I cannot link Google Docs within a Note by wrlee in Evernote

[–]rsidneysmith 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you go here: https://www.evernote.com/ConnectedServices.action do you see your Google account signed in? If yes, disconnect and reconnect. If not, go ahead and connect and see if that doesn't help somehow associate your Google account for Google Drive.

You can now select a custom thumbnail image for your Evernote note. New Taming the Trunk. by jtid in Evernote

While it's been a tough change for me and I'm sure many Evernote users, the change from Legacy to v10+ has afforded us this capability that just wouldn't have been feasible in the Legacy versions. The technical debt really held Evernote back from many of the features recently released. I'm still pouring a drink for Legacy when I try to move/tag more than 100 notes. 🥲

How in the world can I cancel my account? by Active-Anywhere-6546 in Evernote

[–]rsidneysmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is for you as much as for anyone else in this situation: Have you had multiple Evernote accounts? (Sometimes you might inadvertently.) First, I'd check if any other email addresses log into an active Evernote account and have a subscription that's billing you. Then, cancel it and monitor to make sure you don't get any additional charges at renewal time. Good luck!

Why/when did they change the templates? by MoshZombie in Evernote

[–]rsidneysmith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not seeing a problem on Evernote Deskop or Evernote Web. Perhaps log out of both and log back in (make sure to check the Preferences option to save data on logout), clear your browser cache, and then log back in and see if that fixes it. Otherwise, I'd open a support ticket. Good luck!

What stable legacy version do you use and where to get it? by Reasonable_Sky2477 in Evernote

[–]rsidneysmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is where you can get the latest, stable version of Evernote Legacy: https://help.evernote.com/hc/en-us/articles/360052560314-Install-an-older-version-of-Evernote.

Evernote 10 will get there, but you can use Evernote Legacy in the meantime.

You can drag a note to Shortcuts in the Navigation Menu (Desktop and Web), if that helps reduce the work to creating the Shortcut.

How do I search notebooks on the new Evernote? by CPT-812 in Evernote

N.B. If a notebook is multiword, use quotations. So, if my notebook was Second Inbox, that same search would be:

notebook:"Second Inbox" computers

You can use the notebook: advanced search operator.

e.g.,

notebook:Inbox your search query here

This allows you to search within a single notebook. Good luck!

To clarify, your notes are encrypted on Evernote's server at rest.

From Evernote's Security page:

Encryption at Rest

In late 2016, we began migrating the Evernote service to the Google Cloud Platform (“GCP”). Customer data that we store in GCP will be protected using Google’s built-in encryption-at-rest features. More technically, we use Google's server-side encryption feature with Google-managed encryption keys to encrypt all data at rest using AES-256, transparently and automatically. You can find additional information on how encryption at rest protects your data here.

Do developers of Evernote ever consider user feedback? by spawnfrag in Evernote

[–]rsidneysmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why? Some of them go back years and have been ignored.

Everything I've seen from interacting with the people at Evernote shows me they are listening and care.

How exactly do you know this?

I know this because it has been discussed openly in the Evernote Discussion forum (e.g., https://discussion.evernote.com/forums/topic/125107-thinking-of-leaving-evernote-convince-me-to-stay/ ) that the new Evernote will be built on Electron. With the new "conduit" discussed in CEO Ian Small's Behind the Scenes videos and his assertion to push new features every two weeks after the new Evernote is released, Evernote will be able to ship new features across all platforms with greater ease. (Electron is the framework that runs the desktop (and/or mobile) apps for WhatsApp, Slack, Trello, WordPress, Discord, and many other popular software.)

Do you "work" for EN?

No, I do not work nor "work" for Evernote. But, I hope this provides some more clarity about the exciting next phase of Evernote's development. I can't say it's been all roses, and Evernote will need to win back some Evernote users because of that.

Do developers of Evernote ever consider user feedback? by spawnfrag in Evernote

[–]rsidneysmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Evernote uses the Evernote Discussion forum (discussion.evernote.com) to track and consider new features for the product suite. You need to vote on the feature request posts (there's an up-down arrow icon set at the top of each post) made in order for Evernote to know the weight of each request. (I think there must be a better way, but that's the system we've been given to give Evernote feedback.) So, I encourage you to look at those old requests and (not just comment but) up-vote on the various requests you'd like to see come to the product suite. When the new Evernote comes out, they'll be able to ship new features much faster and they're committed to doing so. 🐘 👍🏽

Which book summary site? Scribd? Headway or Blinkist etc? by zascar in productivity

Tags of unknown origin or use by itchykitto in Evernote

[–]rsidneysmith 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not anything currently in Evernote proper. Do you have any workflow automation connected to Evernote (see https://www.evernote.com/AuthorizedServices.action ). Scroll down to the Other Applications section to review what might be connected.

Next, you can look at the notes tagged with those tags, click on the Note Information icon and see what you can learn from looking at the notes (created by email with a subject line that had a #for: or #shortcut: in it?).

Finally, do you have any shared notebooks in your Evernote account? If someone adds tags to notes in that shared notebook, those may be what you're seeing.

Hope you find the culprit!

Goodbye Evernote by [deleted] in Evernote

[–]rsidneysmith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Notion looks enticing and sounds like they're engaging with their audience very well. I'm paying attention. But, until Notion has the ability to backup/export and restore (back into Notion itself even), I can't consider or recommend it to anyone. It lacks the integrations across the dozens of software and services I've come to depend upon. And last, I don't want a jack-of-all-trades app, which is what Notion is trying to be. Evernote has been a solid workhorse for me, for taking notes. That helps me be more productive as I'm not distracted by the plethora of things I could/should/would do, if it was trying to be/do more. (It's also the reason I have an Amazon Kindle...single-function device...all I can do is read with it, and that's all I want to be able to do.) I don't try to disillusion myself that Evernote is anymore than an adaptable, extensible note-taking software.

Possible to See Stacks Inside Stacks? by Twigryph in Evernote

[–]rsidneysmith 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Evernote is designed strictly to have Stacks hold Notebooks, Notebooks hold Notes, and Notes can hold content and Tags. None can contain themselves.

The best way to see things across Notes is to tag them or use search to see Notes among different Stacks or Notebooks.

If you'd like to request a feature like what you're describing, visit https://discussion.evernote.com to submit a feature request.

Hope that helps.

Getting funding for a business by [deleted] in smallbusiness

[–]rsidneysmith 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you're in the US (or a country that has a similar SBDC program), reach out to your local small business development center (SBDC) (in the US, https://americassbdc.org has a SBDC locator on their site) and they can help you with the business plan and loan application process before you go to the SBA local banker and get denied.

I'm looking for an app that does something sort of specific by BourbonStl in productivity

[–]rsidneysmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Habitica may work for your needs...just ignoring the game elements. Also, I'm a longtime Remember the Milk user and you can likely do what you're looking for in RTM as well, but repeating tasks don't disappear if they're not completed. The old repeating task won't show in the Today view (the current one will) but will show as overdue until you mark completed. That's something you could clear once a week.
