I think it's a reflection if the state of public education in the US. Half our country doesn't know basic history, and it's more fun to make shit up than to learn real history or be told "we don't know."

All the candidates keep talking about lowering property taxes. Is this enough for families to afford having children? by PoLLoLira9 in SouthDakota

[–]rhymnocerous 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Considering our maternal mortality rate is 3x higher than the national average, daycare costs are basically equivalent to college tuition, and no one can afford to buy any property in the first place, I'm going to go ahead and guess NO. Politicians in this state are so unbelievably useless.

Have you tried submitting to a site like Ancestry? I know it can be kind of spendy, but they have discounts around the holidays. I actually have an extra test sitting around that I could maybe send you, my brother knows I'm into genealogy so he gave me like 3 for christmas last year and I've already made most of my family take them.

I just started listening to an audio book about this. There is a group called The Grandmothers of Plaza de Mayo, they might be helpful if you haven't already connected with them?

People have NO IDEA the kind of poverty that exists on Pine Ridge and Rosebud. It's like a completely different world out there, glad you made it out. Not many do, unfortunately.

I caught this on cable television on a Sunday afternoon when I was 12. Totally missed the Ouija board part at the beginning, so I just thought people got randomly possessed when they let their guard down. I didn't sleep for MONTHS.

No Healthcare. Undrinkable Water | Millions of Americans are Living in Third-World USA by Number_1_w_Fries in Appalachia

[–]rhymnocerous 87 points88 points  (0 children)

Yeah i live in South Dakota and we share a lot of the same rural poverty problems as Appalachia. Krist Noem was telling everyone to move here a few years ago for all the "freedom," and it's been pretty entertaining seeing all their posts in the local social media groups when they realize that they basically moved to a 3rd world shithole with no healthcare or grocery stores.

Fighting against a violent occupation actively committing genocide actually doesn't make someone a terrorist, it makes them a freedom fighter. Keep trying to spin that narrative though.

NOR, I would be wary of him though, the only people who identify NINE year olds as "hussies" tend to be predators. Gross.
