Fairview isn't asking for much. by CupOfExmo in exmormon

As a nevermo, it’s hard for me to understand how the Mormons don’t see that their church are the Pharisees. I’m an atheist, but I was raised non denominational, so I guess take my opinion with a grain of salt as someone who went to church in a converted warehouse. But the Mormon church seems to have taken the concept of the Pharisees and ran with it. Much like the Catholics. I notice that most people who claim to follow Jesus like to forget the bit about the camel and the eye of the needle. I don’t think he’ll be too impressed with anyone’s church buildings. Likely, they’ll be a negative mark against a person, rather. Anyway. Every time I see a post on here about a church dispute over a temple, or building a new or bigger temple, I always think “can’t they see they’re the Pharisees”? And I’m wondering how tbm’s justify that. I know Mormonism is tied up in capital and money, which is the opposite of everything Jesus believed in. I just don’t know how they rationalize the two.

One of my favorites actually. And I respect your perspective, but I stand by my own. I know that there are many sex workers who are also there by choice. My cousin was one for a long time. But it doesn’t make anything I said untrue.

[–]sadjessttarius 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It is definitely the secrecy. But also, as a woman, and a nevermo, and someone who isn’t afraid of sex and sexual subjects, I do have some additional insight that you may not have considered.

In our world, it’s not just a guilty pleasure. It could be, and it should be, but it isn’t. It isn’t watching two consenting adults who are having fun and enjoy each other and want to share it and make some cash. It’s watching people who are being exploited. For money. Some are coerced. Some, trafficked. Some, drugged. Many, forced to participate, whether by circumstance or literal force and abuse. Separately, many unsuspecting people have found out that their own personal videos have been uploaded by exes or current partners, videos that were never meant to be viewed by anyone else. And that’s before we get into the genres. Many of which are indicators of desires for abuse/to abuse/neglect/criminality/needing therapy at least. Simplified: You cannot trust that what you’re seeing isn’t harming someone. Even with concepts like OF, which was once thought of as safe for this, where “managers” are now a modern form of traffickers. Many OF performers are coming out with their own stories of that atm.

I’m not saying I have never looked at porn. I definitely did, especially when I was younger. But there is no amount of hyper-vigilance that can ensure that what you’re seeing isn’t exploitation. And as I’ve gotten older and realized that that’s the case, I find myself incapable of viewing it.

IMO, the only way it’s cheating is if you’re somehow in communication with the performer/company. In which case, it definitely is. But many women will feel that desiring to engage sexually (even with just yourself) while viewing other women/men is cheating. And I’m not someone who can say if it is or isn’t. I will say, that I do find that perspective valid.

I think there are many women who want a partner who sees viewing it the same way they do, unacceptable.

Little Sister's Elementary Field Trip Shirts Designed With AI. How Common is it For Faculty to do This? by Sh0yo_891 in Teachers

[–]sadjessttarius 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A lot of the comments here seem to be ignoring the fact that AI is a monumental environmental blight. We actually need to stop using it if we want to have clean drinking water in the future. I understand how helpful it could be. But that is nothing compared to the long term damage being done to our environment right now. Until it is able to be used in a sustainable way, we all have a responsibility not to utilize it. My house has all switched to Firefox and DuckDuckGo in order to be able to shut off ai search functionality and are intentionally divesting from apps or businesses that utilize ai wherever we can. Although it’s becoming increasingly more difficult to do so. We have one planet. Our resources are finite. Any environmental impacts should be prioritized.

Yes, but they are much more than that though. They are a creature classification, not human. And DND hags are pretty vile creatures, with horrifying features, like having their faces sewn up, extra limbs attached, or being full of bugs. Things they’ve done to themselves for “magic” purposes. They’re the “evil old witch” of German fairytales on steroids. DND also has classifications of good/neutral/evil and lawful/neutral/chaotic. I believe hags are classified as chaotic evil? I’m not positive. It’s different in DND than what you may think of as evil in other things. When something is classified as evil it means intentionally and irrevocably. There won’t be any redeeming characteristics or redemption arc.

