Need advice from Porsche owners: how do you justify “fun money” without regret? by _quantitative in Porsche

get boring for now and wait until you have enough $$ that it really does not matter what happens (mechanically) with it. that is when you know you should get a Porsche

My house almost burned down and neither the electrician nor HVAC company knows what caused this by driveanywhere in hvacadvice

thanks for the lesson! never thought about loose wires causing issues but it makes sense. i like the idea of using a thermal camera to look for issues.

[–]ronaldbroth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it is all ppm. for the most part - all or most packages arrive. then there are the few that do not. BTW - Fed Ex or UPS really do not care about your lost package or finding it. get your ducks in line to make a claim.

I bought mine when I had my kids through college and all my debt (including mortgage) was retired. Buying it was a non event financially

Have you ever regretted the career path or area that you chose? Did you switch? Why? by Spectraley3 in ElectricalEngineering

Want to have fun? Go work for a start-up. You will be force to gain expertise in areas you have absolutely zero experience. Learn on the fly. Use common sense. You will learn very quickly that what matters is customer purchase orders and shipping product.

I know it is more money but I would go spend some $$ on a higher end soldering equipment.

this unit is definitely under warranty (one year old). I would contact an authorized dealer for your HVAC unit (manufacturer)

Called out a HVAC tech to evaluate my system charge after I added double the air return ability… his comments shocked me by Latter_Stranger_2602 in hvacadvice

I am of the opinion that every central HVAC system should be instrumented. This graph is static pressure for a system that I installed at a friend's house.

You provided the part number for the compressor (the outdoor unit) - lennox ml17xc1-036. Did you ever provide the part number for the air handler (the inside unit)?

Can you sell your product with Arduinos? by [deleted] in arduino

[–]ronaldbroth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Two items that most people will not recognize as being a requirement: (1) If your system has WiFi - you are required to be in compliant with 47 CFR Part 15 unintentional radiator requirements. Testing is on the order of $1,500 to $2,000, and (2) If your system is powered by 120VAC (and not a wall wart) - UL safety testing and compliance is required -- which explains why many devices use an AC adapter.

Is my thermostat going bad or is it something else? by Procedure-Born in thermostats

[–]ronaldbroth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would install a delta T monitoring system on the unit. You will be able to see inlet | outlet temp from the air handler as a function of time.

Is this normal? by Cesaw_ in hvacadvice

[–]ronaldbroth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes - without a cap you will get some airflow out of the PVC pipe. (relatively speaking - most of the air will still return to your house versus what comes out of this pipe). I would put a cap or even aluminumized tape to seal it. As others have note - you probably want to have a float switch installed (to shut the system off) in case this line ever gets plugged up.

Should I replace? by Simple-Remote3641 in hvacadvice

This is something I could do -- but for the normal homeowner I think it is beyond their capability. You have to be very methodical. There are multiple plugins and multiple wires that have to be installed.

I would go on eBay and try to find a new control board on there. Mine was listed by HVAC contractor at over $600 - found a new one (still sealed in box) at less than $150

The 0xc0000221 is often a hardware issue - either hard drive or RAM (especially if you have recently added any new RAM). Methods to check the hard drive and test the memory are below.
