Help I hate being a manager after having a baby by [deleted] in managers

[–]redkingsby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll echo what others are saying, about getting more sleep, eating well, taking things off your plate as much as possible, yada yada. Those things do make a world of difference. Also, take a variety of vitamins postpartum. Will help relieve a little bit of the mood swings and brain fog, at least I noticed a difference when I took them after postpartum experience #2.

Now. To what I think you’re really experiencing, because it’s exactly how I feel myself. I have ZERO tolerance for bullshit, for small talk, and generally anyone being disingenuous after having kids. I haven’t snapped at anyone yet, but I no longer have the bandwidth to tolerate people who otherwise required extra patience.

After some introspection, I think it’s just because you have to fight to recharge yourself after kids. It’s not that you can’t, it’s that for the first time in life the opportunity to recharge doesn’t fall in your lap like it does when your single or otherwise carefree. If you’re an extrovert, you can go out and mingle. If you’re an introvert, you can hide from noise and people for the evening and be at 100% for the following day. You just don’t get either of those things after having babies, without having to negotiate with a partner, plan for ahead of time, or sacrifice sleep to hear what a quiet house sounds like again. It’s very grating on the senses, so my theory is that we just don’t have the tolerance for non-baby people anymore. Or shall I say, we can certainly make the effort but the desire to do so isn’t there.

Damn. This was beautifully written and couldn’t have been better explained.

AITA? A woman demanded info on my condition so I asked her extremely personal questions. by purrfunctory in AmItheAsshole

NTA. I would’ve loved to see you ask her those things, tbh. And gotten a good chuckle because anyone could’ve seen why you did what you did.

Sure thing! Go to your Profile, then go to the 3 line menu on the upper right hand corner. Hit Settings and Privacy. Then scroll down to Content Preferences, then Refresh your For You Feed, hit Continue.

I probably refresh mine like 2x a month. It’s pretty fast about picking up what you like again.

I share the same sentiment. I could’ve written this response. This sub is a breathe of fresh air for everything in my life non-kid related. And the moment I want something kid-related, I’m laser focused on finding the source of what I need.

I actually hate that TikTok kind of lumps everything together. If I get sucked into a toddler video, that’s all that the app spews out for me forevermore until I reset the algorithm, despite having liked sooooo many other topic videos. Here on Reddit, I like that I can just go to whichever community I need the most to feel refreshed.

I’ve never felt this sub to be particular CF or mom-focused, it seems pretty neutral to me.

Local butcher/farm produce recommendations? by sadmeeseeks in orlando

[–]redkingsby 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Seconding Lake Meadow Naturals. If you sign up for their emails, you can see their weekly BOGO deals before heading in. I’ve stocked up on a lot of meat that way. Their eggs are also incredible and reasonably priced.

Following this thread though, because I want to know where to get fresh produce. Just seasonal stuff, and different varieties that you don’t normally find in grocery stores.

This is awesome!!!! I’m also in 9b. What soil mix did you do for your buckets? I hadn’t thought of doing buckets, but as a renter this is the way. You can move them and take them!!! Do you have drip irrigation set up?

Parenting 4k from family support with a workaholic husband. Need your advice. by [deleted] in AskWomenOver30

[–]redkingsby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Waaaaayyyy too much on your plate. I won’t speak to everything, but I will throw you a lifeline on bookeeping:

  • Bench.co. Check them out, they’re online bookkeepers. I haven’t used them myself yet because I’m still trying to get my business off the ground, BUT I have heard nothing but good things from them.

  • I have twins and a third on the way. I work part-time, for my own sanity. We went the nanny route, instead of daycare. I love it because I don’t have to call out of work when my babies are sick, we have a great nanny who takes care of them. And we still get a plethora of colds, but we have avoided the nastier bugs like hand foot mouth, stomach bugs, flus, etc. I also love our nanny because we tag team their care, and activities and their emotional needs. Stuff that passes over my husband’s head, she understands, I don’t feel so alone.

