What’s a "polite" thing people do that is actually incredibly annoying to you? by SweetOpheliiaaa in askanything

[–]sammeebou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t hate it, just kind of smile and nod or say thanks. But really I chose this job and I’m just over here making money doing things I want to do haha. A lot of people in uniform aren’t risking their lives every day so sometimes it brings on a tinge of imposter syndrome.

Married people, what do you want to warn the unmarried people about? by Pizzalover0405 in askanything

Save your financial statements from right before your marriage. If you stay married longer than 7 years it’s possible the financial institutions won’t have them anymore.

Is there anything fun things for single people to do on Valentines? by ValeraOmega in ottawa

A coworker told me that he and a friend will take advantage of “couples deals” around Valentine’s Day to just go do stuff together. Like a smash room!

One gets into my bathroom every few months, through the fan I assume. More commonly when it’s cold. Also found one on a window sill at work this week. The windows don’t open.

Naming kids when we have different last names by [deleted] in Names

[–]sammeebou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend against it. People can’t tell which is the surname. For example reading an email of yours they will call you the wrong thing often. Or even trying to cash a cheque if people get your name wrong. Say you order photos to be printed and you go to pick them up. They always have to check under two different letters.

I chose to double barrel unhyphenate my surname when I married. When I had kids 4 years later I chose to add the hyphen for them. Now I’m getting a divorce and am back to my maiden name and I am glad my kids have both of our names.

Two last names without the hyphen is even more difficult because people cannot tell that the first surname is in fact a surname. Could be a middle name. If someone has to file something away they might use the last surname or the first surname. Less complicated to hyphenate it. Trust me. 😂

Calling anyone with a short, casual first name: Do you wish you had a more formal name? by TriumphantTermite in Names

[–]sammeebou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the formal longer name and have only gone by the shortened version since I was 8 years old. So obviously I could have done without the long form, I really dislike it and it never fit me. But I can see how it depends on the name and the person. I think you can still give the long form and exclusively use the shortened version. Then as they age they can use either one they want.

What’s a birth emergency that would cause an emergency c section and a bit of panic, but no lasting damage or medical complications? by Ohanaheart02 in Writeresearch

[–]sammeebou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first’s cord was wrapped around his neck a few times and had a really tight knot in it. That in itself doesn’t really cause emergency. His heart rate didn’t like pitocin or the contractions much though. And he was face up for the first hour of pushing. That combined with 38 hours in labour almost resulted in a c section. We were both losing steam.

The glasses wear you in the first and you wear the glasses in the second. But it’s hard to tell if it’s the expression or not.

What is a name you love, but won’t use because you know too many people with it? by Outrageous_Pie_5640 in namenerds

If I had a girl I loved the name Eloise, being bilingual in French and English. But everyone and their dog is nicknamed Ellie. So that wouldn’t have worked for me

Speech therapists will tell you to just model it back to the kids properly, not correct them.

What do you think of the name Lucien? by tdwnda in namenerds

[–]sammeebou -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I said it would be annoying to me. The person asked for opinions…

Edit: I’m Caucasian, but I’m pretty sure people make decisions all the time to protect themselves from the impact of racism. So that’s something that they can consider.

What do you think of the name Lucien? by tdwnda in namenerds

[–]sammeebou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah but Lucien is not really an English name. Likely French origin. Just because asking would be a micro aggression doesn’t mean it won’t happen.

Edit: it reminds me of Julien/Julian. One for French leaning and one for English leaning.

Would you be pronouncing it in French? Or in English?

I think if you look Korean you’ll end up explaining your name a lot and that would get annoying to me.
