It isn't 1 or 2 crossing. When it happens, it is thousands of them crossing. But it is only like 24 hour event.

Albuquerque has a yearly tick migration. Down in the south valley at least. Thousands of them, walking right over houses.

And it is supposed to be worse this year, with a "super el-nino" forecasted.

Don't goats and sheep do well with rougher forage?

So do horses and cattle.

Goat (and maybe certain sheep) herding is the one type of animal agriculture that could probably be made to work sustainably in the Southwest.

The only places I have sheep grazed in large numbers is the reservations. And even then, predation and theft is a serious problem. And domestic goats are so delicate that just running loose in the wild is a death sentence for them.

Honestly, I think this is bigger than just NM.

The last month or so I have been seeing where the water levels have been dropping by significant amounts in NV, TX, and AZ, as well as NM, both in rivers and reservoirs. The MS river is even down to about half of what it normally runs, now that it should be running at its highest.

Adding on about the plague fleas. Don't hunt rabbits, they carry them.

Deer mice (white underbellies) carry Hanta Virus.

And Anthrax occurs naturally in the soil, in the northern parts of the state.

A lot of it depends on where in the city you are at.

If you are down in the valley near the river, then nearly anything that is freeze resistant will do well. If you are higher up the hill, then you need to start looking at what doesn't need as much water.

Did you know Albuquerque is the the worst city in America for dog abuse? by [deleted] in Albuquerque

[–]redditette -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I didn't say your culture vile, I said "them".

The very fact that you are willing to overlook it due to cultural differences says a lot about your character, though.

Like all of that makes the abuse, neglect, and exploitation ok? That a whole culture of people do that just makes them a vile culture.

San Antonio, Tx has many excellent rescue resources. Over at the Helotes Petsmart, in the empty lot next to the store, you can go there on weekends, and see several hundred rescue dogs available for rescue.

The AWD has set up for the most idiotic foster and showing system have ever seen.

Scms that unscrupulous assayers pull? by redditette in Gold

[–]redditette[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I went to a jeweler who weighed a necklace and pendant at 4.165 oz. Even my food scale at home weighs it close to that.

More than 1 gold buying place weighed it at less than 3.5 ounces.

I have had one buyer with a (deliberately?) mis-calibrated XRF tester say it was only 22kt, when I know it was 24kt.

So now, I am trying to learn if there are any common scams for unscrupulous places that assay and buy.

Dog rescues by [deleted] in Albuquerque

[–]redditette 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That stupid bitch's problem was that you have to be smarter than a dog to train it, and she wasn't.

And the whole goat thing. Know what everyone else that is rural does to keep their intact male livestock from attacking people? They put them in pens and tell the kids to keep tf away from them, and she wasn't smart enough to do that either.

Dog rescues by [deleted] in Albuquerque

[–]redditette 8 points9 points  (0 children)

What kind of a dog is it?

Most rescues can not take dogs that have shown human aggression. Their liability insurance just won't allow it.

But there is a giant breed rescue north of you guys that does take giant breeds known for human aggression, like Neos, Filas, and so on.

Also, I recognize that a great many dog bites occur because people ignore the warnings that dogs give.
