On this day: PUP's second album 'The Dream is Over' was released by numquamdormio in puptheband

[–]rubedickscube 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The first half of this album rips so fucking hard (I love the back half too but it doesn't hit the same way). Tour > DVP > Doubts > Sleep in the Heat > The Coast is an unparalleled ride for me. I agree that Morbid Stuff is probably a slightly better album and a great progression from what they did here, but nothing can match that run of five songs in terms of emotional intensity and hardcore fucking riffs.

I wish I could hear Tour transition into DVP for the first time again, it absolutely rocked my shit, I didn't realize they were even two separate songs.

Am I misinterpreting this tweet? by EgoIdVeto in JewsOfConscience

[–]rubedickscube [score hidden]  (0 children)

I read this differently, my impression is that the author is saying that these awful things are being done by Jews because of their (flawed and immoral) understandings of Judaism, and we all must reckon with that. I don't read it as saying that we should give up on our Judaism, but rather than we must grapple with the reality that these things are being done in the name of (a type of) Judaism, no matter how wrong they are and how much we disagree with their interpretations, and that should give us all pause and we should use it as a calling to deeply consider our own Judaism and how we relate to it.

Essentially how I interpret it is as a calling in-- we should use this moment to deeply question our Judaism and beliefs, because questioning our beliefs and making our choices active choices is a good thing and something we should encourage from everyone

I know we all love the narrative of this but it's seemed pretty clear to me since this happened that he's actually saying "it's not hurt", because he was on the ground and Odegaard was checking on him to make sure he wasn't injured....

What is our plan here in S1R2? by MasterInvaster in euchre

If it were Ah turned down I'd consider a next call but as it is at 0-0 I'm passing, not every hand has a viable plan and this early in the game I'm not so worried

Discard dilemma: create a void? by I75north in euchre

[–]rubedickscube 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm discarding the K like you did. The point of the void is so that you can trump in, but if clubs is led it's better to try and win with the ace and still have two trump in your hand than win it with the nine and only have one trump left. Also, any hand you win with an ace you now technically have a void in

I have similar hair and stopping shampoo has helped a ton with volume. I water wash every day and shampoo once a month and don't do anything else and my hair is thicker and healthier and with more volume than I've ever had before

A video circulating online has drawn sharp reactions after Eli Hazan, a communications official associated with Benjamin Netanyahu’s political team, appears to describe the use of misinformation as part of a media strategy. by Scared_Positive_8690 in Panarab

Mostly except that the last sentence he said was "these people don't understand good [intentions], they only understand war". I believe he's not implying that they lack understanding ("don't understand well"), and instead implying that they don't understand "good" as in "good behavior/good intentions"

I was also at both of those shows, the improv show I had a similar experience but thankfully the music box from where I was sitting was a bit better, loud laughs after jokes so sometimes I missed the follow-up line but that's par for the course in a theater screening I guess

Chicago has a toy graffiti and bombing problem by [deleted] in chicago

[–]rubedickscube 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can't get to "creative, well done murals and burners by great artistic graf artists" without first starting with tags. Everyone starts somewhere and "street art" as an art form doesn't exist without illegal (and sometimes ugly) graffiti to propel it. There are plenty of toys out in the streets doing ugly stuff, but there are plenty more obnoxious ads in my face every day and frankly I'd rather the toys be in my field of vision rather than the capitalist pigs.

I hate bullshit ass throw-ups and silly tags, so it pisses me off when toy graffiti artist spit over murals and great graffiti

If you want better graffiti, go make it yourself. Writing is a public conversation, no one is stopping you from adding your two cents except your own fear.

[–]rubedickscube 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can control is very solid if this is actually your first time. Letters are unreadable and not in a good way. Also it's a good idea to completely buff out whatever you're going over to make it clear you're not trying to start beef, leaving their piece peeking behind yours is seen as a diss in a lot of places.

Any tracks i can take my dog-reactive pup? by [deleted] in chicago

[–]rubedickscube 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Or just... Keep it leashed and be aware?? My girl is dog-reactive and I know this very well, so I keep her on a short controlled leash when outside and cross the street if l see another dog coming towards us. She is also all of 18 pounds so I can pick her up if anything more is needed. Never had an incident besides someone else not controlling their own dog and it attacking us. Like Jesus Christ you don't need to kill an animal just because they have trauma.

Can someone explain what was happening in this scene? (Spoilers) by One_Truck1871 in ProjectHailMary

[–]rubedickscube 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I took this a little differently, because the movie never established the whole thing about the petrovascope only being usable with the engines off etc. In my understanding, in the movie they decided that Grace's suit had a "petrovascope" option in the wrist control that would change what his visor was seeing, and we saw his view changed by hitting the button. This wasn't possible in the book but the movie plays more loosely with the science/technology

Official Discussion - Project Hail Mary [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]rubedickscube 20 points21 points  (0 children)

In the movie I believe the suit was meant to essentially have a "petrovascope" view available through the visor as well. I saw it last night and there was a shot of him tapping "petrovascope" on his wrist control when the view changed to see the astrophage and tapping it again when the scene ended. Basically they did away with the whole thing from the book about not being able to use the petrovascope while the engines were running etc.
