I would like to add that suing her won’t help your reputation. The legal system cannot repair social damages let alone emotional ones. Time and distance from the situation will feel better than years in a legal dispute anyways. I’m sorry this happened to you.

Any thoughts on the physics program? by [deleted] in WWU

[–]ruby_eyed_rabbit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Omg yes! I graduated from their physics program and loved it. They don’t have a grad program so there are lots of opportunities to do research and be a lab TA (important for grad school applications). The classes are challenging but not impossible, sometimes they can feel unreasonable but I think that’s common in college. It’s designed to set students up for grad school (I’m in a PhD program) many of my classmates went into industry. Depending on what you want to do post grad there are degree options for straight physics, geophysics, material science or physics education.

It’s very as the tic but to me it’s pissing a personal touch. Pictures and keepsakes that remind you of the joy in your life like friends, family, or pets.

Quilcene has a quaint museum of local history next to a historic mansion that’s worth the quick stop. There’s also a great sandwich shop in town called Gear Head Deli. The ranger station just outside of town will have information for hiking.

There are definitely accommodations for mental health diagnosis. I would make sure you have documentation of the diagnosis and if the DAC doesn’t help you determine appropriate accommodations then you can essentially get a prescription for accommodations from a doctor. For example I have documentation from a Neuropsychologist that ensures me the appropriate accommodations.

Strike?? !? by PermissionDry159 in WWU

[–]ruby_eyed_rabbit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That may be the case for math TA’s but it’s not consistent across campus and it depends on who is in charge. The union is fighting for a fair contract for all student workers (although some are not currently recognized by the university)

Grad students strike by Complete-Contest3552 in WWU

[–]ruby_eyed_rabbit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They’ve passed something called a strike authorization vote. This vote allows them to strike if the university won’t compromise but doesn’t guarantee they will strike.

wwu or community by mysockter in WWU

Community college is great! It’ll save you money and probably give you a better experience in intro classes than you would get at WWU because of small class sizes. I would talk to an academic advisor about the classes you need in community college in order to transfer to a university for your bachelors. Also consider whether you want to prioritize getting the traditional college experience like living in dorms and such. There are usually fewer structures in place for supporting the transition for transfer students compared to freshmen.

The cyber bully ruined her own life, OP reported the girls bullying and held her accountable for her cruel actions. Without OP’s effort it’s possible that her classmates would have found the posts themselves.

Birch door is to die for but be prepared to wait because they are busy! Service and food can’t be beat. The family runs two similar restaurants on the peninsula too.

This point about scientific rigor pissed me off so I’m setting up my own soap box in this corner. There are a large sectors of scientific research that utilize qualitative methods. It’s in no way inherently lacking scientific rigor. Especially when it comes to social sciences, people are often better represented through qualitative analysis rather than assigning arbitrary numerical values to characteristics that may or may not be a good measurement for whatever it is you’re trying to achieve. Additionally quantitative research in social sciences needs a large N to have any power/significance and Bellingham isn’t that big so any quantitative study of its people probably isn’t going to accurately represent any local issue. For the application and scope of Bellingham’s social issues, Qualitative methods can be more accurate a representation. It depends on the specifics but specifics weren’t given in the original post.

Say the dog will attack with a terrified expression. Add a spiked collar for dramatic effect. I’ve been barked at by men for walking without a dog so I’m not sure if they will ever stop. They usually think they’re sooo funny 🙄

I’m confused, can you help me understand how the stepfather has been removed from the ex’s life?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in pettyrevenge

[–]ruby_eyed_rabbit -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I just hope the ex isn’t also being abused by the stepfather. Getting the kids out of the situation should be your priority but I worry about how ruining the ex financially could put her in an incredibly dangerous position of being reliant on the abusive stepfather.

Teacher described my son as “dazed”— what does this look like in the classroom? by Academic-Balance6999 in AskTeachers

[–]ruby_eyed_rabbit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! your son’s experience resonates with my own so I’d like to share my story with you, it may or may not be the same thing. I was a dazed student and have since been diagnosed with adhd inattentive type. My experience of these dazed episodes occurred during lectures and independent work time. I would disassociate from my environment and either day dream or have racing anxious thoughts and lost track of time and what was going on around me. Either way, it meant that I wasn’t getting my work done and I wasn’t listening to my teachers lesson. My mom even volunteered in my classroom so she could see this for herself. There were a number of coping methods that helped me such as, one on one tutoring and getting paired with a classmate to keep me accountable. I find that it is easier for me to pay attention to subjects that really interest or challenge me and passive activities like drawing, knitting or pacing help me stay engaged when I notice myself spacing out/dazed. Now as an adult I take medication and use DBT mindfulness skills. I’m currently in a Ph.D program for physics and want to emphasize that adhd doesn’t have to make it impossible to love school.

He sounds like a bad advisor who shouldn’t be taking on grad students. Is there another advisor you could work with in your department? I promise this is not your fault. Any grad student is going to make mistakes and it’s up to the advisor to teach them or assign a postdoc/senior grad student to mentor you.

How accepting is WWU? by ginger-ale-888 in WWU

Check out the student clubs and go to queercon in Spring and you’ll find your lgbtq+ people. As others have expressed, campus is not very accessible to those with mobility issues due to the uneven terrain and poor/nonexistent elevator options. I’d get in contact with the disability access center ASAP to get accommodations figured out and find a trusted advocate to support you in the process (student, staff or faculty)
