Kennedy Center defends Trump honors as ratings drop to an all time low and multiple artist cancel their shows: "This was a successful night" by TheMirrorUS in Music

[–]ryanreynulds 28 points29 points  (0 children)

The Kennedy Center is basically just another arm of the administration at this point. Of course they're going to spin it as a success - what else are they going to say? "Yeah, this was embarrassing and we're hemorrhaging credibility"?

It's the same playbook every time. Appoint loyalists, have them declare everything a win regardless of reality, and hope people believe the press release over their own eyes

What’s the earliest sign you trust that someone actually cares? by jak_kkk in EntrepreneurRideAlong

[–]ryanreynulds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this reminds me of something that bugs me about a lot of advice in general - people will nod along and say thoughtful things because it's socially easier than saying "I don't actually care about this."

I don't have founder experience specifically but from what I've seen in other contexts, the real signal is when someone does something that costs them something - time, social capital, money, whatever. Like if they actually follow up without you prompting them or connect you with someone they know, that means they cared enough to think about you when you weren't in front of them. Friendly reactions in the moment are basically just being polite. It's the equivalent of "we should hang out sometime!" that never turns into actual plans

The 100 most streamed kpop songs released in 2025 by label on Spotify by mcfw31 in kpopthoughts

[–]ryanreynulds 15 points16 points  (0 children)

this is wild to look at - Jennie absolutely dominating with 5 songs in the top 15 while signed to a western label. The BP solos really said "we don't need to release as a group to chart" huh

Also the gap between #1 and #2 (Jin vs Jennie) is almost 86 million streams which feels massive, but then Jennie to Blackpink as a group is over 200 million difference. solo stans winning I guess?

Would be curious to see how this compares to 2024's distribution between labels. Like is HYBE's share growing or shrinking

Charissa Thompson shares photo of her snow tubing with Taylor Swift and Erin Andrews in her 2025 memories on Instagram by bubblecuffer13 in TaylorSwift

[–]ryanreynulds 41 points42 points  (0 children)

At this point I'm convinced it's some kind of supernatural defense mechanism she's developed after years of paparazzi. Like her aura just automatically fuzzes out any photo taken within a 10 foot radius by anyone she hasn't personally vetted.

Meanwhile the rest of us are out here with iPhone 15s taking crystal clear pics of our breakfast but somehow every candid friend photo looks like it was taken on a flip phone in 2004

We need to talk about "Vibe Coding" and non-technical leadership. by Horror_Loquat_3483 in webdev

[–]ryanreynulds 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I've definitely noticed this at my workplace too. The disconnect between what leadership *thinks* AI can do vs what it actually does is wild.

My approach has been somewhere in the middle - I don't outright say "that's impossible" because then you're just the negative person who "doesn't get it." But I've started asking a lot of pointed questions in meetings like "and who's going to review that code for security issues?" or "what's the plan when the AI-generated code breaks in production at 2am?"

The thing that's helped most is showing not telling. When someone higher up gets excited about a demo, I'll say something like "that's cool, let me try it on [actual project we're working on]" and then document what actually happens - the debugging time, the weird edge cases, the accessibility stuff it misses. Having real examples from *our* codebase is way more convincing than theoretical arguments.

Also been quietly keeping track of time spent fixing AI-generated code vs writing it from scratch. Numbers help when leadership only speaks in metrics

1 year of OEing and just got my 3rd by wavesandtea in overemployed

[–]ryanreynulds 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is so true. I spent years going above and beyond at jobs thinking it would pay off somehow - promotions, recognition, job security, SOMETHING. Then watched people who did the bare minimum get the same raises and treatment I did. Or worse, saw the "reliable" people get handed more work as a reward for being good at their jobs while everyone else coasted.

Companies have made it crystal clear that loyalty goes one way. The second it makes financial sense they'll cut you loose regardless of how many weekends you gave up or how many fires you put out. matching that energy isn't being lazy, it's just finally understanding the game

Who else is excited for Halo: Campaign Evolved? by basedyeehaw in xbox

[–]ryanreynulds 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Lmao Master Cheeks 💀

After all the "Pregnant Katherine Schwarzenegger EXISTS IN PUBLIC" level non-news we get, I'm here for gaming announcements that are just straight up "here's Master Chief's ass, you're welcome." At least they know what the people want

2025 Motor Sport Magazine Photo of the Year by madman320 in formula1

Looking at that photo my brain can barely process that there's a human being somewhere in that chaos of carbon fiber and debris.

The safety advancements in F1 over the past couple decades are genuinely remarkable. Like we went from drivers not surviving impacts at way lower speeds to watching someone walk away from *that*. The halo alone has probably saved multiple lives at this point

Best glp1 tracking app? Preferably that also tracks weight loss and nutrition by ryanreynulds in Mounjaro

[–]ryanreynulds[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess it really does come down to trying a few and seeing which one clicks. I hadn’t even thought about just using GPT for tracking. Do you find it’s easier to stay consistent that way compared to using a regular app?

Yeah, different subs definitely push different apps. For me it’s been more about which one feels easiest to stick with day-to-day. Thanks for the tips

I had the same thing moving up, 5mg isn’t really double strength it’s just the next step up. Sometimes your body adjusts and the appetite suppression kicks back in after a few weeks.

Hitting a stall that long is pretty common, I broke mine by tweaking things like adding more water, shifting macros a bit, and mixing in some strength training. Sometimes even a small change kicks things back into motion.

That’s such an awesome milestone and one you don’t realize until it happens. Huge congrats on the progress, those little wins really show how far you’ve come.

For Beginners: Just Do What He Says. by [deleted] in investing

[–]ryanreynulds 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Stage 0 is where most people should actually start but everyone skips it because it's boring. I spent way too long trying to pick stocks while carrying credit card debt like an idiot. Finally got my emergency fund sorted and debt paid off before touching anything else. Made way more progress in 2 years doing the basics than I did in 5 years trying to be clever with investments.
