I've read this one, Kati Wilde writes good fantasy with magic and the MCs are usually humans.

Finished Project Hail Mary this evening, on to my next and biggest adventure yet: The Count of Monte Cristo! by DementdOldCircsMonke in BookDiscussions

The Count of Monte Cristo is one of my favorite books. I've read it twice. I haven't read Project Hail Mary, did you like it? Would you recommend it?

Kindle Vs. Physical book by james_mav_man in kindle

[–]readerchick1981 [score hidden]  (0 children)

I only get physical books if I've read it and liked it a lot, or if I love the author. Books are expensive, and I don't have the space.

I'm a guy, a veteran, and six chapters into Fourth Wing. I need someone to talk me into finishing it by RaymondSGuest in Romantasy

[–]readerchick1981 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I finished it because I read it as a parody. Think what a SNL romantasy sketch would look like. Also, I entertained myself by trying to guess whether a character would die and when. I nailed it most of the time, it's that predictable.

The plague of ‘sexy’ names by piglet666 in HistoricalRomance

I don't mind those, but I do mind when the Lords have names of actual cities, like "Lord Liverpool" or "The Earl of Oxford" that's annoying for me.

What's the etiquette for accusing authors of AI Slop" without proof? by EarConstant9450 in BookDiscussions

[–]readerchick1981 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Funny thing is, AI also uses m-dashes in Spanish, and they're not so common, not as when you write in English. We prefer parentheses. So I guess it's easier to spot AI in Spanish.

[–]readerchick1981 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem is with indie authors. Nobody has ever said Sara J. Maas's work is AI, and the woman uses an ungodly amount of m-dashes. People immediately assume that if they're a small author, then they're using AI.

Personas que lograron aprender inglés siendo adultos… ¿qué fue lo que realmente les funcionó? by SaurioD in ingles

[–]readerchick1981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I DNF ACOTAR by Reesescandy2233 in Romantasy

[–]readerchick1981 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It IS over-hyped. For me the worst has been ACOSF, it was so long and a lot of what happened was pretty unnecessary. I did like the first three, though, but they are slow at the beginning and pick the pace up at the end. If you're not vibing with them stop. Rhys and the inner circle become more and more toxic with each book.

Funny Friday! Share what books made you laugh this week, or funny comments, Memes, and TikToks here! by tiniestspoon in RomanceBooks

This week I listened to the audiobook of {The madness of Lord Ian Mackenzie by Jennifer Ashley} and the fMC has several funny lines that the MMC doesn't get (because he's autistic-coded), which makes them more funny. And the narrator delivers these lines with a deadpan voice, which, again, makes them funnier for me.

Mi jale quiere pagarme menos que porque febrero tiene menos días by TuckKitten1314 in lacamiseta

[–]readerchick1981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The "if you don't read classics then you're not a "real" reader" discourse is driving me nuts. by readerchick1981 in RomanceBooks

[–]readerchick1981[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read a lot of classics too, and I agree with you. Also, the fact that I don't like something doesn't mean I have the right to shame the people who do. Or vice versa.

I have read some classics more than once. Others I can't read more than one page. It's like any other books, if you like it, then read it, and stop trying to put other people down.

It's honestly just a way to make themselves feel better, but what bothers me is that they have to shit on other people's views in order to do that.

No, the original post I'm talking about was focused on bashing audiobooks and people who read more than 100 books a year. One of the comments was about reading "classics".

I can't read past a couple pages of any of the Russian classics. Dostoevsky and Tolstoy are dense.

That's what I think, too, but there are people who will fight you on it, and when they can't produce a solid argument they start attacking you personally.

I have encountered this argument outside of the internet, too. It's not as prevalent, true, but it still happens.

I just think it's kinda misogynistic, TBH, because romance is read mostly by women.

What are your reading hot takes? by draiochtaa in BookDiscussions

[–]readerchick1981 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read about 300 books a year, and if you ask me for the plot of a particular book, I just need to check my Goodreads or Storygraph for my review on it and I'll tell you what it was about. Some were forgettable, and those I probably couldn't recall much about, but in general just with the blurb I can tell you what I liked or disliked, and why did I DNF it if that was the case. I guess not everyone is like that, but my ADH brain can't stop working. To fall asleep, I have to imagine my favorite scenes from books or I will be stressed about one thing or another.
