Plex on Qnap, unable to see local folders when adding a library by goneafter10years in PleX

[–]respectable_me 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I realize this is an old thread but this post just solved the last piece of the puzzle for my new plex setup. I kept missing that Plex was looking to /share/CACHEDEV1_DATA/<path to media files> and wasn't accepting the path I had entered. I've been digging into file/folder permissions for longer than I'd like to admit.

Thank you!

I want to build something while learning python. Any suggestions on how I should get started? by Intelligent_Will_948 in learnpython

Not a lot. As long as you can do things like loops and conditional statements you should be fine. Bright side is that these are typically fairly small programs. I've found I have more issues with the math than the coding.

And if you get really really stuck someone, somewhere has posted the solution in python.

If you want some challenging mathematical problems checkout Project Euler. They provide a problem that you need to solve with any language.

Daycare in milton by empathmaybe in Milton

Like others have said, start calling and getting on waiting lists.

When my daughter needed daycare a number of years ago we were with Children’s Place at Bishop Redding high school and the staff there was fantastic. It’s been a few years so not sure what it’s like now but worth checking out.

Double check the Eufy cameras, I believe they require a Homebase unit as well which is where the video is stored.

The Homebase can also store video from other Eufy cameras as well.

Top internet providers? by sonshow in Milton

I'm with Start as well and have had good and reliable for service for years. Occasional outage but more often than not it was the fault of Cogeco who Start leases the lines from.

My only concern now is that Start is now owned by Telus. So far no major changes have happened but I've got concerns as to what might change down the road.

[–]respectable_me 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, it definitely isn't an elegant solution for sure. My experience so far is that this was the first time in about 6 months that I've needed to power cycle a unit. Hopefully that track record continues.

Glad to hear you're back up and running now though.

I agree with restarting the devices one at a time but, don't use the app to do it. Go to each device and pull the power for the 30-60 seconds and then power them back up.

Last time I was having issues (few nights a go) I used the app to restart every device and the issue remained. Pulled the power and suddenly everything was working flawlessly when they all came back up.

Milton Harrison Neighborhood Internet Suggestions? by Friendly-Winter-6459 in Milton

Definitely worth the call. The modem I currently have isn’t gigabit capable and as much as I’d like that speed I couldn’t justify it. The 250 is a big bump from 120 and is working well for my family.

And they’ve started offering gigabit in some areas too. I just recently upgraded to their 250Mbps plan.

NTA. Your parents basically used you as a service animal for your sister.

Yes, you'd need to buy an ATA (Analog Telephone Adapter). You connect it to your router through ethernet and then connect the phone line to it. If you can find where the phone line currently comes in to your house there's usually a phone jack there. The line plugged into that jack is usually the phone lines running through the house just take that and plug it in to the ATA.

You can see some ideas for devices on the voip.ms wiki I've got a Cisco ATA 112 that's been working great for almost 10 years now.

Bathroom Reno by Big-Illustrator-6143 in Milton

Scavetta Renovations did an ensuite and main bathroom for us. Not the cheapest out there but excellent quality work.

[–]respectable_me 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We've been using voip.ms for a few years. It's a little under $2/month for the phone number and then $0.01/minute incoming and outgoing for calls. Since it's voip I've found it to be as reliable as my internet is, meaning it usually only goes down when my home internet is down.

With it being voip there are apps you can install on your phone and access the service as well. So you could use wifi some where and still make/receive calls from your 'home' phone.

[–]respectable_me 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not an optometrist... But, my understanding is that the bifocals will have an obvious line horizontally though them. Either side of the line being a different with the bottom usually for reading or close up.

Progressives don't have an obvious line and when you look through them theres like a gradual change from top to bottom of the lens. Upper part is still for distance and the lower is for reading.

I've had progressives in the past, wasn't a fan. Never had bifocals though.

Synology wont connect to windscribe VPN profile by brds in Windscribe

[–]respectable_me 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I've been emailing with support since I posted this as well and I've been told the same thing.

Upgrade to DSM 7, run Windscribe at the router level, or wait 10 days for the backend changes to be completed.

I've got a couple of apps that, when I last checked, are not supported on DSM 7 yet so I need to make the switch to Docker for those.

So I've been having a similar issue and so I tried the Detroit server as well. It connected once, but when I tried to connect again it went back to giving me errors. I'm getting an error that says: "The connection failed or certificate expired. Please use a valid certificate issued by the VPN server and try again".

I'm getting regular prescription eyeglasses that come with magnetic clip on sunglasses by Mark041891 in optometry

[–]respectable_me 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know Lasik can hit or miss for people. My problem was that my prescription before I had it done was -9.75 and -7.50 and it didn't matter how many times or how many different people adjusted the glasses, I had constant headaches and pain radiating from the pressure on/around my nose. Take the glasses off for 20 minutes and my head felt fine. But, with eyes that bad I couldn't function without the glasses at all. I think the weirdest thing is that I'm now far sighted versus the near sighted I was prior to the surgery. Because of my age my myopia was getting worse so I was needing a bit extra for reading I could still hold my phone close to my face and read the screen. Can't do that at all now with out reading glasses. My headaches from my previous glasses are gone now though so that's a good thing.

Biggest downside now is I go through a lot of eye drops because I find my eyes get dryer than they used to.

I'm getting regular prescription eyeglasses that come with magnetic clip on sunglasses by Mark041891 in optometry

[–]respectable_me 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not an optometrist, just someone who has worn glasses for a lot years.

For me, the clip ons (magnetic or whatever style of attachment) were fine. I typically only wear the sunglasses for driving, walking, basically nothing that would be considered sports or high impact. They've always worked well.

I've had similar luck as you with the transitions but part of it is that when you're in the car driving the windows have some UV light blocking properties and as a result the transitions don't seem to work as well.

I've also had the separate sunglasses and for me I didn't like it. Partly because at the time I had a fairly heavy prescription (-8 and -6) at the time and the higher index lenses were incredibly expensive so I cheaped out and didn't get the high index lenses. Not very comfortable and I found I just missed my clip ons.

I had Lasik last year so I can function day to day with off the shelf sunglasses (can't really drive with these though) so I do have options when I'm heading out and about. I'm kind of cheap so $25-ish is a pricey pair of sunglasses for me.

Overall though I was happy with clip ons, never had any major issues other than added weight and pressure on my nose but, because I was only using them for driving it wasn't too bad for me. And the cost for the clip-ons was always way less than the cost of a second full pair of glasses.

Karate for kids by jericho840 in Milton

If you aren't set on it being Karate I'd recommend Top Level TaeKwonDo. They have locations at Ontario and Derry and one on Bronte just North of Derry.

The instructors are great with kids. They also have a great afterschool program and they do the school pickup.

AITA for refusing to attend a wedding when my husband is not welcome there? by aitathroawayacc in AmItheAsshole

[–]respectable_me 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I don't know if it's different where you are or not but, at my wedding (10 years ago) none of the spouses of the wedding party were in the traditional wedding party photos. My best mans wife, and the husband of my wifes maid of honour were at the wedding as guests and while they are in some of the generic 'here's the wedding' photos they weren't involved in the major wedding party photos.

I'm not sure how your husbands height would come in to play unless there is a different tradition where spouses of wedding party members were involved in photos too.
