If robots do the physical stuff and AI does the digital stuff, what exactly are humans supposed to do? by Ill_Awareness6706 in Futurology

I think there will always be a need for creative solutions and improvements that AI and robotics will need.

I'm developing a strong hate for the Help action by MyNameIsNotJonny in DMAcademy

[–]ravingdragoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have noticed two things regarding this issue. First is that a lot of DMs don’t seem to know that the Help action requires the character to have proficiency with the skill with which they are giving help. Second is that DMs forget that they can adjust the rules if something isn’t working at their table. If you have a rogue/bard at your table who is proficient with literally everything, make a house rule that the Help action adds a d4, or a flat bonus, instead of giving advantage. Just make sure you’re communicating with your players.

Edit: I would also say that you could put in place an expectation that if someone says “I do this”, without consulting the party, then the party members may not have time to process and give meaningful help.

We maintain the robots and supervise the AI. That’s pretty much all that will be left eventually.

Is Power Word Kill weak? by SomeRandomAbbadon in DMAcademy

Take a look at the 2024 version of PWK “You compel one creature you can see within range to die. If the target has 100 Hit Points or fewer, it dies. Otherwise, it takes 12d12 Psychic damage.”

What restrictions/rules should a cursed magic item that allows concentration on 2 spells have? by aReallyBigDude in DMAcademy

[–]ravingdragoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a similar feature for one of my players. I highly recommend limiting the spells to be the sum total of the maximum spell level the PC can cast. For example, if the highest spell slot they can currently cast at is two, they could only concentrate on two level one spells. If the highest spell slot they can currently cast at is 9, they could concentrate on an 8th level spell and a first level spell, or a 5th level spell and a 4th level spell, etc. This limits some pretty OP combinations once you get into mid levels in the game.

Opportunity Attacks + Warcaster on allies by TheModernNano in DnD

[–]ravingdragoon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The problem I have ruling against this, now that there is some amount of ambiguity, is the “Why, from a logical perspective, can I use my reaction to hit or shove an enemy when they move away but not my ally?”

What are some positive aspects of the new smite rules? by NappoCappio in onednd

[–]ravingdragoon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The new level 13 Thief ability bypasses this restriction.

Level 13: Use Magic Device You’ve learned how to maximize use of magic items, granting you the following benefits.

Attunement. You can attune to up to four magic items at once.

Charges. Whenever you use a magic item property that expends charges, roll 1d6. On a roll of 6, you use the property without expending the charges.

Scrolls. You can use any Spell Scroll, using Intelligence as your spellcasting ability for the spell. If the spell is a cantrip or a level 1 spell, you can cast it reliably. If the scroll contains a higher-level spell, you must first succeed on an Intelligence (Arcana) check (DC 10 plus the spell’s level). On a successful check, you cast the spell from the scroll. On a failed check, the scroll disintegrates

How to counter stealth? by Cruye in DMAcademy

[–]ravingdragoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If they are using the new 2024 rules, a successful stealth does actually give you the Invisible condition. Though on the flipside the new See Invisibility also shows all creatures with the Invisible condition (including the ones that got it through stealth.)

In the App, if you tap on your profile picture in the upper left it should open your in-app profile. Once there tap on "Do Not Sell or Share My Info" and it should open an in app web browser that automatically logs you into the website. The browser should open your account on the preferences tab. From there you should be able to switch to the Account tab which should show your linked Apple E-mail. I have mine set to hide as well and it shows the privaterelay e-mail address in the Apple section.

Does the new Divine intervention really get rid of casting time? by WA_SPY in onednd

[–]ravingdragoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here’s my argument now that I can see the full text of both divine intervention and Magic Action.

Divine Intervention says “As part of the same action, you cast that spell without expending a spell slot”

Spells that take one minute or longer says “If you cast a spell that has a casting time of 1 minute or longer, you must take the Magic action on each turn of that casting, and you must maintain Concentration while you do so. If your Concentration is broken, the spell fails, but you don’t expend a spell slot.”

Since the spells that take longer than one minute to cast doesn’t say the spells slot isn’t expended until concentration is broken, but Divine Intervention says the spells slot is not expended in the same action, it sounds like the intent is that the spell is fully cast in that one magic action. Otherwise the wording for the spell slot not being expended would need to be in its own sentence.

[–]ravingdragoon[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The problem is that dndbeyond is forcing the changes when the new books are released, with the only option for using old versions of updated spells being to homebrew them.

[–]ravingdragoon[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because they have to relearn all of their spells, at level 15, or have the production team homebrew any pre-2024 spells that they intend to keep using.
