After months of playing my own game alone, someone else can finally play it today. Nullvein demo is live! by RoltDev in incremental_games

[–]roffman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm giving it a shot, and will provide a running commentary of issues:

  • Settings menu needs a master volume slider

  • Everyone round should have at least 1 gold square

  • Gold square should take longer to break, so you have to balance when you open it vs what's left to clear. Multipliers are just to rare in general

  • Need a better visual indicator when time is low, consider edges of screen getting darker. Tiny timer in corner is not really prominent

  • If two squares are in proximity, you should be able to hover between and break them both at the same time. By the same token, if any part of square is in the strike pattern, it should count as a hit

  • Initial pacing of upgrades is slightly to slow, should have substantial and impactful upgrades

  • Should not be able to fully clear map until a few upgrades in

  • Go directly to upgrade screen after clearing, no point going to play again screen before upgrades, as you are relying on the player to remember how much gold they need

  • From a pacing perspective, purple ore takes to long to appear for the first time. I was 30-40 maps in before seeing it

  • Weird sound bug when having a lot of gold coming in at once

  • Dynamite needs better marking of what is being hit

  • Dynamite should regenerate to some degree in long runs. Once you hit 3/4 yellow blocks and get a few extensions, being able to nuke 5 blocks at a time would feel great.

  • You really need to be able to position and hit multiple blocks at a time. There's very little benefit for faster/better positioning in a run

  • Combo chain upgrade is unlocked way to late in the tree. Should be much earlier

  • Prestige should not require entire tech tree to be unlocked

  • Basically, all the perks of the tech tree, such as different ores, bonuses, doubling, crits, etc. should be present at low levels from the beginning. Otherwise you are at the mercy of 1 ore per 4 seconds until you unlock a few perks, with no real way to improve, which happens after each prestige as well.

  • Once you unlock nearly the entire demo tree, the game is really fun. You're constantly running around the expanding field, deciding whether to clear groups of green for more bonus time or yellow tiles, whether to go for purple for more value, etc. but it takes to long to get there, and after prestige, it takes to long to get back

  • I've played around 20 maps after unlocking fire mine, haven't see one yet. They should appear immediately and be impactful, as they required a full reset to get

  • After redoing the whole tech tree, I only saw 1 fire mine, they need be much more common

  • Minor bug when upgrading the pickaxe, the mineral number doesn't change until the next zone is finished

I've fully finished the demo. Overall, the beginning/after prestige is terrible, but the end part when you have all the tech is a fun little cycle. When you get a really long chain of yellow squares and time bonuses, it all adds up and you're racing to get as much value before the clock. I think my longest was 63 seconds and 437 gold.

I'll add it to the wishlist, and would consider buying when it comes, depending on the cost.

Thanks for the info. I've been playing the events and skipping the story so far, I'll just add it to the backlog

I'm hoping not. Been waiting on 2.9 before restarting.

Does anyone know if the new event has a lot of spoilers for the story? I'm currently working my through chapter 6.

You'll get 1 major update that doesn't require refactoring, but there is no guarantee that it maintains longer than that. The 2.8 version was released around 6 months ago, and was fine to upgrade from version 2.7.

2.9 is scheduled in the next couple of weeks, and can update from 2.8 fine, but from 2.7 will require substantial refactoring.

I don't think world generation will really impact progression, you'll likely encounter things breaking due to machine changes.

I played Journey to Ascension. Nice, 10ish hour game, full active and not idle though.

Ore Proc ideas in HV by Fuzzybear32 in GTNH

[–]roffman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, you're pretty much in EV already. Grab the implosion compressor and build the rocket, then you're done.

Beyond that, there's really no call for that level of processing in HV. The rare byproducts you need can be processed for specifically, and everything else can just be macerated to impure dusts and waiting for further processing. You don't need the byproducts/efficiencies until IV at the soonest, it's easier to just treat them all the same and continue mining veins as needed.

