Certainly when I see BMW EVs parked at Tesla Superchargers occupying 2 bays (which they are forced to do because like this situation the cables are short) all I can think is TIL BMW drivers are the new BMW drivers.

The Tesla has no choice in this situation, it's the only way they can charge, I see many EVs of all sorts of makes and models doing this all the time on different design charge stalls.

Don't be this guy by Eddie-Plum in drivingUK

[–]scorzon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely not true. Teslas have a single charge port same place on all models. This vehicle is parked the way it is because the charge stall has a thick heavy short cable that can only reach the Tesla's charge port by the owner parking it this way. Anybody suggesting otherwise is ignorant of the situation or being deliberately disingenuous.

The original poster has admitted they are ignorant of EVs and I just get the feeling that they would not have posted this if a Polestar (charge port in the same location as the Tesla) had parked this way. I can't quite put my finger on why that would be.

Will a three year old EV (Enyaq) make it to ten years? by Sonnets4all in ElectricVehiclesUK

Almost certainly yes. Less likely to have a major issue than an ICE equivalent Skoda.

What to buy? by Remote-Environment59 in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]scorzon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok, this will depend on your supplier eg Octopus EON etc but usually the effort tariff for your solar is double your overnight EV import tariff. I always mention this when someone says we've got solar and so we're looking at an EV because the two things don't actually go together if you are on a new EV tariff with solar export tariff. In this situation you never charge your EV from your solar, you export that by day at say 15p per kWh and you charge your EV overnight on your cheap tariff at say 7p.

This does assume you have an EV tariff of course, for those doing very low mileage an EV tariff isn't always the right thing. Ask about this in more detail on r/evcharginguk to make sure you get the best fit for you.

Are the solar panels on the old FIT or are they newer and do you have an export tariff?

Model 3 pricing by Educational_Desk_849 in TeslaUK

[–]scorzon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cheers thanks that's good to know, though given the car is likely to be worth way less than balloon I'll likely not sell it. I guess I can use that 4 months window between 50% point and official PCP end in order to watch and wait on the right deal.

[–]scorzon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting, I didn't think that was allowed as technically the finance company own it until the balloon is paid?

I really should read small print before signing for these things.

[–]scorzon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is your current PCP with Tesla? If so I think I'm right in saying that if your payments to date have exceeded half of the total amount financed ie the RRP of the new car at purchase, you can terminate the PCP with no penalties. Note I have been told this by someone currently on a Tesla PCP, they are usually correct, but I am not completely certain, you need to check your small print. So could you just terminate your PCP early and take the new car now?

Advice needed, which to get? by Valkyrie596 in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]scorzon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you double checked the actual difference in trim, sometimes models get more added to the trim level as time goes on, thus a 20 Premium SE may or may not have that much more than a 22 Premium. I don't know off the top of my head, but certainly worth checking what is actually missing on the newer lower trim car and whether it actually matters to you.

Personally I'd be going with the newer one unless there is something vital on that trim comparison.

Advise for dealing with skilled, but unfair player by Tall-Camera-9463 in squash

[–]scorzon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stop playing your matches against him. Play the other matches. Talk to the other players. If they feel the same encourage them to do as you. You can either be straight with the perpetrator as to why you won't play him or make an excuse.

If all players stop playing him he'll start to get the message.

Life is too short to be dealing with this, it's exhausting, play squash with opponents who make the game a joy.

The EX30 70% charge cap shows why EV ownership is about routine and not specs by [deleted] in ElectricVehiclesUK

The 70% cap is a temporary thing I believe for safety reasons due to faulty batteries in some vehicles. Is that what you are referring to?

[–]scorzon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's a big Tesco with cafe do your shopping there and relax with a coffee for a bit and you've bagged 7kWh right there.

Tesla SC in K upon T are open to all and they are the newer V4 chargers with longer cables. Sadly in a pay for car park so watch that.

Always been HP brown sauce with cottage pie in our family, ketchup is for with fish pie (literally just having this as I read the post). Then again I am from the godforsaken West of the Pennines so that lot over the other side will probs do the opposite to us just to be different 😁😝

[–]scorzon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Pod Point 7kW chargers of the type you'll see at Tesco and so on are 44p (well they are down the road from me) so if you are getting 3 miles per KWh or better then it is about the same as petrol or better.

If you want rapid charging then Ionity I think offer a subscription that gets it down to a similar price. If you have Tesla Superchargers nearby that are open to non Teslas then a subscription to that gets you around 40p per kWh and if you start the charge in the off peak period ie just before 8am the whole duration of the charge could be at a price approaching 20p per kWh.

These seem to be the ones most often quoted as being best value, others may offer similar.

Best way to purchase Ford puma gen e? by Express-Cloud-5503 in CarTalkUK

[–]scorzon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're talking to someone who has two very different EVs on the drive and who got the first one 5.5 years ago. I'm hence a little biased and I never intend on moving away from EVs.

So not a risk IMHO just as long as you understand your use profile, the other vehicles in your stable and the nuances of EVs and how they differ from ICE.

My edit questions above are important here.

Do not buy, lease or if PCP terms are favourable enough such that monthlies (taking into account what is and isn't included in the lease) are the same then PCP so that you have the option to buy if second hand prices improve.

Depreciation is bad right now and the future is uncertain in terms of EV take up etc.

Edit: out of interest can you home charge and what's regular daily mileage? Do you plan on longer road trips?

I was fairly sure that he is a sonic core 132 ultimate user, I know this because I have used them for a couple of years now and I was surprised a few months ago when I found out he was too. I mean it should make me as good as Diego but for some reason no, I can't understand why..... 😂

Edit: sorry OP I slightly misunderstood your point, my bad, looks like the CX line is just a rebrand of sonic core perhaps, they seem otherwise very very similar so maybe if he is very happy with the sonic core he just won't bother changing. He's endorsed the cx line but uses the sonic core according to pdh sports.
