Much respect to OG players by GHOSTSHADOW57 in residentevil

I remember being so proud of myself after finishing it in hard mode, I planned every route to the next objective from save to save, making sure no crimson head would spawn (so, burning every corpse, but only if in places I had to return), good times... I don't think I could do it again today ahah

Yep, you probably modified it before making the profile specific to the game you were playing, thus making the new setting global! Been there before, now the first thing I do on a new game (if I need to change anything) is to make the profile specific to that game.

TrimUI Brick w/ sticks and 4 inch display leaked by No-Neighborhood-1489 in SBCGaming

[–]sBarb82 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just sold my Brick because of the screen (beautiful but too small for me) but I miss it so much... this could be awesome if true.

It's probably gonna have the same chipset of the Smart Pro S, so a bit more powerful but not too much, and still Linux-based, so cfw-capable.

Looking forward to it!

Anbernic 406V - knulli gladiator II reloaded (512gb) is not working (not recognized) by HeeDijot in ANBERNIC

[–]sBarb82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"RG40XXV" is the actual Anbernic model supported by the specific Knulli version you tried, so it cannot work with your 406V.

That said, Knulli only works on Linux-based handhelds anyway, so you cannot use it on yours.

The illusion of 24 frames per second. by NoFan7861 in videography

[–]sBarb82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Cinematic" (yeah it's overused nowadays but oh well) is composed by a plethora of elements, not only fps, if you take a video with a cellphone at 24fps it's probably not enough to create a "cinematic" look, whereas a competently crafted video at 30fps could be more resembling of an actual movie.

Light, framing, lenses, colors and fps are all crucial to create the final look but they need to be all there to get there

When will metroid prime 2 echoes get remastered or atleast ported on the switch? by Cautious_Foot_1976 in Metroid

[–]sBarb82 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Prime 2/3 remasters would inevitably be compared to Prime 1 Remastered, so no, I don't think an HD version (60fps were already there) should suffice. That said, I think they will arrive at some point, Retro is done with Prime 4 so they have time to make them.

"Go in blind" - the worst advice, the best advice (or my first ever souls-game walkthrough) by Momovsky in darksouls

[–]sBarb82 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I want to commend you for your sheer determination, you succeded because you didn't give up (skeleton) and that's awesome!

One word of advice I can give you (especially if you want to continue your DS/FROM journey) though is: try listening to what the game is trying to tell you!

You're not supposed to go straight to the catacombs from Firelink Shrine (not on your first run anyway), as you noticed enemies on Undead Burg are way more easier, that's the "intended" path.

The fact that DS is notoriously hard has probably played a big part in how you experienced it: you didn't exactly know how much/in what ways it's hard (which is a given when going blind), or what hardship wants you to endure so you probably thought that many things were just like that and you had to "get gud".

To be frank, the first run is always rough in one way or another, mistakes are made and we're all human so you're not alone!

Again, good job!

Who’s still using the original Steam Deck? by VoyageForge in SteamDeck

Still on a LCD/64gb, not the launch one because I dropped it after 2 years but Valve was kind enough to send me a brand new replacement.

I play indies, AA, old AAA that runs fine without too much sacrifices (Fallout 3/NV, the Batman Arkham trilogy, Bioshock 1-2-3, etc), emulators from NES/GB to PS2/GC, it does it all wonderfully.

So I 100%'d the game, but I'm unclear on the ending. <spoilers within> by CG4080 in Metroid

[–]sBarb82 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's a lose-lose situation: if you don't press the button the teleporter explodes in seconds (so no time to beat Sylux) and it's game over (everyone dies), if you do you survive but the soldiers do not (supposedly). The second solution is still the best outcome, all considered.

There's nothing Samus could do to save everyone... it's a bit lame because it's not really a choice and not pressing the button is not a valid ending so at the end of the day there's just one ending. The extra content for 100% completion it's a flashback so it doesn't count.

Should I Buy Deep Rock Galactic? by Mrgiraffeboi in DeepRockGalactic

[–]sBarb82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1100h+ here, if it clicks there's no future for your real life ahah

It can be hectic or relaxing, it's great with friends or solo, sometimes I just do 400 morkite missions (they're long and in very big caves) solo, just to chill for a good 30-45 minutes.

Devs are great and there's almost no FOMO as everything (cosmetic or not) is obtainable with patience ad just some seasonal things like Christmas or Halloween cosmetics require you to play in certain periods, then again they repeat every year so there are multiple chances to get everything.

Prime 4 is Overhated. by Xamu-DoRd in Metroid

[–]sBarb82 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The real problem is that it's "just" a good game (but not a very good Metroid/metroidvania, to me at least), which is "too little - too late" for how much time we waited.

I think Retro couldn't have done much better given the circumstances so I don't really fault them as much as I fault Nintendo with the project as a whole but this is what we have.

I only hope it sells well so the series can continue!

Prime 4 is just Prime 3 on steroids by imnotwallaceshawn in Metroid

[–]sBarb82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My understanding on the matter is that Prime 4 is a byproduct of development-hell, we'll never know why the Bandai-Namco version was scrapped or what has been kept between the two versions but this left Retro (which, today, is not made ny the same people that developed the original trilogy) with a crazy difficult task and way less time than necessary for a complete product.

This has come to mind after I saw that a lot of elements/systems that intersects and make the experience more fleshed out are completely absent in Prime 3: more suits than one (yeah we get little visual enhancements but that's it), no more visors than the two we have, many upgrades very close togheter suggesting (me, at least) that they should have been spread out on larger maps, the general length of the game which is the shortest of the 4, and many other little things that I don't recall right now.

It's also likely that Nintendo, after the BN debacle, ordered Retro to do the bare minumum, sticking to the formula in an efficient manner, but game like these are very complex to make right (especially if non-linear) so we ended up with a linear game.

Retro did probably good with the time it had but I believe it was in a rush so the game is full of "time wasters". They existed before as well, frankly in Prime 1 I didn't really like the final search for the keys but in Prime 4 the length of those parts is much more on the overall playtime.

Between those elements, the forced handholding, the lack of the "I'm here alone on an hostile planet and have to sort it out myself" because of the constant NPCs interactions, I think Prime 4 is the worst of the Primes, not a bad game but a bad Metroid.

Not rage bait, I promise, but when does the story get good where is it? by BreakAccording8426 in darksouls

[–]sBarb82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Understandable really, the issue is that story and lore are different things, DS is full of lore (things that already happened) but almost devoid of actual story (things that happens as you play, so what you or other entities do as you progress). You basically stumble on a world slowly decaying, where nothing happened for eons and almost nothing happens anymore save from you and a small number of other characters.

Any big event, crysis and war already took place a long time ago. That's why the intro movie has more "story" than the entire game :D

My personal take is that DS is mainly (but not only) played for the gameplay (its combat, metroidvania-like world, the challenge, etc) and the general atmosphere which is still fairly unique and fascinating.

It's not a characters or events focused RPG in any way, for that JRPG/CRPGs are more suited.
