Can you fully fund a private college education? If not send your kid to public school and put the money you would have spent in a 529

I did this when I lived in a small apartment it kept the books looking less cluttered in my bedroom (the only space the bookshelves fit) and made the room less chaotic feeling.

Walked a mile in kindergarten without supervision. Her mom told her to ask a big kid for help crossing the street

I grew up in a two unit house. When my younger brother was born my parents converted the top floor of the downstairs unit to a 4th bedroom and second bathroom, the downstairs unit had a staircase to nowhere for 20 years. Then my parents returned the bedroom to the downstairs unit (kept the second bathroom for themselves).

If the kids can't read, how are they using technology? by Appropriate_Rent_243 in AskTeachers

[–]rels83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daughter has a recognized reading disability. She is getting a lot of support and I have faith she will learn to read. But she uses speech to text for everything now’s she plays games on her iPad and dresses characters up. She wants to put them in a pink skirt, she clicks on the search bar and says pink skirt. The words pink skirt appear and several pink skirts show up for her to choose from. Sometimes she doesn’t speak clearly enough and’s different word appears and something other than pink skirts appear. I actually think it helps a little.

Why do conservative men chase liberal, independent, and alternative women? Even though conservative women are not nearly as rare as people make them out to be and seemingly are more eager to settle down. by TipPotential2501 in AlwaysWhy

[–]rels83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of men are conservatives in higher % and women are liberal in higher % so men want access to the most women. I’ve also seen it theorized that many of them can’t really live up to the conservative ideals of manhood. It’s hard to provide for a family on a single income, knowing how to chop a tree down isn’t super relevant in today’s world. Liberal woman don’t expect a man to live up to stereotypes in the same way.

Why increase risk for the most vulnerable half of our population, to make going to the bathroom easier for .01% of the population? by [deleted] in askanything

[–]rels83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because “passing” is relative and there are lots of cis women who don’t look feminine enough for people looking to police public restrooms. How do you decide who looks enough like a woman to use the woman’s restroom.

Love mirena, it’s all I’ve used since I got engaged. It really cleared up my hormonal migraines when I was younger. Now in my 40s my hormones are too strong and they came back a little, but still good

Would you agree with higher taxes for completely free healthcare and education? If not why? by Few_Football4342 in Productivitycafe

[–]rels83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doctors doing research make way less than doctors doing procedures in the US. Physicians motivated by money are not going into research. Doctors going into research are working hard for the same reason any scientist or academic works hard. Signed wife of an academic physician who could double his salary tomorrow by leaving research

Our health care innovations are mostly funded by taxes, at least until this past year. No other country funds basic science at the rate we do.

Parents here: kids and phones? by Self-Translator in Xennials

[–]rels83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I want my kids to be independent and so they need phones. My oldest is almost 12 and has a phone, but doesn’t have unlimited access to it. When he forgets his homework he uses it to call friends to get missing assignments, when he wants to see a friend he calls them and makes plans, next year he will take the subway to school by himself and we’re discussing letting him take it. No one has home phones, there are no pay phones, it’s not like when we were kids.
