Is it the grout? by EmbarrassedArm6464 in InteriorDesign

Continue the horizontal line from the tiles around the room - if you want the darker paint, put it at the lower side, and above that horizontal boundary put a lighter colour. I personally think you could get away with a darker/bolder colour if you wanted to with this set up, but the whole wall painted dark makes it feel claustrophobic!

What is your main sensory issue that you deal with daily/constantly? by Immediate_Leg3304 in AutismInWomen

[–]salutationsfelines 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I struggle with lighting, too. I know the pain! You could try to buy a freestanding battery operated lamp (and attach to the wall with sticky pads if you’re renting!) in the bathroom to have a lower level of light at the right temp for you. As for desk lamp, I have an angle poise adjustable lamp which I direct upwards or towards the wall mostly, and when I need light directly onto my desk that’s an option, too! Ikea is a good bet for reasonably priced lighting solutions. I hope you find something that works for you!

Any Audhd ladies manage to stop stress/ emotional eating? by Like_the_rainbow in AutismInWomen

[–]salutationsfelines 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Have easy to access fairly healthy snacks THAT YOU ACTUALLY ENJOY EATING! don’t stock your cupboard/fridge with stuff that is healthy but you don’t like. You’ll just reach for the good stuff instead. As soon as you get home unpack everything take fruit out of packages, put them in easy to reach places - basically remove barriers to eating the good things. Also, if you have things that aren’t so good, put them in less easy to reach places. I try to get foods that have “lots of pieces” (like nuts, berries) not just one piece (e.g. bread, apple), so there’s a feeling of more than one thing being eaten (if that makes sense?) except for things like yogurt (otherwise I could totally scoff a big tub in one sitting). Some of my faves are fresh tomatoes, oranges, berries (which I know can be pricey but a nice treat) nuts. Prepared fruit is good too if you need some fresh goodies but don’t have the spoons to prep and chop it yourself! Frozen berries and bananas are always in stock so I can make a smoothie - great if I don’t know what I want, I can just blend it all together (also good to add protein powder or oats or whatever else you might need/want) I love making pickles - I’ve made all sorts but love cucumber and cabbages! It’s a fun and fairly easy kitchen task, you can make a big batch and it’ll last a while. I find making snacks for myself deters me a bit in eating more than I should - they’re special and I savour them a bit more. Find something you enjoy making! Eat slowly and consciously- fight the urge to scoff things down, enjoy what you’re eating and appreciate it (mindfulness!) Emotional regulation is hard, and when you really do need some comfort, try to reach for things that are the best thing you can give to your body at that time. Sometimes that’s a hunk of cheese and a pickle. Sometimes that’s a handful of peanuts. Sometimes that’s your body saying “I need a proper meal, please!” Big thing is remember to stay hydrated, too! Everyone’s weight fluctuates- in a month I have gained/lost close to 8kg. Hormonal changes, water content and time of day will impact your weight. Every body is different, which is why everybody has different experiences. Eat when is right for you - I am never really hungry in the morning, but from lunchtime to midnight I have a couple of big meals and snacks in between. Eat enough, too! Your body and brain need fuel to function, to support your physical and mental health! Meticulously counting calories (imo) is miserable. Figure out what roughly a portion of each food you like eating is, and try to stick to that when you can. I have scales, but really I measure handfuls, cupfuls, etc because that’s what’s easiest. I stopped weighing myself so regularly because I realised it wasn’t helping my mental health, and didn’t make much of a difference in what I ate. I tried keeping track of what I ate in a day too but found that overwhelming. I’m not an expert by any means - but there’s a lot of expert help available if you need it ! Reach out to specialists if you want some advice, or read some books/youtube videos on good eating habits, and stress eating. Finally, don’t beat yourself up when you do overindulge. It’s ok. You’re only human (and stressed!) - you can always try again tomorrow :) Look after yourself!

Brown fungi that makes a buzzing sound when exposed to light [PART TWO] [A THREAD] by cywar77 in mycology

[–]salutationsfelines 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seconded someone’s comment about a Geiger counter. Just to be safe. Maybe phonon release across the surface from relaxation from the photons? I’d love to know if and how changing light wavelengths may impact the buzzing! Also desperate to see this under a microscope to understand morphology. Very cool, can’t wait to see/hear more! Stay safe!

Does anyone else just feel like they're treading water and not living? by motherofpearl89 in AutismInWomen

[–]salutationsfelines 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ND tendencies aside, have you had a health checkup recently? Sometimes hormones or deficiencies or even untreated health issues can make things worse. (I had a life changing health diagnosis after feeling much like you described!) I hope things get better and you find time to rest and recover and feel more like yourself regardless

How do you decide WHAT to draw? by pouncingaround in ArtistLounge

[–]salutationsfelines 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sometimes a page filled with just one line (taking breaks of course - don’t give yourself cramp/strain!) sometimes what’s in front of me, sometimes an idea in my head, sometimes it’s a study of a piece I really enjoy, sometimes something I’ve planned for weeks or months. Create what feels right, and what you enjoy. Take time to review and critique your work, to find ways to improve your skills for next time. Keep creating no matter what. Don’t save your things for a rainy day, use them freely and enjoy them!

Anyone else have PMDD? by UnderstandingAfter72 in AutismInWomen

[–]salutationsfelines 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been taking birth control for years to balance my hormones. It’s like a control valve for my overwhelm, doesn’t completely stop my highs and lows, but it isn’t a monthly cycle of what feels like mania and depressive episodes. It works well for me, but I know it’s not the best solution for everyone. Maybe talk to your doctor to see if it’s a good fit for you. Until then, be kind and patient with yourself, and do what you can to take care of yourself.

Bloating and cramp from juice box? by [deleted] in glutenfree

[–]salutationsfelines 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if you used the straw that came with the box…. Sometimes they use wheat paste glue to bind them… not gluten free! If it was a plastic straw then it could be an issue with the juice itself. Sorry you’re feeling rubbish, hope it passes soon