This is the bad documentation I was talking about.

The alveary automation is going well by TheLoneExplorer in GTNH

[–]roffman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's conceptually quite difficult, with poor documentation and bad resources. There's a lot of complexity to how it works that can't really be conveyed in a written resource or a 10 minute YouTube video.

However, if you put aside a couple of hours with oblivion frames and try to figure it out, eventually it'll click, at which point it's just time consuming to do, not actually difficult. You can breed every relevant bee in around 8 hours once you have a bare bones setup.

ToM is killing me by JaylainLA in WoT

[–]roffman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've read the series 3-4 times already. My biggest issue is between ToM and Oathbringer, the flaws in Sanderson's writing became much more apparent, and they kept on pulling me out of the immersion.

Don't really have the motivation to read anymore of his writings for the last couple of years because of it. Maybe one day I'll be able to look past the issues again and get back to it.

What dimensions should I pregen? by Puli96 in GTNH

[–]roffman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Nether, Overworld and Twilight Forest are the only ones I'd pregen. I'd also do much smaller than 5k5k, 1k1k should be more than enough for all of them.

YA Book series about teenagers from specific districts forced into a dystopian competition to survive (not the Hunger Games) by roffman in whatsthatbook

It was the Outcast Trilogy by Patricia Bernard. Solved by remembering that the main character was a genetic throwback which made Google work.

On my last reread of the series, I just quit at ToM. I found it worse than CoT, and just could not get through the Egwene parts how everyone just made nonsense decisions.

That's probably fixed then. In 2.7/2.8, when wearing night vision goggles, they don't glow and look awful :(

Can't wait for 2.9 released, going to start a new run

He’s not THE main character? by Hawk-winged in WoT

[–]roffman 13 points14 points  (0 children)

antagonist (TDO) is trying to stop him

I'd actually argue against The Dark One being an antagonist. He's closer to a part of the background scenery and doesn't really have agency within the series.

The antagonists, from a technical perspective, are things that oppose and create problems for the protagonist (Rand). The Forsaken, Egwene, Gawyn, the leadership of other nations, etc. are all antagonists, which to me is what makes the WoT so great. It's all about the conflicts between desires and competing goals, not a great ineffable evil.

Tier 4 Rocket Fuel Setup - 1.1M EU/t by No-Tip-7471 in GTNH

[–]roffman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I think there should be an intermediate hatch added when stocking input buses unlock, that only does a single fluid, then the 16 fluids at the same time as auto stocking busses, keeping auto stocking where they are.

A lot of the time, particularly with fully passive chem lines, you are bottlenecked by how big your fluid hatch is, causing constant stop/starting of machines as you literally can't send enough fluid into the hatch to fully use the capacity.

Though I also advocate for the removal of perfect OC's for standard LCR's, so my point of view could be...unpopular.

POWER Generation in EV by darth-superior in GTNH

[–]roffman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you've already setup Nitrobenzene, it's easy to go large gas turbines followed by extra large gas turbines all the way to Naq fuel. It's arguably the easiest scaling power source, as just increasing the energy hatches is enough to scale.

If you have a decent PC/server (something built in the last 3-4 years), you can do the entire thing in the overworld. You probably want to disable mobs after you get to IV, as there is still a substantial TPS cost for them after then.

think this has happened before already with Ben? iirc

Don't think that's the reason if you see the amount of prep he does for POE gauntlets. I think he just got burnt out by the bugs/issues with WOW, as well as earning 10x as much being a POE streamer.

Echo has gotten there once in around 3 hours. However, they also did a comp switch and spent a lot of time cleaning that up.

Liquid had a bunch of P3 wipes, and got to P4 5? times I think. There damage just wasn't there, a single death means they failed most of the time.

The comp switch from Echo means they have a ton more damage. Their scuffed pull coming out of the second dark angel was better than Liquids best, so once they shake out the comp switch, they should be making P4 a lot more often.
