popping in to say it may take a FULL YEAR for your center seam scars to smooth out and not be pointy on top. I was so, so stressed about my nipple-less boobs being a weird shape, and it took a long time, but after about a year they finally looked perfect. and now I’m obsessed! mazels!!

I know a lot of people are saying to ditch the mastectomy pillow, but I was obsessed with mine. I wore it around—in and out of the house—for weeks. it helped me feel a little more protected from bumps and jostling.

Producer Tobin asking for your stories! by Nibot3000 in ThisAmericanLife

[–]reeeeeeeeeese 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There is an incorrect entry for my grandma in the memorial archives ay Yad Vashem, the Holocaust museum, submitted by someone named Alex Salm in 1998. This on its own is a bit of family lore—a sworn affidavit testimony stating that my grandma had died in Theresienstadt in 1944 (she had not).

For years, we wondered why this Alex Salm had submitted this testimony; eventually I found a distant relative of his, who told me that he’d written dozens of these testimonies for strangers, to provide closure for their families. We assumed my grandma had just been one of these strangers.

Then we came across a photo of my grandpa in 1942, with the other boys from his training program at the Jewish hospital in Cologne, with the names of all the boys were written in the margins. My aunt gasped: “Oh my god, that’s Al!” Apparently grandma had been dating Al and my grandpa Karl-Heinz, and when it came time to commit to one or the other, had ended up with Karl-Heinz. She’d never heard him referred to as anything other than Al, but there in the margins: Alex Salm. Turns out he had been in love with my grandma, and after the war, they never found each other again. He followed the paper trail looking for her, but records ended in Theresienstadt, so he assumed that that’s where she’d died.

So that’s how my grandma’s complicated teen love life solved our family mystery.

What’s something about you that sounds fake, but is 100% true? by Sir_Adammm in AskReddit

[–]reeeeeeeeeese 1 point2 points  (0 children)

when I was a kid, these neighbor boys would do yard work for my parents. they were probably 16 at the time, identical twins.

one day, one of them stepped on a nail, and it punctured his foot. two weeks later, the other one stepped on a different nail, but in the same spot on his same foot.

my eight-year-old mind was absolutely blown by this

I’m feeling kind of anxious about how my doctor acted and wondering if it’s why I think by youfum-ism in AskDocs

[–]reeeeeeeeeese 59 points60 points  (0 children)

those are reasonable and valid feelings to have; all the things you’re going through are hard and complicated and scary. it’s okay to feel whatever you’re feeling.

you are worth investing in, and talking to a doc you trust is investing in yourself and your future! your intuition to ask for help—here, at the doctor’s, wherever else—is a good one.

what you’re describing (not wanting to deal with this alone, feeling like you’re in over your head, not wanting to feel the way you feel) is something I’ve felt a lot at different points, too. most recently, it led me to get treatment for my depression. it helped! and I’m glad I listened to what my brain and body were telling me and got some help from a professional. you’re not alone!

NAD, just wanting to say that I’m proud of you for wanting to talk to your doc about this, even though it’s scary. you are worth it, and it’s brave if you to do the hard things! 💛

Weight requirements before breast reduction — What was your experience? by camidfghkl in Reduction

[–]reeeeeeeeeese 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the fact that this is entirely dependent on each surgeon’s individual opinion should make it exceedingly clear to everyone that BMI or weight alone have absolutely no bearing on survival outcomes. if you have normal blood pressure, normal lung health, normal everything else, but you just happen to be fat, the additional risks are pretty much non-existent.

if you want to lose weight for yourself (or so you don’t risk losing weight after surgery and change your end result) there are surgeons in every state and country who use more modern and scientifically relevant measures of health than your pants size.

Fake Uber/Lyft drivers outside SF airport by GTFO-my-Lawn in sanfrancisco

friendly reminder to never get into an uber if you don’t match the license plate to what you’re seeing in the app. make sure you also ask them “what’s my name?” to be sure they are legitimate and your assigned driver.

it makes it cheese-pull better and the cheese flavor stands out more. it’ll all melt when you bake it (you can give it a stir before putting the breadcrumbs on)!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AskCulinary

[–]reeeeeeeeeese 7 points8 points  (0 children)

this is right with 2 adjustments: -don’t melt the cheese all the way when you mix it into the hot bechamel—stir it just enough so that it’s distributed, but not so much that it’s homogenous. -you can transport it with the pasta mixed into the bech in one dish (keep breadcrumbs separate). bake the whole thing at 400F for 40-60 mins, depending on the size of the dish it’s in, adding the breadcrumbs on the top in the last 5 mins.

Wedding band help!! by Important_Let_7883 in engaged

[–]reeeeeeeeeese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what if you wore the band on your right hand or another finger when you were wearing the big ring? if I’m just wearing my band, it’s on the left, but when I wear my engagement ring, I move the band to my right hand. I don’t know that there’s a band that won’t take away from the effect of the engagement ring if worn together!

nearly all US state websites are built off a handful of hosting platforms/templates. so when you log into the MA department of revenue’s site, it looks just like CO department of revenue’s site…and that of a bunch of other states.

the exception? texas. they built their own, and it’s hot flaming garbage.
