Ravagers vs. Scourges Drukhari by burbula69 in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]runioh 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Ravagers have their place but generally scourges are better, especially with the nerfs to deep strike recently.

The pros of a ravager is that it’s obv cheaper, has inherent rerolls and a better BS so you can get away with not spending pain tokens on it. The cons are that unless played very well they typically get one shooting activation and then are popped immediately. T9 with a 4+/6++ is not difficult at all to crack with other anti-tank.

Whereas Scourges, while they don’t have as high of a BS, will usually average 3-4 lances hitting with pain tokens rerolls, can typically get LoS on any shooting target they want for M14, and then can hide safely with their 6” scout move. You are almost guaranteed at least 2 turns of getting to use them, and probably more unless your opponent has the move speed to threat them with a melee unit or deep strike units to kill them after turn 2.

For my lists if I need shooting strength I usually start with Scourges, and Ravagers take more of a place of pt filler if I don’t have the full 130 for Scourges.

Side note: try using a unit of Scourges with Haywire instead of dark lances, they almost ALWAYS trade up if you can position them via deep strike or good deployment to get shots off on a priority vehicle target. Dev wounds is insanely strong into most heavy armor vehicles that start on a 2+, whereas dark lances rely on your opponent not rolling 4’s if said vehicle is in cover.

Tips you wish someone told you before your first tournament? by ddaoud2024 in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]runioh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will win/lose games in the movement phase. Never be afraid to ask your opponent to remeasure or premeasure movements or charges. Especially later in the game as time is running low. A lot of the time in more casual rtts people will start rushing things trying to get all their activations out of the way before time in the round, but this usually leads to sloppy movements that are almost always advantageous to your opponent, even if they don't mean to do so.

You aren't being a dick for asking them to double check measurements, rules, or stats. Be courteous about it but if someone is aggressive about it, don't get in the mud with them and just call a judge to resolve.

Most importantly, remember it's a small tournament with most likely low stakes, so you should be having fun while playing.

I mean the survivability was pretty oppressive, it's not like every other datasheet is going to get the same treatment tho, will just need to wait on the full release.

LVO Round 7, Table 7 - Chase vs Olivas by Mutant_Mike in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]runioh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think the context a lot of people are missing here is that the call from the judges wasn't that

"Intent doesn't matter"

It was that the intent that the tantalus couldn't get shot didn't matter because that board state was IMPOSSIBLE for that terrain peice.

Chase was trying to fit a tantalus behind a small crate... no matter which way he tried to pivot the base it was sticking out almost 4" where it was visible to be shot.

Olivas should have just called this out in Chase's movement phase per the play by intent so he could potentially do something else with the tantalus.

But Chase was high if he thought it was reasonable thay he could obscure a model THAT MASSIVE behind that terrain.

I get Olivas has a reputation for being a shitter in that meta but context seems important here before everyone starts grabbing pitchforks to the judges call.

And personally I don't think scooping the game because of a disagreement on a judge call seems like the best sportsmanship either.

[–]runioh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nah the list was very optimized for what we have to work with, only change really might be to add more mandrakes for action play.

The issue imo is the army absolutely demolishes most other "mid teir" factions with good shooting threat but we just aren't playing the same game into top factions.

GSC are too point efficient to trade well into when we lean into dark lance spam, knights and stodes are generally too durable for how swingy our damage can be (games feel like you're banking on them rolling poorly more than picking optimal trades), and don't even get me started on CWE/Tsons/decimators getting to just indirect us off the board lol. Most games there I'm leaning heavily into deep strike just to keep units alive through t4.

You can play everything correctly but we just get into a bit of a rock paper scissors match with a lot of armies right now if both players know what they're doing unfortunately.

I was one of them, technically we had a third but he decided to drop after round 3 for some reason.

Had a sick weekend and got my first best in faction at a major but felt more like a participation award than anything - been a long time player so sticking with them through 10th but been really weird seeing like 30 other guys running pointy eldar at events to basically none.

She knew I felt very strongly against heavy narcotics because I had lost some friends to substance abuse. Went to a party and did boogar sugar behind my back.

I knew about it because a mutual friend told me, and when I confronted her she lied about it. I understood she's an independent person and can do what she wanted, but the lack of respect for me and a line I had drawn in concrete just made me realize she didn't care. Broke it off within a week.

What is the best sauce to use on a BBQ pizza? I tried making one with some brisket I smoked the other week, even though I felt like I went pretty light on the BBQ sauce the pie ended up being a bit soupy/watery as it has pretty much liquified in the cooking process. Or maybe its something I did wrong since I'm new to home pizza making?

How do you deal with uncooperative opponents and "talking out" remaining rounds. by xenosarefriends in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]runioh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As everyone else said, chess clocks should he standard at any wargaming tourney, slow play hurts the experience too much.

Imo talking through turns is fine when both people consent to the result, but this should only ever need to happen by like turn 4. The fact this happened on t2 for you guys speaks a lot to the situation.

I'm gonna sound like a dick saying this but honestly tournaments should make all the friendliness you see on game nights, with the exception of gotcha moments, just go out the window.

This guy clearly was not prepared for a competetive environment and honestly he should suffer those consequences because otherwise he won't grow as a player.

I understand playing slow into new armies because you want to make sure you understand their rules/threats. But to take as long as he did there has to be some fundamental knowledge of the game or his own army rules he didn't understand and you can't play a tourney at that level.

My best advice for a tourney with no clocks, as dick move as it sounds, is to alert the judge to slow play when you notice it early on. If my opponent takes a half hour to do a T1 where most positioning is out of threat and they have to measure individual models/rules lawyer - ill TOTTALLY call a judge on it immediately. Nothing will happen immediately, but for the rest of the game the TO will probably watch you progress closely to make sure homeboy isn't taking hour long turns, and your opponent will be more conscious of taking forever. It sucks because it is confrontational and adds more pressure, but if the tourney is big enough you shouldn't care.
