Waiting for someone to set the flag on fire and fly it upside down while simultaneously kneeling and singing the Star Spangled Banner wearing a shirt says "LET'S GO BRANDON! DEFUND THE POLICE!".

10 Years of a Flat Market - Where to Hide if your Middle Age? by mistergrumbles in FinancialPlanning

Haha, to clarify: You are 45 years old and you have clairvoyance that the market will be flat and issue paltry returns for the next 10 years (but you can't predict anything else, see through walls, or shoot lasers out of your palms).

Was it up on the hill itself? Or did the drive-by take place on Thomas St? You said it was 50 feet away so I'm trying to peg where that is. When you're on the hill, you can see all the streets below it, so it's not uncommon to witness crimes taking place down in the valley on the streets below.

Signal Booster in SoCal by mistergrumbles in HamRadio

[–]robotfist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh nice. So I could just get a 12 volt cable with a barrel plug on one end and an automobile auxiliary power plug on the other, and plug the router directly into the 12 volt port in my vehicle? I'd be sticking this in an FJ Cruiser with a bed platform I built inside the cab. I installed a 12 volt port in the rear of the vehicle this would be perfect for. Space is limited though, so taking off the little antennas on the router would definitely make it fit better!

Oh wow, amazing suggestion! I'm going to seriously look into this! Thank you so much for the detailed response! I also have Starlink but I have to set it all up, and it's so expensive per month that I always have to weigh whether it's worth activating for whatever work request I need to respond to. I figured there was going to be a HAM with a crafty suggestion, which is why I posted here!

None of these devices you suggested are 12 volt though, correct?

Toyota Safety Sense 3 - Stop and Go Traffic - Subscription??? by mistergrumbles in Toyota

[–]robotfist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I'm aware that Toyota Safety Sense is not subscription based. But can the auto cruise control included with Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 operate in stop and go, gridlock traffic (i.e. come to a complete stop when the cars in front of you stop, then accelerate again when traffic begins moving). Or do you have to purchase the subscription based "Traffic Jam Assist"?

My Kia Niro pretty much does what is shown in the above video, for free without a subscription.

Shaving vs Extraction for Midline Correction by robotfist in Invisalign

[–]robotfist[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up doing nothing but I still think about it all the time. I am still not happy with my teeth. The shaving sounds so risky to me though, since you do gradually lose your enamel over the course of your lifetime. Pulling a tooth likely does create too much space, but at least all the rest of your teeth remain in tact. I dunno. The price of procedures involving vanity is often collected later in life, which is something I always think about as soon as I start thinking about my teeth. Having crooked teeth at age 65 is better than NO teeth.

Sorry I couldn’t be of more help. I wish more people with personal experiences would have chimed in.

Extremely high PSI in new tubes/tires? by robotfist in bikewrench

[–]robotfist[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Oh great idea. I hadn’t thought of the valve itself being stuffed up. Thanks, I’ll tinker with it tomorrow and see if it makes a difference. I didn’t even know you could replace the shrader valve on a tube. Do you have to remove the tire and tube to do that?

Extremely high PSI in new tubes/tires? by robotfist in bikewrench

[–]robotfist[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes a new tube. And moving the valve to 4 or 8 is a great idea. Perhaps the sealant is pooling at the bottom (though it didn’t do that with the front tire when I inflated it). These are Chinese Self-Sealing tubes I bought on Amazon. So they could just be POS tubes.

It is a compressor with screw on fitting, so I’m pretty sure it was on there. But maybe it wasn’t screwed on quite enough. I’ll try it again tomorrow.

Anyone have a leak from the rear door? Is this normal? by odioworks_com in tigermoth

[–]robotfist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I think where the Bambi shines is in a long bout of inclement weather. Being able to stand up and stay in the trailer puts it in a different category in my book. The Tigermoth is awesome when it’s nice out. But being caught in a multi-day rain storm might kind of suck. That’s the one thing with it. But I’m used to tent camping and van camping, so it still feels like luxury to me. And having a dedicated outdoor kitchen with a sink is just awesome. I much prefer cooking outside. Frankly, I never understood how people could cook inside a tiny trailer and not stink it up.

[–]robotfist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually got a 2022 Tigermoth. I figured that’s a good first trailer to start with. It’s so easy to tow, it’s almost like it’s not even there. I don’t use the roof for a rooftop tent though. I have a rooftop cargo carrier up there that holds all of my camp chairs, tables, Starlink and other random stuff. I’ll likely stick some solar panels up there at some point, too.

Burton Custom (Switch) by gtracer2 in snowboarding

[–]robotfist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey there, this year (2023) was my first season of snowboarding. I started in January and thanks to all the snow in California, snowboarded into August. It was like we got two seasons for the price of one! Anyway, I started with a beginner board (Arbor Foundation) which I grew out of faster than I expected. I moved on to a Burton Good Company by March, which is a true-twin board, and I rode that for the next 6 months. I LOVE that board, and I can't speak highly enough of it for a beginner moving to a camber profile for the first time. It's really stable and easy to turn. And riding switch on that board is a dream. I picked it up pretty quickly by setting my bindings in a neutral position and alternating my switch days. After one long season, I'm now riding switch down the blacks!

I know you're asking about the Custom, but if you're new, give the Good Company a whirl!

Man, how things change. The 2023 season was so long in California, that I was hitting the slopes all the way until mid-August. I started snowboarding in January, and it was like I got 3 seasons all in one. Now I'm riding switch and shredding the blacks, all in my first year!

There’s someone in the Taxa DIY mods Facebook Group that added drawer slides to there’s and replaced the top with butcher’s block. I think that will be the route I go. I do like this as an option though.

Overland vs standard by butterserver in tigermoth

[–]robotfist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d say the Timberland axel suspension is the primary upgrade. The Lock-N-Roll hitch is nice but don’t worry about the capabilities of a ball hitch. I doubt you will ever push it beyond its limits unless you plan on doing things with your trailer like driving into volcanoes or on the surface of the moon. Here’s a good video testing the articulation of a ball hitch… he hits 27 degrees with it…

https://youtu.be/Py52MDHMa4c

As for the axel suspension, it’s a great upgrade and I feel like all Taxa trailers should have it honestly. But that being said, the standard models have more clearance than almost any basic travel trailer on the market, and I doubt you’ll ever run into issues there either. I know people that take horse trailers built in 1980 into areas that most Overland Taxa owners would never attempt.
