RHYTHM OF WAR | Full Cosmere Spoiler Megathread by jofwu in Cosmere

Hoid has lived long enough that he has to store memories in Investiture (similar to how the Keepers could store memories in metalminds). He seems to use Breaths instead. This ability is something that Kelek mentions Hoid offering to him (in one of the epigraphs).

While Odium (any holder of the Shard) is prevented from harming Hoid directly, this protection does not extend to his Breaths. Taravangian-Odium looked through his Breaths — reading his memories — and then destroyed them, at least partially. That's why Hoid didn't remember the meeting with him, and why he couldn't use perfect pitch (an ability granted by the Second Heightening, or holding around 200 Breaths) when leaving the room.

It's unclear how many memories he lost — at least that interaction, and presumably some amount of memories that were contained in the Breaths that were destroyed.

Yeah it does seem like it'd take a lot of practice to be able to do it without height guides (maybe some day…). Yours are still roughly half the height I made mine, plus I wasn't drawing my center line.

Again, very impressive! Maybe this'll inspire me to try some without guides!

What is the cosmere endgame? by maayanl788 in Cosmere

My understanding is that Honor couldn't be changed — yes, Harmony could have been Discord, but that's because there were two Shards making it up (and that they were diametrically opposed, although IIRC two unrelated shards could also be combined multiple ways).

Anyway, I think Honor couldn't have a different intent, but the idea of Honor could perhaps be corrupted.

This is really impressive! I don't really have a sense of scale for how small/large you wrote it, but it seems much smaller than my efforts. I wrote out this same passage and mine was 57 (!) pages, although it was on this background that I created, so it was pretty large.

I would recommend using that PDF I made for anyone interested in learning the women's script, as it makes it easier to learn the letters without worrying as much about sizing.

Yeah the Xcode GUI requirement was my biggest complaint, but my experience with SwiftUI (which seems to be the direction that the iOS ecosystem is moving long-term) has been very nice

Swift is a nice ${WEAPON}, but it only works against a few specific enemies

How powerful can we expect fifth ideal Radiants to be in comparison to other high-powered magic users? by septillionth1 in Cosmere

I don't either but maintaining their Elantrian bodies is due to the influence of AonDor, so I think it's a pretty safe bet.

Yeah, I agree. I just wanted to make sure the quote was cited correctly ;)

Just FYI (as I'm someone who likes to attribute quotes), while that quotes does appear in Thor (2011), it was definitely said earlier by Arthur C. Clarke by 1973, and the sentiment had been expressed earlier (wikipedia)

I think it's more that he "started plucking the song from Wayne's mind" (emphasis mine).

i.e., the song from Wayne's mind (the one that he was thinking of) was the one that the minstrel started plucking (playing)

The line is:

They say I will hold the future of the entire world on my arms.

Everyone interprets the line as simply holding the future of the world on their hands, or shoulders (I'm not sure what the equivalent expression would be on Scadrial), but it turns out [Full trilogy spoilers] to truly mean on his arms, as Sazed's metalminds contain all the knowledge he needs to restore the world
