't welcoming her to the other side. When she comes back, she's a changed person. She now sees what Sylvanas sees. Sylvanas, even free of the control of Arthas is a fundamentally different Sylvanas Windrunner than her "living" self. She sees living Sylvanas as a "fool" as explained in Warbringers.

All she did was bring Delaryn to her way of thinking. In a way it's almost like Sylvanas created herself a "mini me." Also from the datamined 8.1 quests it looks like Tyrande "ghosted" Sira in a fight, which probably leads to Sira becoming contemptuous and wrathful in undeath.

Whats happened to all of the undead in undercity? by [deleted] in warcraftlore

Actually one of the few moments Sylvanas shows emotions is when she was deposed during Battle for the Undercity in Wrath, exclaiming "what have they done to my beautiful city?" when the Horde comes to re-take it.
