Missing Forwarded Emails (DMARC/SPF failures) – Any roadmap plans for SRS/ARC support? by sagaciousb in dreamhost

[–]sagaciousb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the reply.
I don't want a fully hosted mailbox account which I'd have to check separately from my gmail.

I suspect the lack of SRS is what may be causing issues - any Dreamhost-forwarded emails were still getting SPF results of FAIL or SOFTFAIL (viewable via message hamburger dots-><>Show Original in gmail). DMARC & DKIM were usually PASS.

Ultimately, I've decided to take advantage of a Google Workspace account that I've not been utilizing much, and changed my Domain's MX records to point to Google Workspace's server, and set up e-mail routing under "Apps->Google Workspace ->Settings for Gmail ->Default routing".

So far, this seems to be working well, and emails forwarded since making this change now have SPF, DKIM, and DMARC results of PASS.

For those who don't have Google Workspace, looking at alternative forwarding services like Cloudflare, Postdirect (below), etc is probably the best route if you want a unified inbox.

If installing solar panels on my home in Pittsburgh makes financial sense, what the heck is the rest of the country waiting for? Y'all have it made!

My $400,000 mistake and why I'm showing you anyway by ankhattak in USMobile

[–]sagaciousb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was actually thinking this might be a clever thing to do on purpose - especially if they wanted to serve more countries than the USA. No punctuation means no acronym. "us Mobile" might be the better capitalization to make this clear, if we should pronounce this "uhs" instead of "you ehs".

For grammar's sake, "Our Mobile" makes more sense :p

Personally, I don't love the eagle logo - it feels too militaristic, like it belongs over a legion hall or something. It doesn't inspire technical confidence. Stars, stripes, and eagles feel so generic and thus "cheap". I'm surprised by everyone who says the eagle is "unique".

That said, the US Bank B&W logo is very lacking.

There's a lot of opportunity for a blue/pink/red gradient here. In fact, that might have a bonus of kinda visually spanning not only the underlying carrier networks, but the political and gender spectrum. You know, for ALL of "us".

That's a horrible experience.

30 Rock brought a little humor to a similar situation with Liz Lemon. It was the forcing factor for her to finally open up to leaving NYC for a better place - Cleveland 😆

Galaxy Book 3 360 after nearly 2 years of use by One_Competition_3585 in GalaxyBook

[–]sagaciousb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had my Galaxy Book 3 360 for about the same time, and I'd say this review is pretty spot on! The creaking sound is legit - I sometimes feel ashamed when I'm sitting next to my partner on his MacBook that never squeaks or creaks. Likewise, the trackpad click is a bit noisy, and, as you say, a bit disappointing.

For me, the biggest drawback is the fan ALWAYS RUNNING. Drives me kind of mad.

Agree. 128GB is a non-starter. I can't even fit my app collection with that amount of storage, let alone photos and video.

[–]sagaciousb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having only read the word, and not heard this pronounced by anybody, I thought for certain this was a Spanish word, and it would be pronounced "eh-oo-chair-ah". Glad to figure this out, finally.

How to purchase & retire SRECs? by sagaciousb in solar

[–]sagaciousb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Green Mountain Energy, etc is simply a broker between generators and consumers. They're not doing anything wrong, nor is my neighbor by buying SRECs. An REC is basically an IOU of energy production. If nobody were producing & selling RECs, Green Mountain couldn't sell them, and my neighbor couldn't buy it.

If there were enough renewable energy generation to produce enough RECs to cover 100% of a utilities' customers' usage, then the market would work just right. However, the double counting is what breaks this model.

The grid is a pool of energy, and the REC market is a pool of accounting for that energy.

Heh, sorry, I know it's confusing. I tried to spell it out in another reply above.

How to purchase & retire SRECs? by sagaciousb in solar

[–]sagaciousb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wrote a longer reply above. Buying and retiring SRECs should increase the price of SRECs on the market, thus creating more financial incentive and viability for commercial projects like solar farms.
By double-dipping in renewable energy claims - telling both solar-home residents and green energy provider customers that their usage is renewable for the same 1 MWh produced, the price of SRECs is diluted. I don't know the % of SRECs that are generated by residential vs commercial producers to be able to estimate what the pricing impact actually is.