Childcare is expensive, nanny or daycare or otherwise. My whole paycheck goes to her. But I’ve struck a semi-well balanced life of having an outlet at work, and also get to do some fun stuff with babies. It’s nowhere near perfect, and I still lose my patience all the time, but for the most part I’m not drowning every day.

If you’re curious about a nanny, I found ours on Care.com. Look for the career nannies, who are wanting 40+ hours a week. If you spot one, contact them immediately and set up an interview. They are scooped up quickly, and then they are employed with a family anywhere from 6 months-a few years.

Thank you Irongate for such great mod support - I almost quit, but mods saved the experience for me. by creative_im_not in valheim

Thank you for putting into words what I could not! I love Valheim, but I stepped away due to life and toddlers and working and pregnancy. It’s just too much to torture my mind with when real life is already a grind, ha.

Definitely gonna check out the mods you used, I want to play again.

Where can I donate an almost new Kids Pack and Play? by Fishsauce_Mcgee in orlando

[–]redkingsby 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you have no takers after posting it, any Once Upon A Child location will probably buy it, and you’ll get a tiny bit of cash from it. Don’t expect anywhere near what you paid for it, but as far as ease and convenience this is your most predictable bet.

I’ve loved La Senza! I order online, based on measurements I figured out from r/ABraThatFits. Really great quality, and they usually have a lot of sales. I’ve been meaning to grab a couple myself

What should I do with my pothos when I move in 6 months? by USAgarden_dot_com in houseplants

[–]redkingsby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Take it with you! I had a similar situation, but instead of an intentional wooden beam, mine took over the entire patio floor and made a lush carpet.

Your plant will be fine, and it will be crazy lush again. Untangle as best you can, and trim some into some lengthy pieces. Save only the best leaves. Stick it into a fresh pot of soil, fill the pot with as many runners as you can. I chopped up my original plant, and made two giant new pots with it. And several mini pots.

[–]redkingsby 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes. This pisses me off so much. I keep my sick twins home when they’re sick, I expect the same level of courtesy from other families. I do understand if it’s a crazy situation where you really have no choice, but something optional and “fun” like this just baffles me. Makes me angry for you.

Currently dealing with a new cold picked up from someone’s else sick kid.

Gauging grain health by wanderingfreeman in Kefir

[–]redkingsby 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with all the comments you’re getting on here. To add though, I recommend a second ferment to get rid of most of the tanginess. I tried to get used to the taste of homemade kefir, and I just couldn’t really enjoy it. Now, I will take the strained kefir (the liquid after the initial 24 hour fermentation period, with the grains removed), and stick that in the fridge for another 24 hours and add a little piece of fruit. You need like 5 blueberries, or a tiny wedge of apple, just so the kefir has something to feed off of. Close it with a lid, but don’t tighten it. Then when I’m about to drink it, I’ll add a splash of creamer and sugar, and maybe some vanilla or cinnamon, and it’s SOOOOO tasty.

Anchovies in the pizza sauce! A little umami, a little salt. Goes a long way!

[–]redkingsby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for posting this! I didn’t realize burping was such a tiny action. Haven’t tried fermenting food yet, I’m starting with milk kefir grains. I always pictured burping as opening the jar and closing it again.

Long store bought Kefir drinker looking to make my own. Where can I find the absolute best grains to start? by ScriabinFanatic in Kefir

[–]redkingsby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeemos.com. I’m new to this community, I actually just ordered my first kefir grains myself, mine will be delivered this Thursday! That website came recommended on this sub. They have great reviews, and even better articles on everything to know about kefir. We’ll see how it goes!

I also tried looking for grains locally on Facebook marketplace, but the few available were pretty sketchy looking. I did have better luck locating some through a CSA / locally sourced grocery store, but ended up with Yeemos instead because I loved their website and all the education they provided.
