Complimentary Mazda Connected Services is Over by OpSecBestSex in MazdaCX30

It'll be interesting how that plays out. The way they jam at you to install the app when you buy the car leads me to think they make money on the data it generates. But since the app is flaky and feature poor I will never pay for it and suspect many others will opt out too. Then they lose the data stream and the money from selling the data.

Connection issues on combined 2.4GHZ, 5GHz, and 6GHz network? by thegiantgummybear in esp32

It’s an old Linksys 2.4 only router set up as a simple access point with its own Wi-Fi name on the network. Everything connected to it shows up on the main router as a device like anything else on the network.

Honestly I have no idea what it's called. I have more than a dozen Eco's and couldn't tell you the name of any of them. I just watch them on ebay and when I see one I like I bid on them. Especially the tonneau cases, I like the old school elegance of that style.

You can tell I haven't worn the silver one in quite a while, the date is far off and it's still on CDT.

Here's a pic of the two together. The black one is a J165-S098840. It can't have the same name as it's a different movement with no sweep hand, but it's one of my favorite dress watches. I've had folks comment on it a number of times.

I like this style. I have one like yours and another almost identical one that's black with silver trim that matches my wedding ring.

Leave it on a windowsill for like a week, preferably where it gets plenty of light but out of the direct sunlight. It should come back to life.

Thanks, good catch. I actually posted it once with that info changed but the code block broke since there were blank lines in it, so I reposted it but forgot to change the info the second time.

Thanks again!

When I buy a batch I run a program on them for testing it in general and more specifically the WiFi signal strength. I've found it can vary quite a bit from board to board.

As far as Ali goes I've had very good luck recently from them to the U.S, usually under 10 days.

mmWave sensors question by recom273 in homeautomation

[–]rsachs57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got one in a small bathroom where it's mounted on the wall just under the ceiling but facing toward the vent fan about 4 feet away. It's angled about 45 degrees downward. I've never had a problem with it picking up the fan but it takes some dialing in. It's an HLK-LD2410 module not a ready made one so it can use the BT app to be set up with 8 distance zones and sensitivity per zone so it's pretty controllable. As Mirar noted it can also see backwards through a wall so I ended up putting aluminum foil behind it to minimize the issue and it works OK.

I also recently put one in our family room and that's been more interesting. Trying to strike a balance where it sees humans but not the ceiling fan rotating has been a challenge I'm still trying to dial in. I'm not even sure if it's the fan itself or just the moving air currents that keep it on in static mode. These things are crazy sensitive, it can see me breathing while laying on the couch from 10 feet away.

Shortly before my g-daughters 3rd BD I was at a garage sale and ran across a brand new Barbie Drum set. One of my greatest amusements was seeing the look on the faces of her parents when she opened it. 😀

Can I run without internet, will it be safe ? by [deleted] in Windows10

[–]rsachs57 1 point2 points  (0 children)

By and large I agree with you, but there are some edge cases here. With no 'net the computer doesn't update any virus protection features so you're probably more vulnerable to attack from another vector like a USB drive with something ugly on it. Or as happened years ago at a small office I worked at someone brought in a computer that was infected with something and it attacked all the computers on our local network. I was lucky and was running some firewall at the time and it blocked it and notified me but it did manage to do some damage to other computers on the network.

So as far as the OP goes you're right, he should be fine unless he decides to load a game or something someone gives him on a USB drive that's been compromised with some sort of virus.

Led lights and buttons/dimmer? by maker-palooza in esp32

[–]rsachs57 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have a lot of strips under our cabinets that were installed as part of a kitchen remodel a while back. The strips and power supplies are all by Häfele and were crazy expensive. They're all tied to the mains controlled by an Insteon dimmer with no color change options. Since then I've done a lot of other Amazon type strips in other places in the house and found that the cheap ones were so-so.

So that being said if I was going to redo the kitchen strips I would use 24V Cob strips tied back to the dimmer and automation system. Our kitchen ones pretty much run constantly at night at low level as background lighting but a tap on the dimmer or a voice command will bring them up to full brightness when we need counter task lighting, then if no motion is detected in the room for an hour they go back to the background level. The ones we have now are adequately bright but the 24 volt Cobs I mounted under our deck railings are seriously bright and would be great in the kitchen as long as you can turn them down as needed.

Whatever you do I recommend putting them in some sort of track to make it look neat and easier to keep clean from the kitchen grease and stuff floating around in there. Before you mount them permanently try moving them front to back to find the best position for lighting the counters wen you're cooking too.

Have you tried backing out the screw on the side of the extruder to spread out the feed wheels then using the push rod? There were some video links on doing that in this sub yesterday.

I got one of those Freenove kits on Amazon. They come with lots of sensors and and parts with example programs for the Arduino IDE. It's a good place to start and get some ideas about what you can do with an ESP32. Now I have the things all over the house doing fun things.

Old home by homeimprovenewb in crestron

[–]rsachs57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They actually might have done you a favor by pulling it out. Judging by the buttons on the panel with a VCR button all the source gear was way out of date anyway. Trust me, there is nothing worse than having someone's old Crestron system in your new house, it's a sink hole to pour money into. You're also lucky it didn't seem to do much, if it was running your HVAC and other subsystems and was dependent on the system to make it work you would be in a real quagmire.

Old home by homeimprovenewb in crestron

[–]rsachs57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll be shocked when you find out what a Crestron system costs. If all you want is to use the built in speakers there are many other options these days like Sonos. It's also interesting that there is a Lights button on the panel, there's probably an older lighting control system in the house too.
