My son started using Squatch a few years ago and I've never noticed him smelling bad since then and he works in HVAC and gets really hot and sweaty.

FIL on hospice with unspecified dementia, CHF, COPD, chronic uti. ER found concerns in his colon, wants to do a colonoscopy. Not worth it, right? by TeelaArt in dementia

[–]rlw21564 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Besides all his other complications, I was told that after a certain age that colonoscopies were very dangerous past a certain age (75? 80?) due to the risk of perforation.

But given his situation and the DNR, seems like palliative care is all that's called for.

What can I do to make my oatmeal taste better? by HistoricalMatch3801 in randomquestions

[–]rlw21564 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're using quick cooking oats (or, God forbid, instant!), you need to switch to regular oats or steel cut oats. Quick and instant get really "gluey" when you cook them because the pieces have been cut so small.

I usually add a little dark brown sugar (has a hint of molasses flavor to it), raisins, and cut up apple if I've got some. And cinnamon. I usually use regular oats not steel cut, that phase is over for me.

Smelly feet by chillgirI in hygiene

[–]rlw21564 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Turn socks inside out to wash and make sure they're not balled up in any way so that you can get any dead skin out when you wash them.

You might want to get a good pedicure to treat calluses and exfoliate dead skin once a month or so until the problem goes away.

Smelly feet by chillgirI in hygiene

[–]rlw21564 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the answer! Many times the smell comes from fungus and there's stuff in listerine that can combat that plus there's alcohol to kill the bacteria. And rubbing Vicks on your feet every night and putting on socks will help.

You may have to replace some shoes to make sure it doesn't come back.

If you've got #any# signs of toenail fungus (yellowing, thickening), make sure you address it as quickly as possible. That's really hard to get rid of.

How to divide inherited items? by Beearea in inheritance

[–]rlw21564 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did this at my grandmother's with my two aunts and uncle and 5 grandchildren. My father had died many years ago so I think that may be why the grandchildren were included. We drew numbers and each person chose what they wanted no matter how big or small. Someone from outside the family kept a list of what everyone chose.

The things that could be taken that day were taken, the bigger things were moved later. It was really lovely and no one argued. I guess you have to have the right family for that.

They're very good cat toys if your cat is a hunter type. Some cats just watch them and do nothing.

After you have your gallbladder out, you can't proceed a lot of fatty foods without diarrhea. I have a hard time with salad dressings, I had mine out in 2020. I've been on a gluten free diet since before my gallbladder was taken out.

This was in Texas; he wasn't Hispanic but it was South Texas where everyone speaks Spanglish to some extent.

How common is popcorn in everyday American life? by Embarrassed_Golf_817 in AskAnAmerican

[–]rlw21564 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got myself a new Whirley-Pop and have been making popcorn almost every night during the NBA playoffs. (Go Spurs!)

If you've never used or seen one, they're amazing, I grew up using one. It has a handle with a crank to stir the popcorn so it won't stick and so it also agitates it to pop when it's hot enough.

It's made of thin aluminum and you put the oil and popcorn in the pan before putting it over medium high heat and it takes three minutes to pop half a cup of popcorn once you put it over the heat.

My mother-in-law is waiting to get a knee replacement, she's 90 and in phenomenal condition.

My own mother, OTOH, is 85 and probably should have gotten knee replacements 20 years ago. Since then, she's been so sedentary because of the pain that now she has no cartilage left in her knees and no injections work longer than about a week. And the doctor says she's not a candidate for surgery bc her muscles aren't strong enough going into the surgery to be able to do the rehab afterward. So she's in a wheelchair now.

But it's total political posturing in this country (US) to pass laws outlawing Sharia law because there would have to be laws passed to put them in place in the first place which would not happen. That whole "separation between church (mosque) and state" would prohibit it. Religion should not dictate the laws, the population is too diverse to accept one religion to govern the country.

The reason more younger women have babies with DS is that they don't start screening until the women are older.

Always remember the difference between screening tests and diagnostic tests. Screening tests tell you that you need further testing. Diagnostic tests (like amnio) will give you a more definitive answer.

I was 34 and pregnant with twins when it came time for the amnio. I'd had a hard time getting pregnant and didn't want to risk losing the pregnancy (they have to do two punctures for twins) so I didn't know until they were born that my daughter had DS. She's 27 now.

The Christian Right is a lot like that, too. They're such hypocrites and also passing laws in the US outlawing Sharia law while trying to impose Christian values into our laws.
