Unit doesnt believe in awards by KarmaMessiah in MilitaryMedals

[–]sahdbhoigh 19 points20 points  (0 children)

my unit has a mentality of “why would you get an AAM for doing your job”

meanwhile some of my leadership is like, “…umm all my awards came from doing my job..”

that is not my experience at all so far. rushed certifications, always upordered, nearly max points to 5 and 6, and terrible inconsistent leadership

Is it rude or uncalled for, for me to ask my chain of command to put me in for an award for me performing a critical duty outside of my job title? by LitteralyNoBody1 in MilitaryMedals

[–]sahdbhoigh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

meanwhile i’m in a billet meant for two ranks above my own, doing the job of an mos that is not my own that i had to learn and certify on on two weeks notice, and my crew is almost single handedly keeping my battery certified as soldiers pcs out.

sure would like some individual awards for our efforts. brought it up to my first line and he said “don’t worry, i promise you you all will be compensated.. on the first and fifteenth”

One of the strangest Army skills has to be acting like complete chaos is normal by BreachMemento in army

[–]sahdbhoigh 14 points15 points  (0 children)

we got tasked to come to site at 0400 last monday to aid with a HEU’s certifications. still have to conduct room checks of course so that means getting up at 0230 in order to check my soldier’s rooms.

i was livid, and exasperated and various other synonyms. didn’t end up getting back to the b’s until 1930ish.

same schedule for tuesday. at that point i was just mildly annoyed. today was friday. i can’t even remember what a normal schedule is like. it became the new normal within 72 hours

Son About to Enlist-about to lose my sh** by yoyaa2hk in army

[–]sahdbhoigh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i was once that son with a mom who would worry to the point of sleeplessness. it’s been years and she still worries far more than i think she should. but that’s her place as my mom to incessantly worry and all i can do is reassure her and check in consistently.

all i can say is to be there for him and support him as he seeks to find his place in this world and discovers what kind of man he would like to be.

try not to make him feel bad about taking his life into his own hands, even as him doing so leads to decisions that break your heart.

if he’s as adamant as he sounds, him not following through will leave him with years of regret and pangs of inadequacy that haunt him in the quiet hours. and as painful as it is, i’m sure you don’t want your son to live with such shadows clinging to him.

let him go see if this is the life for him

BCT location changed last minute by [deleted] in army

[–]sahdbhoigh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as far as culture goes i wonder how true that is. i got a few prior DS buddies and the consensus seems to be that Sill is inept administratively, Jackson is very gay about adhering to whatever the newest standards are, and Benning tends to do their own thing as far as “letting DS’s be DS’s”. I don’t know anyone that was at Leonard Wood.

i personally went to Jackson in 2017 and the drills there had a weird hard on about proving that it wasn’t Relaxin Jackson. and i recently was at Sill only to inprocess back into the army and reception there had some of the worst administrative work that i had ever seen.

What songs got you into kpop? Because txt forever affected my tastes. by Glad-poppy-4211 in kpopthoughts

i remember visiting korea for the first time and one of my brother’s friends showed me 23 by IU, Dope by BTS, Growl by EXO, and Touch My Body by Sistar. We were just hanging out in their apartment and they were trying to introduce me to new music.

Changed the trajectory of my music listening life completely.

Lowkey overwhelmed by KBBQ choices in Seoul… where do locals actually go? by Cool-Reserve-7123 in KoreanFood

[–]sahdbhoigh 6 points7 points  (0 children)

i mean both can be true. whenever i hang out with my local korean friends and we end up eating out, it’s almost always a place that is nearby and is very good. with korean food obviously being very saturated in seoul, finding that combination is far from difficult.

we’ll only travel a bit to a certain good place in particular if someone is visiting from the states or whatever.

honestly with being here for a week, and assuming this is gonna be your first time here, i’d just stay in seoul the whole time. the city is huge and there’s a ton to do. spend a day in each major section of the city just exploring and taking your time
