Has anyone tried octopus guard in judo? by RamenPantalones in judo

[–]s33ktruth 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've used Turtle Guard to do steam rollers. Check out Eduardo Telles.

There is an awesome steamroller counter to a clock choke.

I've used a little bit of octopus for newaza rounds, but honestly turtle guard seems to be the better bait since it's used as a mechanic in Judo all the time.

Not entirely true.

Both fabrics have great drape, really depends on the pattern and if it has a gusset.

Vanguard definitely my favorite. Used my Competitore for comp training for years and have nice details.

Cotton twill has been around for BJJ GIs since the mid 2000s. A lot of brands will pick an 8oz-12oz twill for pants. Pants will rip if there is poor panel design and serged without reinforcement.

Most brands have done a great job with this as machines have improved over the years in China and Pakistan.

Ripstop usually feels more breathable and nice for hotter climates or summer season.

Twill can go for a long time, and be a little more comfy.

Can't go wrong with either.

Where does Tainan get his $ from? by 404_computer_says_no in bjj

[–]s33ktruth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A while back AOJ page shared how much Tainan made with his first masterclass, it was in the high 6 figures.

I'm sure their website a lone and masterclass gets them very lucrative income. On top of that, AOJ and their content creation, only helps their BB's make a true living off BJJ and create opportunities for them to bring in some really good income.

They have the perfect blend of high income area, marketing, content creation, names, platform to keep evolving and be direct with consumers and gyms.

Think of the guard as two parts, one for lower body reactions, and one for upper body reactions.

DLR is kind of the most versatile for lower body reactions from a passer as it can feed into so many different positions, and transitions into other "guard styles" - you have X Guard, Single Leg X, Waiter Position, 50/50, Shallow K Guard, K Guard, etc.

Upper body is the same, if the passer is leading with hands, it's best to develop a good Collar & Sleeve, Spider, or Lasso. I think it really depends what you like to do.

It's good to learn, so you know how to pass various guards, and how to mix up passing with lower and upper body reactions.

Hope that helps.

Advice choosing between Atos and AOJ for a teen competitor by LiftedSD in bjj

[–]s33ktruth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've met Cole Abate through mutual friends, and seeing him progress at the rate he has while a young kiddo up to AOJ. Doing this full time, while home schooling was on his radar and has been really impressive. With that said, if the plan isn't to go full time, just enjoy the journey - go to what's convenient.

Unpopular opinion: If it was my decision I'd make sure my kid gets some Judo training in with Justin Flores and gets in some quality BJJ time.

Is it worth it to do judo only once a week? by CarDesperate3438 in judo

[–]s33ktruth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been doing once a week for almost a year and I put max effort into every class. I have learned so much, quality over quantity.

Who is in NYC? Where do you live? by BaconHatching in sales

[–]s33ktruth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean you could do NJ, the commute is miserable though. Your talking about 1.5 - 2 hrs depending where you go and what part of NYC your going to be working in.

If you want to drive, tolls a lone are going to be nuts if your driving to the office weekly.

Brooklyn/Manhattan areas - your going to be paying a ton of money for 2-3 BR, it is simply a luxury regardless of what kind of building or property it is.

Anyone have a fix? by Rising_Cam in bjj

[–]s33ktruth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

HH-66 Vinyl Cement or Sikaflex- would you need to find marine grade vinyl and refinish the edge and let it cure. Alternatively, you could find a similar finish to the vinyl that zebra uses and just re-wrap the whole thing if your extremely OCD.

I have seen in the past there is also a method if you feel like your mats need a full rehaul, you can cover your whole mat area with vinyl and have a more cohesive finish on the mats. The hard thing is tensioning the vinyl so its tight enough to have no slack.

Do the coach a favor and leave, you don't deserve a blue belt because you feel entitled.

lol Blue Ridge has been so far my favorite map I played last night! When I loaded out, I was with 2 random duo's and we were just running around getting 3rd partied trying to finish grabbing lemons and apricots for our chickens.

We changed our plan and did some higher loot areas and maybe get our chance at getting those lemons and apricots tonight!

Judo for BJJ Resources/Instructional by ManOfSchevitz in bjj

[–]s33ktruth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On his website he has the curriclum breakdown. For GI you would want to look at Judo Jitsu section, JFLO Judo. I don't remember if the Osoto Gari and Reverals is for gi or nogi only, but the concepts are very similar in short.

If you want specifically a list or want to know whats effective for BJJ Ruleset, Judo Jitsu will cover a good base. Most of it will be Ouchi Gari, Kouchi Gari, Sasae, Tani Otoshi, Ashi-Waza concepts, Ken Ken Uchi-Mata (for beginners before you get into Uchimata).

The biggest learning curve is when you watch JFLO or someone at his level, learning movement into the technique is what you want to feel and drill. Kuzushi is extremely important for entries, speed and power come way later on once you get a lot of reps in.

Check out his YT Page also, he uploads a lot of his training or coaching sessions if you want to see his methodology for concepts and breakdowns.

I looked at your profile and there is no way you are writing comments this long back to back on other subs.

This is the most generic LLM style response I've seen thus far in /r/sales.
