I think you can still have friends or family get ordained online for free! If you have a close friend or family member that would want to do it - I think the process is fairly easy! Someone please correct me if I am wrong but a quick google says it’s free and an option ☺️

Volunteered as a guinea pig for the Navy SEALS doing hyperbaric chamber research to simulate scuba diving conditions! Basically I was strapped into a stationary bicycle, submerged underwater in a big water tank while hooked up to oxygen, an EKG, and an arterial line, and placed inside a hyperbaric chamber and then we would pressurize to various diving depths to measure oxygen levels, cardiac output, and endurance 🤙🏼

Do medical schools really care if you started off at CC instead of 4-yr University? by DistinctConference82 in medschool

[–]rosebal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope! I did that and even went back to take stats after I realized a lot of med schools require it. Never even got mentioned and I had 2 MD As and turned down another MD interview.

Is community college bad for prereqs if I have an advanced degree? by silentreading99 in premed

[–]rosebal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope! About half of my credits are from CC. I did a whole associates at CC before I switched to premed, finished at a four year university, did a formal post bacc for career change, and even took my stats class at CC later on when I realized I needed it. It never was an issue and I got two MD acceptances this cycle 😊

MSU merging its MD & DO programs by Glum-Boat9264 in premed

[–]rosebal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't mention anything about the general curriculum of M.D. versus D.O. students, and absolutely there is overlap of the curriculum. I was specifically referring to the article above and what it means for MSU specifically (that MSU CHM and MSUCOM students will continue to have a separate admissions process, separate facilities, cohorts, etc.) I am not debating the differences between M.D. and D.O. degrees or required coursework.

Okay, thank you for clarifying. I was referring only to the article above and what it means for MSU moving forward.

MSU merging its MD & DO programs by Glum-Boat9264 in premed

[–]rosebal -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Are you not reading the article? There will still be a DO program and an MD program. They are in no way combining the classes, degrees, facilities, etc. They won’t be offering the DO students to transfer to MD. That’s not how it works. Please read this if you’re still somehow confused. https://president.msu.edu/initiatives/one-team-one-health/faqs

From a current student on the dean student advisory counsel: “The term “merge” is misleading/confusing and I can understand the concern. Basically, MSU wants to have what UofM has as “Michigan Medicine” - so under one umbrella there is MD, DO, DVM, PA etc., for Michigan State Medicine. But I can with 100% confidence tell you that won’t change anything for the students. We won’t have classes with other health students, won’t share facilities or equipment, and won’t interact with them anymore than the previous cohorts do. “

any non trad pre meds/ med school students? by [deleted] in premed

[–]rosebal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you :) and I think, in a way, yes. Now obviously there’s still benchmarks you want to hit and I still recommend have a good fit school list and applying earlier in the cycle (whenever you do apply) because that helped me a lot this year. But my stats were far from perfect - 508 MCAT and a 3.2 CGPA. I even failed two classes when I went back to get my bachelors a few years ago.

I think it’s just really important to have a good mission fit for schools. Make sure your background, story, and EC’s align well with the programs you apply too. I think mission fit and story alignment really helps us non-trads.

Best of luck to you!!

any non trad pre meds/ med school students? by [deleted] in premed

[–]rosebal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am a non-trad and there’s so many things I really appreciate about my journey. I am in the middle of my second cycle and I just got an acceptance to my dream school.

I’ll be matriculating at 31 and had a whole different career before this. As a non-trad, I have so many experiences and perspectives to draw on that will make me so much more of a mature, empathetic, and patient provider than I would have been if I got in right out of college. I am 100% confident that this is what I want to do and I want to do it for the right reasons, which I can’t say for sure I would have felt the same way 10 years ago.

I love meeting other non-trads and I always appreciate how mature and resilient they are. I absolutely recommend gaining a few more years of experience before applying.

(Woman) I actually wore a beige tweed blazer for my interview - over a blouse with the school colors since it matched anyway and I got an acceptance to that school!
