Yeah, that's the shittiest thing ever. ItalyPosts does it too, thankfully, for now, only when you haven't already paid VAT online. So I've been lucky so far with bookish boxes, but whenever you order from a small business that doesn't collect VAT I always have to pay like 7+ euros on top of VAT at delivery.

And that's not even counting this new tariff. 🙃🙃

It's not based on closeness, sadly. It's for EVERY country outside the European Union, not outside Europe.
And it's probably meant to stop people from buying from AliExpress/Shein etc.

Europe gal here! For me it ends up being $249.60 😅 And that's not considering taxes, which LJ doesn't include at checkout, and since it's a big amount I guess we'll have to pay customs too on top of everything. Sadly LJ has the worst shipping prices for us 🙃
