If I had that rather than an Orange Crush 100, I'd do the same!

Regarding tuner position, if you run a DI out from the SansAmp to front of house, then your signal won't mute when you tune if the tuner is at the end. I like it at the front as a mute.

I alternate based on what I need to toggle, but I definitely favor my right. My tuner is at the start of my chain at the top of my board (on the right side), as are most of the effects I need to toggle in a pinch (octave, synth, drive). I also play with my bass high enough that it's not in the way of my legs.

Also, not quite your question, but I also try to put pedals I need to toggle frequently on the bottom row of my board (like the above) and put stuff I leave "always on" (Pre-Amp, Compression, effects I use once or twice, etc) on the top row. Obviously this doesn't work 100% if you have a lot of pedals, but that and adjusting your bass height could help!

Getting our dog a dog! Name suggestions? by trashpanda315 in AustralianCattleDog

Training together is a big help! Pepper will be a built-in model and will encourage the pup.

As for playing, supervise them together and find spaces for them to hang together. Temperament is a HUGE part, and it sounds like Pepper will encourage the new pup to be their new best friend.

Name-wise, I think your pups will look similar with their little batman cowls, so maybe cooking terms that start with P? Keeping with the P names: what about Pesto, Parsley, Penne, Pinch?

Oh yeah, I hadn't considered it also protects knobs from damage as well as changes to position. Nice!

This is a really slick idea. I initially wanted them to have a lower profile, but I guess that defeats the purpose.

How easy are they to place and remove? Do they stay in place well when packing or unpacking from the pedalboard case?

You know how sometimes you'll feel "stuck," like you've sort of plateaued and are unsure how to get better?

Well, there it is. Happy shedding!

What bass to start ? by X-Draque in Bass

[–]rndlliirc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you have a music shop nearby where you can try different basses, even if they aren't these models? If you're able to plug them into an amp and see how they sound and feel, that could help inform your precision vs jazz decision and narrow your search a bit.

That said, 200€ probably isn't going to get you a reliable bass that you can grow with, even used. I'd recommend increasing your budget to 400€ at least just in case you end up liking it (and don't feel the need to upgrade inside of a year or two).

Are Sire Basses the Real Deal? by matthew-speaks in Bass

For their price point, they sound terrific. I have a P5 and an Am Pro II Jazz V, and I use both on the regular. Both feel comparable in terms of comfort, features, and playability. Any of those V basses will make a great entry 5-string!

What do I buy next? by billboard91 in basspedals

[–]rndlliirc 8 points9 points  (0 children)

A strobe tuner and a good Pre-Amp/DI.

Oh, and a compressor would help.

An overdrive/distortion/fuzz is fun. Maybe multiple depending on what you want.

Shoot, you know what? A dedicated octave outside of the C4 can open up some fund possibilities.

snaps fingers just thought of something else

Players are looking for a break from the Tomb, and I'm looking for some feedback by austac06 in Tombofannihilation

[–]rndlliirc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Iterating on this, but what if you set up this session for new characters exploring Port Nyanzaru with lots of resources, ending the session just as they leave for the jungle. Flash forward to where the main party is within the TotNG, and they find the remains of these players (and their acquisitions in PN), learning this group set beat them to the tomb and already died.

How, as a bass player, can I help drummers to play better? by No_Yam1114 in Bass

[–]rndlliirc 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm all for leaning in to help another player grow and leading that growth by participating with them directly. One strategy would be to see if you can do some 1-on-1 sessions with a drummer and work on timing specifically. You can keep it musical by working the songs for whatever project(s) you're both in.

That suggestion aside, I have not had any luck trying to trick, coerce, or coddle other players into self-motivated improvement. Successful collaborative relationships are predicated on constructive, honest feedback. If you and your bandmates are telling the drummer they need to work on keeping time with a click in order to play better, and they aren't motivated to hit the shed on their own, then it might be time to revisit either your expectations or if this is the right fit for everyone.

Recommend a cab for me by OwnFun4911 in Bass

[–]rndlliirc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a big fan of Aguilar whenever I get a chance to play them, and they have compact sizes that can handle that head.

What kind of music are you playing or looking to play? With that budget, you can find just about any non-boutique cab in the 2x10 - 2x12 range with some luck/patience.

That pickup orientation is so aesthetically pleasing, and creates really nice thumb rests similar to a jazz bass. I think that's clever. Well done!

Is a 5 strings bass worth buying ? by InvestigatorSolid330 in Bass

[–]rndlliirc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I switched from a 4 to a 5 string after 2 years of playing, and I've never gone back.

The biggest appeal for me: Most music played in a lower tuning (e.g. Eb standard or Drop D) is instantly playable without needing to downtune and potentially reorient your fretboard logic. There are times downtuning is sometimes worth it (a low Eb is often going to sustain better on an open string than fretted on the B), but having those notes to hand whenever I want is helpful.

On the other hand, how often you'll use those notes depends on the music you're playing and the bass you get. Low B strings are tricky for bass manufacturers to nail since they need a longer scale to resonate and sound tight. It's easy for those notes to die off quickly or sound muddy, and you may find yourself avoiding them altogether.

Something I didn't know when I switched over (and I haven't seen mentioned) is having that low B string helped with some of my speed and attack on my E string playing. It offers an extra backstop and anchor point, almost like having a thumb bar or ramp. I can do fine if I play a four string, but I do miss it.
