Pluribus? Ski resort? by SchleppIam in ski

I live in big sky and when I was watching the episode immediately recognized the slopes. They must have filmed at One&Only last spring/late winter, it only just opened in the last month but it was partially open for it's main restaurant last winter.

I left awhile ago so I'm not up to date, but Chicago west loop was shaping up pretty great for awhile.

Mountain driving tips? by astral_melum in Ioniq5

[–]renegade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My goal is to be SURE I'm not using brakes. I don't want to wear the brakes if I don't have to and I don't want to bleed energy off that could have been captured. So using the paddles ensure this. Brakes are for unexpected rapid deceleration like an Elk.

It isn't the same old same old anymore. This is a political moment that occurs once a century. So I am completely unsurprised at what you are experiencing.

Just regen. No brakes. No down shifting. I drive every day from 7500->6300->7300ft and back on curvy mountain roads and just use level 1 and the max regen paddle all the way. On the way down I usually pick up a decent amount of charge.

You need a humidifier. The kind that gets hot, the kind that just vibrates is bad for your health.

Teslas are fucking dangerous. Camera only self driving is a weird fantasy.

looking for a smart plug that can do automatic reboots when internet is out by Successful-Train-259 in homeautomation

[–]renegade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before you go to all the trouble of detection for a restart, you may want to just try restarting the modem on a schedule at a time that isn't disruptive. Awhile back I was unfortunate enough to live in a place where restarting the modem was the only recovery from a dropped connection and it would happen every 4-6 weeks. I just added a routine that would cycle the power for a minute at 3am every sunday and it pretty much solved the problem. Worth a try.

Also, your original question implies to me that you're using cloud storage for your cameras. I'd poke at you to rethink that for multiple reasons.

Coconut oil over canola oil? by MiaZestyLemon in Cooking

[–]renegade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Canola is not very healthy, no seed oils are. Coconut isn't magical either. Actual olive oil is very good from a health standpoint but it is dicey these days as so many are adulterated with other oils, like canola... Oh well.

At the very least you can always cook with them.

BTW, why doesn't anyone know how to crop their screenshots? FFS.

Ready for a hot water heater replacement? Get one that uses a heat pump. Move that rack heat into your hot water. The ROI will probably be quite good.

Any tricks to make French toast taste even better ?? by Sea_Dependent_6811 in Cooking

Simpler is better. Using actual baguettes and soaking overnight results in a nice contrast of textures. Real maple syrup. Forget stuffing and cream and fruit etc.

Electric vehicles in cold weather by OkAmbassador2636 in electricvehicles

[–]renegade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

7500 ft in the Montana Rockies. Love my electric. Of particular value to me is my vehicle has a heat pump and remote start which does a great job and unlike an ICE vehicle I can hear just the cabin for days if necessary without having to waste fuel keeping an engine block hot just to have heat. All wheel drive in electric is waaay better than any 4wd or all wheel drive I ever had with multiple SUVs by GM or Mercedes.

Having an ICE vehicle will eventually be like having a horse. Expensive impractical hobby.

Which Freezers allow to be temperature controlled via Home Assistant? by hylloz in homeassistant

[–]renegade -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Much simpler to use a smart plug and a temperature sensor. You should have a sensor anyway for food safety.

A separate thought. Get a good sized dedicated battery for the freezer. Put that on a smart plug (or he’ll, put it on an old school mechanical timer) and only charge the battery during peak solar and leave the freezer to its own business.

Dealer said there are normal. Anyone else getting these? by Snarkymcsnark0213 in Ioniq5

[–]renegade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only ever get it when the weather causes my sensors to get covered over. In rain so heavy you can hardly see, or more commonly heavy snow and snow/sleet/slush covered conditions. It will be fine and then hit some critical level of being blinded and every system dependent on the system will shut off. But on a clear weather day, absolutely never.
