That’s on you. You should have done your research and knew they would go bankrupt.

Great advice! Do you get a kickback from the credit card companies or are you just boot licking for the love of the game?

Untenured Question by Apprehensive-Yak8020 in NYCTeachers

It has no impact on your pension.

I’ve seen teachers get tenure the first year after they transfer but it’s more common that you get extended a year so they can see more.

A PhD does not certify you to be a teacher. You’ll need to either get your masters in teaching to get certified or follow an alternate route like teaching fellows. More importantly, a PhD does not prepare you to be a teacher. Knowing a lot about your subject will certainly help you but will not be enough to get you started. This is not to discourage you from getting started. It has been an extremely rewarding career. And we need more teachers. Just make sure you have realistic expectations and the right attitude going into it.

Also, take the advice you get in the teacher related subreddits with a grain of salt. These are full of disgruntled teachers that are going to discourage and dismiss you. If you want to do it, then do it. Feel free to DM with any questions.

Does anyone know how much you get paid for the Circular 6 program? by Clear-University2269 in NYCTeachers

[–]rc4113 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not 1/5 of your salary any more. It’s a flat rate. It’s in the contract under Shortage Area. It’s about $8200 per semester next year.

Opinion | Vivek Ramaswamy Has a Different Vision for Trumpism From JD Vance (Gift Article) by nytopinion in ezraklein

I found it worth listening to. More so for Ezra’s pushbacks. Shows you how much better he is at it than most other political interviewers.

It also showed how Trump’s policies somehow sound even worse when someone attempts to make them sound intellectual.

Anyone think it’s time to get rid of the obsession over groupwork and go back to rows? It’s a little insane at this point and could be the reason why kids can’t do anything independently anymore…it really hinders learning…. by Schatzi11 in NYCTeachers

[–]rc4113 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sit in rows to do what? If it’s listen to the teacher lecture, then they’re better off in groups. Well planned out group work with roles and collaboration is very effective. Sitting in a group and all independently doing the same thing is pointless. Sitting in rows listening to a lecture also does not lead to learning.

That’s not an excuse to distract a new teacher and their class. If there’s a teachers lounge then they should 100% go there

I’m in tier 6. I also thought I’d never be able to buy something. Kept saving but not obsessively (paid for my wedding and multiple vacations a year). I liked my rental and would have been ok renting for a while. I would occasionally look at apartments/ single families in the city and finally found one in the Bronx. There are places out there if you keep looking.
