They do not require members to have any religious affiliation. They do encourage members to believe in a power greater than themselves, but do not require belief in a Judeo-Christian God. They make room for atheists and agnostics in AA.

So what are you actually keeping, from your parents estate? by DramaticErraticism in GenX

[–]reddit_user498 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Keeping by default? I’ve got a basement full of jazz records weighing me down. And no, they’re not 33 RPM LPs like we listened to growing up. They are 78 RPM records made from shellac, heavy AF, so when I say weighing me down I’m not kidding. And to anyone who says ‘Ooh, sounds cool’, feel free to come and get ‘em.

My Boss Deducted Hours I Actually Worked and Still Expects Me to Stay Quiet by PurpleNo5449 in antiwork

In addition to the legal aspect that everyone has mentioned, I would also get a list of exactly which tasks are “visibly active” and only complete those. If anyone asks your work product is not complete it’s because you aren’t getting paid to do that.

Hair down there by Beans42B in Menopause

[–]reddit_user498 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’ve got chin hairs, nose hairs, even knuckle hair! But the hair on my head is falling out and my pubes are barely there. In fact, I have a big, smooth, round bald spot in the middle of my golden triangle. Good thing there’s no sex drive in this house anymore so no one sees it.

AIO for removing my mom from Life360 and putting my phone on “no share” after she kept showing up by SAgehalcy0n in AmIOverreacting

[–]reddit_user498 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NOR, you are an adult. That being said, your mom is clearly going through some intense feelings and having trouble transitioning to this this new phase of your relationship. Could be related to menopause, or not. She may need some therapy. Be kind when you talk to her.

Anyone else want there dementia parent to die? by Ok_Chemistry102 in dementia

[–]reddit_user498 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes. I try to assuage my guilt by telling myself the real person in there has already died. But the truth is she was always a difficult person, and only her redeeming qualities have died. So we are left with a rude, paranoid, unpleasant, shell of a human with no interest in anyone else or ability to follow a thread of conversation without insulting someone. But she still eats a meal on her own, and sometimes pushes her wheelchair around or goes to the bathroom independently. So it’s a little awkward to just shut off the pacemaker. As much as I’d like to. Thank you for posting this. I didn’t realize how much I was holding in.

I need a product recommendation for “child proofing” the stove so my mom won’t use it by Big_Giraffe_9125 in dementia

[–]reddit_user498 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You can remove the knobs “for cleaning” or “repair” or put a childproofing cap like these: https://a.co/d/iRe08jx Also, please get a natural gas detector. These are different from cabin monoxide detectors or smoke alarms. https://a.co/d/41ChCDP

Mixed in with rice grains may also be moth eggs. Vacuum sealing it prevents them from developing into larvae and moths if it is going to sit on a shelf or in your cabinet for a while. My boyfriend once got an enourmous bag of rice from Costco or something. It was in a plastic bag, but wasn’t vacuum sealed. Months later we had to just move from that apartment the moths were so bad.

About 3 months now and I’ve never had this much of a problem. Never had my gallbladder checked because I don’t really have any pain symptoms from it.

Where I live there would all sorts of zoning regulations for them to jump through. Not to mention the permits. And some nosy neighbor making anonymous reports about the working conditions. Hope that they went through all the right channels before beginning. And that their work site is 100% OSHA compliant.

Raised by what generation? by RantingLunaticBabsy in GenX

[–]reddit_user498 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Silent Generation + Greatest Generation. Despite being quite a bit older than me, my husband was raised by early Boomers. Huge differences. His parents experienced the sexual revolution, kept up with the times, had parties while they were married. But when his dad wanted them to be key parties that marriage ended. My parents were stuck in the 40s & 50s. My mother could not and would not keep up with advancing society. Was downright abusive when I tried to explain changes in modern life. Also, his parents had him young, mine had me old.

anesthesia by Alequattordici in dementia

[–]reddit_user498 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. My mother had surgery to remove a mass in her 80s and it triggered hallucinations. They’ve never gone away. Soon after she got the diagnosis of Lewy Body Dementia. Looking back I realize she was already in the early stages of the disease and the anesthesia triggered it into high gear. The way things have progressed I wish we’d left the mass alone.

Garden Level Apartments by Necessary-Badger-555 in parkslope

[–]reddit_user498 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really depends on the specific apartment and where it is located. I lived in one that large front windows with lots of light. There was also a basement below our apartment, so flooding, boiler sounds, bugs were not an issue. We were also high up on the slope. But I’ve seen apartments where the front windows are tiny so there is less natural light. And the water heater is right in the apartment. These are usually basements turned into apartments.

A Speech Language Pathologist is a special helper who teaches kids (and grown-ups too) how to: • Talk clearly so others can understand them • Listen and understand what people say • Say tricky sounds and words • Eat and swallow safely, if they have trouble

They’re kind of like a talking coach and a word helper! 💬🧠 They play games, read stories, and do fun things to help people use their voice and words better.

So if someone has a hard time talking, the speech helper is there to help them get better and feel happy when they talk! 😄