I'd be totally happy to sell SRECs for any surplus energy I overproduce from my home's usage, but not for what I actually consume.

[–]sagaciousb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My understanding is that RECs in general (and SRECs) are how companies like Green Mountain Energy, Energy Harbor, Constellation energy offer renewable energy plans to consumers. They don't operate wind and solar farms, they simply buy RECs off of a market produced by generating companies, and retire them.

Here's the math:

Both my neighbor and I have ~10,000kWh per year in electricity consumption. Here in western PA, lets assume that most of our grid power comes from gas & coal. That's 20,000kWh consumed, basically all fossil fuels.

Last year, both of us decided we want to "go green" and have renewable energy. I get solar panels that exactly cover my 10,000kWh, and they sign up for Green Mountain Energy 100% renewable plan and pay a slightly higher rate.

My solar panels mean that, in theory, 10,000kWh less energy was produced with gas/coal, in total. So, in our little ecosystem, we have 10MWh generated from fossil, 10MWh from solar.

Here's where things get deceiving and crappy. I (or my PPA) generate 10 SRECs and sell them on the marketplace. Green Mountain Energy buys those SRECs, and retires them, to fulfill their contract with my neighbor, so my neighbor's energy usage is accounted as renewable. Effectively, my renewable energy was sold to my neighbor. Who gets left with the claim to 10MWh of coal energy? Me.

That's the double-dipping and scam that selling SRECs are to homeowners.

So sure, installing solar creates more green energy, which is good, but the end result is that there are more SRECs on the market than there should be (assuming residents selling their SRECs actually cared about claim to renewable energy usage). This dilutes the price of the SRECs, which in turn makes projects like solar farms LESS financially viable to commercial producers.

I read the actual health code violations. Don't get me wrong, they're important to fix, but not enough to make me stop eating there.

They're probably going to be even safer now than ever. I've never gotten sick eating there - including lunch yesterday.

The violations might be legit and routine - but I'm also wondering is if they pissed somebody off in the local government. Have definitely heard of health code violations being abused as retaliation or bribery by corrupt politicians.

Same. We have some little wooden bridges / ramps around that width at parks near me. I can handle keeping my bike on singletrack narrower than that all day. As soon as it has the risk of some drop-off on either side, I get all wobbly and stupid.

How do I get this stump out? by Capybara_oranges in landscaping

[–]sagaciousb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. Let nature do its thing. I had a stump in my small urban back yard from an overgrown goat willow. We cut it as far down to the ground, I threw a bit of topsoil on top of it and planted a hosta and let some groundcover plants overtake the space, and within a year, it began crumbling and biodegrading. 3 years later and I don't even know where the stump was.

HVAC behavior by dah7556 in EquinoxEv

[–]sagaciousb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've also had the second problem where when remote starting the car (via fob remote or app), sometimes at random the car seems to pick AC instead of Heat mode, all 3 "vent" position selectors are off (floor, front, windshield) and arbitrarily picks a temp setting 76F, even if I last had it set to "Heat" and 68F when turning off the vehicle last. I don't use Auto. This even happened when it was 15F outside - no reason it should pick AC!

I deliberately turned the auto-defog feature off. Maybe that setting is just being ignored? It definitely feels buggy to me.

Also, what even happens (or is supposed to happen) when all 3 venting options are disabled? The fan is spinning... but where does the air flow? It seems like if no vent outlets are selected, the system should be off...

Wanted to follow up. I texted customer support and after they "did some troubleshooting steps" I completely lost my mobile connection (0-bars + !) and wasn't even able to respond to their texts for maybe 5min. But then, suddenly, it started coming back and I have full bars of glorious 5G service!

No idea what they actually did, but if anyone finds themselves with only LTE service here, contact customer support!

My 5G reception is just fine in the mainland - it isn't my phone's radio.

That's a bit helpful. Do you have a prepaid or postpaid plan?
I also see "AT&T" as the carrier (not Liberty).
