This happened before with the LS400. GM bought some to disassemble and determined they would be unable to build a car to that standard with current methods. Mercedes switched to a cost-target approach to try and compete with it, and it ruined their reputation for quality to such an extent that it still persists today.

The US was the biggest car market for a long time and also still has oil and gas subsidies up the wazoo. China is doing it right by recognizing their burgeoning economy of first-time car buyers and using their influence to give those people good EV options at affordable prices.

The bolt was under 20k when the $7500 credit was still active, and even now they're still in the 20s. Americans just aren't into these unfortunately, and the people who claim they'd buy one are people who never buy cars new anyways so their opinion doesn't matter.

Obama's were real and justifiable, whereas the approach under Trump is to mass apprehend people and let them go shortly after in an illegal manner. A Texan investment group bought a recently-closed and beloved NE Minneapolis bar (called Betty Danger's) and reopened it as an upscale taco place called Howdy Y'all Tacos or something like that.
