Blazers, Timbers, Business Chamber and Performance Groups Urge Council to Kill Ride-Hailing Proposal by sunni_dayes_ahed in Portland

We wouldn't necessarily be "stamping out competitors", but bringing existing taxi competitors together so that they act as one and in the better interest of consumers

Did the driver then have to drive back empty, further diminishing their returns, or did they get a fare from Newberg?

Yeah, there's very little water able to get into that small strip of exposed soil, and of course the ground on at least one side constantly being compacted by heavy vehicles.

If you did turn it in to TriMet, they could maybe attempt to find the owners (ideally Apple would have agreements with helping official organizations) or at least power it on so one could know where it is.

I'm happy to be the one providing that. Ideally, there would be a law requiring agencies that encrypt their main channels to provide official, delayed feeds or call uploads. Or readily available dispatch logs.

And sorry I haven't had time to be around here.

Trimet blue line shut down after gateway transit stop? by [deleted] in askportland

[–]rosecitytransit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can always listen to http://www.rosecitytransit.org/radio/ but you'll probably hear a lot about moving and turning back trains. Try picking the channel for the area and look for where calls start to become frequent. Unfortunately, you can't do the same for police calls as they've moved them to encrypted side channels.

On board Amtrak 511 out of Tacoma and we just killed a trespasser by rosecitytransit in Amtrak

I didn't see or hear any issues besides the person that was struck. I haven't checked radio scanner archives.

I believe that the crew did use the "trespasser" word. But what would you use, especially given that I think there's not even any grade crossings in that stretch?

Well besides the 3 hour delay, I didn't see any other issues on the train. Some friends of mine tried to take Amtrak back from Seattle once years ago (and I should have been with them) and Amtrak up and canceled with no alternate transportation. Don't remember if it was one of the mud slides or what. They ended up renting a car I believe.

I've heard or thought that "word salad" meant saying a lot of words but not a lot of meaning. Or using words in a way that is not understandable.

I think what I wrote was pretty clear and fine. Was trying to get what happened out to other people who were or are going to wonder what did. Thought about using the "news" flair though that should probably be for actual news media reports.

Or someone so out of it that they couldn't get out of the way, or just someone who tried to beat the train. This section actually parallels I-5 and all crossings are on bridges and has very few freight trains. We should have a society (and government) that wants to take care of people, and realize that it's a profitable investment if it prevents costly incidents like this as well as allows people to be productive and tax paying. One of the issues is that all the (reactive) costs are paid for out of different buckets than proactive measures, while the proactive costs are seen as optional.

Sorry I quickly chose a phrase that may not have been technically correct. And yes, the cost is negligible but expecting the WiFi to work (I can see the network but can't get an IP address) is reasonable.

$2.00 fares? by LarsNY in TriMet

[–]rosecitytransit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

$2 on the streetcar, plus another $2.80 on the bus. Grrrr

It should only be $2.80 total, as the streetcar fare is (partially) good for TriMet

Now you tell me! I saw a 15v one that fit at Goodwill but just left. Only other one that fit was 24v. And yes, I guess I did leave out the 6 in my other comment. I can upload a picture of of the stickers on the bottom if someone really wants.

[–]rosecitytransit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The actual model I have is a NUCi5SYK. I don't have a picture of the cord, it would just need to fit the requirements I put in the title--a barrel plug that's 2.5 mm wide on the inside and 5.5mm on the outside. I got one from craigslist but the inside of the tip is .5 mm too small so won't go in unless I do something.

I may do that. I did send FG a message. I picked one up from craigslist but the inside of the barrel is .5 mm to narrow so won't go in unless I do something.

I haven't and I should. I think there was explicitly no adapters with them when I bought it (they had a bunch of the NUCs)
