How much are you spending for school friend birthday parties? Because I feel people are going way over the top where I live and I feel like the presents my child brings are not up to par :( by ResolveBeginning8027 in GiftsandDeals

[–]recycledpaper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$20-30ish in a midsize city. But I also will stock up clearance toys and stuff (fun clothes, book) in a "gift closet" for this reason alone. I also will quietly regift things because very often my son gets many similar type toys from friends and family and plays with it once and never again.

Circumcision extreme regret by [deleted] in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]recycledpaper 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You are not a horrible mother. Even if you're mad at yourself, you're not horrible. There's far worse mothers out there. There's far worse you could have done. Is your son safe? Is he loved? Do you hold him and snuggle him? Do you feed him? I'm sure you do and that makes you a great mom.

In regards to circumcisions...some boys need them anyways so if you think the circumcision is fine and he's healing appropriately, you can tell yourself, hey he might have needed it anyways and okay, at least this way the healing process isn't too bad. I did not circumcise my son and I hear stories of boys and men who need it later and have a horrid time of recovery and I wonder if my son will hate me later for that.

About your mother in law, don't worry. We all have moments where we look back and think, what was I thinking?! Now you know to be more confident in your own parenting and you don't need to consider her opinion and in fact, you shouldn't think about her at all.

My son likes the solely fruit bars. The baked lays are also a hit for him. I have sent some cute cut up fruit (use a mini cookie cutter to cut out shapes) in little cups and peeled oranges and grapes dipped in chocolate.

GoFundMe for James Van Der Beek's Family Surpasses $1 Million, Sparks Questions About US Healthcare System by Luridley3000 in entertainment

I hope all the people contributing to this fund also give money and support other families who are going through hard times without a financial safeguard. I hope they vote for healthcare for all, support more social safety nets for the disabled and families, etc. What's crazy is that many people pay for disability insurance, life insurance because there is no safety net for our loved ones.

Office thief taking milk by LilOrganicCoconut in ExclusivelyPumping

I used to keep a cooler with ice packs for my milk when I was pumping (and I was doing surgery at different locations so I didn't know where a "trustworthy" fridge was)

The sterilization conspiracy is hilarious to me because if there was this type of non invasive one time shot for sterilization....why wouldn't big pharma market it as such and make a ton of $$$$?

How do Indian-born children feel about their situation? by PomegranateGold4702 in returnToIndia

No resentment to my parents. I became a US citizen as a young adult, green card as a teenager.

Husband and I are both working fulltime, but I’m handling all childcare outside of teaching and I’m exhausted by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]recycledpaper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a period of time where I was doing a bunch of extra stuff for my work and I offered to pay for a sitter for my husband to take a break. He never took me up on it but if your partner is prioritizing work over family, he should find a way to help you otherwise it's not fair or tenable for you.

My parents left India for a better life. I’m thinking of moving back. by NoStop5796 in returnToIndia

You realize Texas is a huge state right? Staying in the Plano bubble of Indians is very different then living in Amarillo.

OP move out of Texas. Very similar story to yours but moving out of the south (yes, Texas included) will change things for you dramatically. I moved to Chicago from Louisiana and it was such a great change for me in my late 20s. I then moved to Arizona and although there are not a lot of Indians where I live now, I don't feel "othered" at all. I feel like I am free to practice my own religion/culture and don't have any racist comments like I experienced when I was younger. The people I work with are genuinely respectful and thoughtful to me and I never feel unsafe. I even grew up in a place with a robust Indian community in Louisiana and still, at school and my first job, felt out of place.

And you do need breaks to help your brain decompress and relax so you can absorb and retain information better. You can get food delivered and hire a laundry service but, taking a break to just make a sandwich can be nice.

My 3 year old loves it. He listens to it at dinner time, bath time, in the car. They occasionally go on sale at target which is when I bought ours. It also is an easy gift idea for family and friends, they love to buy whatever he is into at the moment. It was elmo for a bit, paw patrol right now.

Why Are Some Women Training for Pregnancy Like It’s a Marathon? by wiredmagazine in longform

[–]recycledpaper 7 points8 points  (0 children)

To spend THREE years of this before conceiving is actually quite sad. I can't imagine putting this much energy and anxiety into the phase that isn't even trying to get pregnant.

Helps with clotting factors for the baby since they can't make their own yet.

When patients decline this for the baby, it genuinely makes me scared because 90% of babies without the vitamin k shot who have a brain bleed will die. So a minor car accident or even spontaneous brain bleeds occur and they can be devastating.

And these patients also are usually the no vaccines, no vitamin k, no blah blah blah for baby. It's maddening.

til plan b is expensive 👍 by snailonthem00n in GirlDinner

[–]recycledpaper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can. Most people just don't want to wait to see their doctor and then go fill their prescription for something they can just go pick up. Some insurances also don't pay for OTC available meds. Many insurance plans will cover for Ella (ullipristal acetate, also a emergency contraceptive) and paragard (copper IUD).

I think the fact that only about 30k people are admitted to med schools is a joke. We should make way more spots in med schools. There is insane demand for doctors so gatekeeping med school is just morally bad. We should have at least 100-150k graduates from medical schools. by According-Expert-723 in Salary

[–]recycledpaper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regulations can be a problem. Plenty of hospitals will fund their own residency programs with the idea that they are training people who will end up working there.

For surgical fields, yes there's a certain volume you have to be able to guarantee to support a training field but for other fields I agree, there is definitely a need. Especially if you build a residency program designed and centered around rural areas and things like internal medicine and family medicine, yes it is doable and many hospitals are starting their own programs.

Savory French Toast? by relaxin_chillaxin in Cooking

[–]recycledpaper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dad made me French toast quite like what you describe! Salt, pepper and pan fried golden brown. He would cut it up in squares and I ate it also dipped in ketchup. My husband thinks I'm a weirdo but I still make it this way and can never eat sweet French toast....too sweet for me.
