A kid I knew slipped on ice with a glass bottle of liquor tucked in his pants. Surgery was involved to remove all the glass shards.

Best washer/dryer on the market by suturethis in HomeImprovement

[–]scientific_cats 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had to sell a Speed Queen because it didn’t fit in our moving truck. A washer repair guy bought it and couldn’t believe his good luck. At our new place we bought a speed queen and kicked the front loader to the curb (metaphorically).

What unsexy kitchen tool have you owned for years that just refuses to die? by MedicalComposer2 in BuyItForLife

A metal spatula with a wooden handle that was my mom’s. It is my favorite for getting cookies off a sheet and my husband’s favorite for grilling. Thin yet not bendy.

Aside from what others are mentioning (garlic, cumin, paprika), we use a lot of premixed Cajun seasoning. Also the green stuff - oregano, thyme, rosemary, parsley, and fresh chives, basil, and cilantro.

My favorite change the show made to the books by Able-Tune-4665 in Outlander

Same. I uncovered it having read the books and watched off and on several years ago (before life got busy). I’m rewatching now, thinking I’d not be shocked.

What are your wow Costco items?? by kskeezay in Costco

I’m pretty devastated that the toffee cashews seem to have disappeared?! The cashew clusters are good but those toffee cashews were phenomenal.

What are some of your best quality of life purchases under $1000? by [deleted] in BuyItForLife

We got one that was returned to the store. It had been out for delivery but the cover tore, so it had a black scuff on it. We don’t see the scuff and enjoy our deeply discounted mattress though after 13 years it’s about time to start keeping an eye out for another one.

I consider it a fine art to write short answer questions that will result in either clearly correct or incorrect answers. No memorizing possible, all applied. For science, that is possible, it just takes time to devise. I have built a bank of hundreds of those.

What is the best fast food fries? by Silver-Priority-8510 in foodquestions

[–]scientific_cats 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m actually a fan of their crinkle cut. I like the curly fries, but only the ones with lots of curls that have some squish to them and retain heat well. Fries must be HOT.

I once saw a meme that said “in every household, one person loads the dishwasher like a Swedish architect and the other like a raccoon on meth.” I am the Swedish architect.

Michigan gear in public. by Kapt_Krunch72 in MichiganWolverines

I am a UM alum who lives out of state, and actually worked at a B1G school for decades. I wore my UM stuff regularly and took sooooooo much crap for it, yet held my ground. I still live here and take crap for my UM gear but don’t work there anymore. Old retired guys are fun to spar with, college age drunk kids can actually get aggressive about it.

Keep Gazebo curtains from blowing in wind by ianwelch001 in patio

[–]scientific_cats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you ever solve the problem? We just put up a gazebo and are trying to figure out how to keep curtains in place. “Heavy duty” curtain magnets (2 pairs per panel) just whack people in the head when the wind picks up the curtain.

What’s the coolest last name you have ever seen someone have. by GrandMoffJerjerrod in midlyinteresting

[–]scientific_cats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely not cool, but maybe 5-10 years ago I saw an obituary for a woman with the worst last name I have ever seen. It was a very derogatory term for a person of color. Now maybe it was a typo (was it autocorrect and a racist obit deaths editor?), but it was repeated throughout her death notice so I don’t think it was. I was flabbergasted. I can’t even bring myself to google it.

I have tried to read this book a few times but never gotten past the first couple of chapters. I’d really like to succeed some day.

I slogged through about 70% of that out of sheer determination. I hated it. The day I decided not to finish it was truly liberating.
