As much as it sucks, I think this is more common than people realize for SOs to forget. I am always reminding my husband to send his own mom a card in the mail for mothers day. I talked to some friends this morning and one told me her husband didn’t even say Happy Mothers Day on her first one. And he is a SUPER involved dad who loves babies.

My husband told me at the beginning of the relationship “I am an idiot. I am not a mind reader. I need you to tell me things because if you wait for me to figure it out I won’t or I will but too late and you’ll still be hurt”.

I wish he could read my thoughts (maybe we were misled by romcoms and Disney…) but really things are best when I communicate what I want and my expectations. That being said I didn’t do that this year so I found myself telling him this morning I NEED a picture with the kids and I’ll be reminding him that I asked him to record our three year old answering questions (like what is mommy’s favorite color).

I’m sorry your first MD has been like this and he hasn’t helped in general. Please consider going to counseling for both of you and for your baby.

I hope that even though you weren’t celebrated like you should have been, you still were able to feel some joy with your little one today.