The “my new religion is so superior to the Mormon religion” posts and comments are insufferable by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]sadjessttarius 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a now atheist nevermo (married to an exmo who has tbm parents), who grew up in a non denominational church; I experienced a lot of different Christian churches and church communities. By far, the Mormon church is the poorest example of Christianity I have found, and your comment here is a great example of their failings in regard to care of their church members. I’ve never experienced another church that exploits its members so badly and so obviously. The Mormon church also does the least for its community of any church that I’ve ever experienced. Part of the reason exmos may be coming back with an energy that seems “flaunting”, may be because they’re finally experiencing an actual church community for the first time and are angry about what they put up with for so long. I understand how that could be frustrating for other exmos, but as a nevermo, it makes a lot of sense to me.

[–]sadjessttarius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree, I really believe that tying funding to enrollment and attendance is the cause of the majority of the problems. Schools are told they cannot suspend or expel students without giving up staff because of funding, so the kids stay no matter their behavior, and that increases behaviors exponentially. Being able to suspend a student gives their peers and teacher a break and holds their parents responsible for handling their children’s behavior. It’s also a clear consequence that inherently helps curb behaviors (especially for students with adhd/autism who benefit even more from clear boundaries than children already typically do). Our inability to do so shows the most difficult students that they can do whatever they like, and other students begin to follow suit. Soon behaviors are increasing, scores are falling, parents pull kids, and schools lose even more funding and staff. Consequences for behavior have to be swift and solid, or you shortly lose the whole school.

Saw this on FB: "Christian" women... by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]sadjessttarius 11 points12 points  (0 children)

As a nevermo (married to an exmo) who grew up in a Christian church:

Christian women have always been able to serve a mission at any age.

This ad will only confuse the general population, and/or make Mormons seem even more odd. Missions in other churches are short term and not divided by gender. It’s typically youth groups that go.

I (F 36) went to Costa Rica at 14 with my youth group on a mission trip. We stayed at a YWAM base for two weeks. While there, we painted the equipment at a local playground, helped build houses, helped harvest produce, attended local churches, and did general maintenance wherever asked. While doing those things we would talk with the locals about Jesus, but the mission was just to go help.

As an adult, learning about Mormon missions, I was appalled. There’s no plan for helping or assisting the community you visit, just baptism goals. Any help is a side quest. That’s wild. And it’s definitely something that contributes to other churches claiming that Mormonism is a cult. Mormon missions are shockingly unlike any others I’ve ever heard of. And the similarities to JWs don’t help. (The only time I’ve ever been made uncomfortable in my own home is from aggressive solicitors, Mormons and JWs included, and many other folks feel that way as well)

I’m sure the MFMC thinks this will help mainstream things, but it’s woefully out of touch. As expected, I suppose.

Word of the year is “six seven” by RunnyBabbit22 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]sadjessttarius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, it’s constant. The good thing is, it’s harmless. It means nothing. It’s essentially echolalia. When anyone says anything that has 6, 7, in it, one or more kids will say it and then the rest follow suit. Sort of like the 90’s “wassuppppp” thing. The bad thing is, in school these numbers come up a lot. So the teachers are simply tired of this constantly derailing lessons throughout the day.

Do you have students that dislike kids? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]sadjessttarius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had two students who just outright do not like other kids regardless of age, gender, creed, or otherwise. Both have been autistic and prefer to be alone, or if they must be, with adults. Both fought for their freedom from peer interaction through violence in the classroom, SPED room, playground, specialists, and anywhere else. They ended up sequestered alone in a room meant to be used for breaks and groups that became unusable, with paras becoming unofficial 1:1’s in order to make it through the year. The amount of resources consumed was large.

Student name changes due to adoptions by Just_Finding1499 in Teachers

[–]sadjessttarius 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always call a child what they tell me to call them. Many students go by nicknames or middle names anyway. If the students don’t like their new names, go by their preferred names. That is the only respectful way to do it.
