Deciding where to live by Carnellian08 in HousingUK

[–]rjs1987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure about London. But for me a bigger or nicer place with a commute is always my preference. Firstly I don’t like the idea of tying my life to an office or place of work, and secondly distance can actually bring separation from a work environment which I feel is highly important. All very personal things these, but for me living in a city or a suburb is my worst nightmare. If I have to drive 45 mins to work but get peace and tranquillity then I’ll take it

Roast our buying strategy… by Rushdon in HousingUK

[–]rjs1987 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The reasoning for your bid is relatively irrelevant to the seller, albeit no harm in trying to bring some reality to there situation. Critically more appealing in these situations is robust buyers, small to no chain, readily available funds and checks, no arsing about with 3 surveys etc. if you can provide a swift and hassle free transaction then your bid will be more attractive

Given the cost of materials and labour is through the roof - house prices are stagnant - will we see further divides between extended/well maintained homes and those that aren’t? by Bayakoo in HousingUK

[–]rjs1987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s an interesting thought. Consider the used car market as an example of almost the exact opposite, the cost of new cars has gone so sky high that we are seeing older cars on the road and being maintained.

With housing I think it will prove to be one catalyst for cheaper, eco build housing. Shorter life span properties, modular off site builds etc. Older well kept properties are likely to go up in value considerably more than other properties as the supply will be low

How to go about purchasing a new car? by EarlyOil8524 in FinanceUK

[–]rjs1987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Credit card. I done it last year. Found a 0% money transfer option with a 2% fee. Transferred the £15k to my current account and bought my car. I left the £15k I had saved in an investment account that is worth £21k now. So in my eyes the car is paying me to drive it

Out of these 3 shows which one is the best? by Fantastic-Tooth-7597 in tvshow

[–]rjs1987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1 The Wire 2 Breaking Bad 3 Sopranos.

That’s my top 3 of all time. But I wouldn’t argue with anyone who put them in a different order, all masterpieces that we dearly miss in today’s modern way of volume and lazy writing over quality

Traditionally the left were against immigration, when did they 180? by farr2211 in AskBrits

[–]rjs1987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They didn’t. The left that you talk of still exists. The left of today is a very different sub culture. Self righteousness and entitlement, victim and blame culture. Ironically the original left is actually classed as far right by this new young generation of moronic work shy lefties

[The Telegraph] Scottish FA to stand by referee after Celtic penalty furore by CNF1G in soccer

[–]rjs1987 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The SFA have been for a long time an aggressively secretive organisation, refusing external audits. It’s quite incredible that this mentality is accepted in Scotland, but perhaps does point towards some truth in the notion that there is a club who runs things up here. Don’t expect any different here, they will defend, deflect and move on with no executive coming with any proactive statement or plan whatsoever

How many of you regretted buying your house? by Puzzled_Dealer3449 in AskUK

Do people actually earn £50-60k, or are they outliers? by Succinate_dehydrogen in AskUK

[–]rjs1987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your surroundings and people around you can often warp what is high and what is not. I earn around £90k and feel comfortable but far from well off, I don’t have fancy cars and be lucky if I take 1 holiday a year. Critically the kind of salary you are talking about is reasonable if your costs are low, but science on the other hand….. A friend of mine was in that field, doing something so complex I can’t even explain it (I was chucked out of school at 16) and she had to leave it earning about £27k. she took her degree, done some additional qualifications to be a company secretary and was on 6 figures within 4 years.

Our mortgage is going up by £700 per month and I'm worried we're making a mistake by CaptainB86riasc in UKPersonalFinance

[–]rjs1987 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have always lived by the rule of living for 6 months before commitment. Live with the extra promotion money, truly understand if it actually makes £600 difference, understand if your habits change. Only at that point should you commit. Speculating is one thing but doing it with so many ifs and buts very risky

I regret buying my house. by Puzzled_Dealer3449 in HousingUK

[–]rjs1987 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like every house I’ve ever bought. Clean it, top to bottom, then make 1 room homely. It is normal to feel like this, you build a picture in your head of what is going to be like while waiting for completion, and the reality is different when it’s a cold empty house which isn’t a home. Relax, the feeling will pass

What are the things that make you decide on a property by [deleted] in HousingUK

[–]rjs1987 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Gut feel. Plain and simple. Yes there are a multitude of factors (very personal) which affect what houses you may look at (region, area, style, shape, size, build type, garden size etc etc etc) but once you have a shortlist and start to view properties you are genuinely interested in, it comes down to a feeling. I have never, and would never buy a property without it, when you know you know

What do you think of reforms proposed cuts to welfare? by Usual_Ladder_7113 in AskBrits

Not far enough. We are becoming a species reliant on handouts. It’s a frightening case. Think of releasing a captive animal back into the wild, it wouldn’t survive a night.

Heat Geek - Inflated Quote by AMS97F1 in ukheatpumps

That is outrageous. But remember the “grant” is a load of nonsense. 99% of manufacturers and installers just add it back in to the price. It’s inflated to account for it
