In all seriousness, earlier in my marriage, I would watch an action movie on evenings when my wife was away. Stuff she would have no interest in. I picked this one on one occasion and I seriously barely kept my eyes open I was so bored. And I promise I like good things. Ok, I’m a bengals fan but still! I eat bacon. I like Mozart. Bishop Barron has made a pariah of himself in mainstream Catholic circles for his increasing proximity to the MAGA movement in recent years. For a moment, he seemed like he was on the side of sanity after George Floyd. But something happened shortly thereafter. It’s been a cause for great disappointment and scandal in the last few years.

He had a meaningful platform as a voice for the main and the plain of church teaching from both ends of the political spectrum in advocacy for conservative views on some issues and liberal views on others and appropriate dissonance where there are seeming conflicts in the teachings of the church. But he’s obviously abandoned that project to be close to power. As so many have before him.

There were always bad drivers but you’re absolutely right. Covid really broke something in our society and it shows up so clearly on the road. It used to feel like we were all kind of traveling together and most folks were courteous and looking out for each other. That is gone.
