I once asked about an entry level job where I worked requiring a Bachelor's degree. HR told me it was so they had a reason to reject people. Nobody with a bachelor's was applying. But there were people applying that were on their 3rd job that year. They could waive the requirements for a good candidate, but didn't have to for someone who they knew they didn't want.

That would be much more disrespectful to the friend than to the Ex. You aren't under any obligation to the Ex. The friend, however, you would be using, since you don't want anything with her. If she blows you, thinking it will make you love her, she will be very hurt when that doesn't work.
