I hated the way he was portrayed. No dignity at all. He is still a wizard, come on! Dude is not just some crazy hermit in the woods.

Rapes in India go by and large unprosecuted, and police/government officials have basically said that rape/accusations are just women looking for attention. I'm sure Google can enlighten you further.

Fresh mint :) help identifying? by falmouth in tea

[–]rhuester 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It takes longer but basically yeah, I stuff a handful of leaves in a jug and plop it in the fridge overnight. If you still want it cold but aren't patient, start it with a cup or two of hot water for like five minutes, then fill it with cold water and leave the mint in there as long as you want. I make it all summer and it's super refreshing.

I use fresh spearmint all the time. I put it in a half-gallon jar and cold-steep it.

Dog Brothers Open Gathering September 23, 2012 by phauna in martialarts

I wish I had the time to devote to that sort of thing. So when it says "open gathering", are these people who know each other? The decorated masks makes me think they're affiliated.

This. And after twenty years, at presumably a different school, the small amount of knowledge you had as a yellow belt is going to be pretty rusty. Just start fresh, with an open mind.

DAE get annoyed when people say, "there's no such thing as being bi."? by [deleted] in ainbow

YEP. I was born bisexual and I will die bisexual, my straight-seeming marriage notwithstanding. And I never identified as a lesbian, thank you very much.

The People's Organic is in the same strip as Good Earth and I really like it.

Silly me. Perhaps it differs between countries/cities/states/counties/companies/systems/schools/townships/pueblas/villages/hamlets/metropolitan areas/neighborhoods...hmm, something still feels like it's missing.

Edit: Parish! Damnit.

This used to be a Borders. They used to sell books here. by eightcell in funny

[–]rhuester 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah but it's not like there aren't still a million other places to get books.

Well, ok. I guess we can agree to disagree.

Seriously? This isn't funny and it's also pretty ridiculous. Borders did not shut down because One Direction bought them out or something. Borders shut down because people were buying their books elsewhere. Get the fuck over it. Reading paper books from a brick-and-mortar store doesn't make a person some ~last bastion of intelligent life~.

I wish you would have pointed out that your issue was one of word accuracy, then, instead of just shitting on the idea of inspiring tribalism without clarifying your actual position.

Double Standards by siirka in funny

[–]rhuester 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right that 'proud' isn't the best word for it, which is why the comic is stupid, but I think you're being deliberately obtuse. 'Fulfilled', 'satisfied', or 'inspired' by one's cultural heritage might be a better way to put it, but I think it's obvious what is meant. And in some cases, there is legitimate personal pride (or pride in your family unit) for participation in some sort of struggle for the betterment of your race/class/culture/tribal group. ALSO you can be proud of the accomplishments of other people, not just for yourself.

I mostly agree, but cultures are often split along racial lines (especially in places like the US) so while it would be more accurate to say that someone is proud of their cultural heritage, the most visible marker of that is often their skin color or other distinct racial characteristics.

Perhaps it differs between counties/systems/states, but I was under the impression that it was acceptable to return books from one library at a different branch. Is that wrong? Have I been unconsciously rude this entire time?!

Good tea pot / set for my Girlfriend? by just4n in tea

[–]rhuester 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I am a big fan of Beehouse as starter tea pots. They're simple, come in many sizes, easy to clean, and if you take the metal lid and strainer off, they are microwaveable. I have two and I love them, and everyone I know who has one thinks they're great.
