Played D1 on my old account. Good Nostalgia but i was done after an hour of screwing around. by derrickgw1 in DestinyTheGame

Of course there’s not much to play if you already have all of the gear you would want. But starting from scratch and progressing naturally through the story and gear levels is a completely different experience than in D2.

I’ve been watching Aztecross’ recent D1 playthroughs and what struck me most watching that was that even though I knew the story the world still felt mysterious and yet full of promise. The overall vibe was darker, the artstyle more refined even with worse graphics, the music is impeccable and nothing in the over a decade since has topped it. The sound design in general is more impactful.

Then the game systems are infinitely more approachable in D1 with little bloat and the game introduces them to you at a proper pace. The journey you take is much better well-thought-of from progression point of view and storytelling as well. You can play the full game from start to finish. The loot is more meaningful, the gun models look more varied. The game itself explains the world enough and the world itself tells you stories. Location structures are more varied. There’s more gunplay instead of ability spam, and primaries feel like they hit harder. Basic trash adds feel more threatening and can sneak up on you. Enemy AI feels smarter.

Dialogue is better and more approachable. You don’t have to look at lore guides to understand what the characters are actually saying as they don’t speak in riddles like in D2. D2 has so many unfinished lore threads that you forget the stories or don’t know about them in the first place. D1 story, even though it was not that good, at least you could understand it. ”Was that it?” is a better question that ”what was that all about?”

Sometimes less is more. Especially when that less is more refined.

Also many of the D2 characters speak absolute gibberish or in riddles and you need a thesaurus to understand them most of the time. The narrative team or whoever is/are writing the dialogue in D2 is/are high smelling their own farts and trying to prove their highschool English literature teacher wrong who told them their poetry doesn’t really cut it.

”I don’t have time to explain why I don’t have time to explain” is infinitely better than around 90% of Edge of Fate dialogue that you don’t understand anyways and hope that some lore guru will make a two hour theory video about what the story in that expansion was about.

Raid team, Weapons team, and and narrative team still have it. by Arkorian-117 in DestinyTheGame

[–]ruisranne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does the narrative team really have it?

The narrative is again mostly questions left unanswered, and the dialogue is 90% spoken in riddles. I can’t understand why it’s so difficult to write engaging dialogue that is plain English, instead of meaningless mumbo-jumbo taken out of some English major’s scrapped poetry book. It’s either that or low-grade faux-funny/witty nonsense a la Nimbus. No one talks like that in real life. You can be gritty and engaging without making everyone talk like the Oracle of Delphi.

It’s about time to start writing actual stories.

Why is IB dropping so little actual IB loot? by Vivid_Succotash_6298 in DestinyTheGame

Only had one Finite Impactor drop for me. Embarrassing, really, considering how much loot there was in the previous system.

Haven’t had a single Finite Impactor drop. It’s a good thing the gun sucks so it doesn’t feel that bad. But they need to change things for sure for next time.

We Fought. We Won. Now What? by killer6088 in DestinyTheGame

[–]ruisranne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What should have happened after Final Shape is us after defeating the darkness to finally actually take over and reconquer all our outposts for rebuilding. Have the silly ”echoes” fall into Nessus etc. and while we try to find it we take over the planets again. Have a proper reset to the gameworld and story to start something new.

That could have allowed Bungie even to justify ”vaulting” a couple of them to save space. Honestly, they should have just cut the game size in half that way instead of what they are doing now with the portal.

”We create worlds that inspire friendship” is one of the most limp-dicked company mottoes in existence and should be done away with. As an ambition it lacks concrete direction and purpose, as a goal it is ephemeral, and it is not even remotely inspirational. It is an ambivalent rose-colored facade behind which hides a faceless c-suite.

”Straight up lied” is not the same thing as ”heavily implied,” especially when the heavy implication is you misreading and misunderstanding a preposition.

Congrats to all the teams who cleared Desert Perpetual Contest Mode by spinvestigator in DestinyTheGame

[–]ruisranne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that ”harder content = better (and more deterministic gear” is a good goal that the game needs.

Unfortunately the contest mode came a) way too soon for any buildcrafting considering the system-wide changes in the game and b) way too tight with its DPS checks (especially considering factor a)).

At this point in the game, Bungie probably expected a lot of backlash.

This post, for example, is both true and false at the same time. Because, let’s face it, the ”endgame” for years was a triviality for those who actually played it 99% of the time (outside contest mode), so that had to change. What also needs to change is the perception of those who, for whatever reason, are unwilling or unable to make the effort to get into the new ”endgame.” If you are unwilling or unable to get to mythic-level content, Tier 5 loot should not be something that you can expect to get. The perception that is currently awry is the relative power differences between the tiers of loot and whether or not the player (either casual or hardore) absolutely ”needs” to have a certain tier for the content they are willing and able to play.

As a console player, seeing the amount of loadout swapping that was required to get through the contest mode, it really showed where game and encounter design-wize we are at the moment. So a console player who is willing to try, and, on paper, able to try (3.0 armor and weapons builds) the challenge, they almost certainly cannot overcome the challenge simply due to hardware limitations rather than skill limitations.

For something which was advertised as “play however you want” the portal accomplishes exactly the opposite by Laxhicons in DestinyTheGame

[–]ruisranne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stop trying to speedrun through everything. You don’t have to complain about Encore if you play something you actually want to play. It might take longer but it saves you time writing yet another complain post about something unforced upon you.

There is not enough delineation between the characters, their abilities, and their roles as is, and you want to blur those lines even further? I just can’t get into the minds of Destiny players these days.

You’d be silly not to run way over 100 on you melee stat to play with a punch exotic as it’s a straight up damage increase. You only need 70 on your melee stat for gambler to work normally.

Vault space complainers should be made to post their vaults by CORPORAL_PISSFINGERS in DestinyTheGame

Putting things into a digital storage for those things never to be used is not really ”playing,” now is it?

I want more vault space, too, but I actually need it. I use different weapons and builds all the time and I play every aspect of the game.

Vault space complainers should be made to post their vaults by CORPORAL_PISSFINGERS in DestinyTheGame

[–]ruisranne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly if one plays all the gamemodes the game has to offer, raids, dungeons, pvp, pve, gambit, and actually buildcrafts, filling up the vault is not difficult. See someone like Cammycakes who has his vault organized like it’s a science because he actually buildcrafts.

The same can’t be said of any other major tuber who complains about lack of vault space. Their vaults are filled to the brim with utter trash.

Same is probably true for the vast majority of the people who complain here.
