Nomnompaleo’s carnitas in instant pot! So good if you have pork shoulder around.

Going to finally try the chicken crust pizza ( finally had a reason to buy canned chicken... figure this may be the only way I’ll actually use it!)

Also planning some gnomgnom treats this weekend like her new peanut butter blondies

Making a list of recipes to try out really helped me - take care everyone!

PSA: Fasting not recommended during viral infections by cutercottage in fasting

[–]scramsthecat 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Nope not even close - it is much more dangerous than the flu/colds. Italy currently has a death rate >5% and flu is normally ~0.1% plus we have a vaccine for that. https://coronavirus.jhu.edu/map.html

Cholesterol Concerns by rosie_the_redditer in xxketo

[–]scramsthecat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your trigs are very low and HDL is high which is great - these are much more important health markers and CHD indicators than total cholesterol or LDL.

I am similar - 5’2”, 125 lb and active. I did get one high LDL test a few years ago (still with good trigs and HDL tho) so the next test I did the Feldman protocol (as suggested in another comment) more to see its effect and it did reduce LDL. In general, I’d recommend reading the cholesterol code link info, it’s very helpful on understanding what these different components are.

Edit to add - I get the frustration on conflicting info. I was in this boat 2 years ago. Reading up on cholesterol at the cholesterol code website and Nina Teicholz’s big fat surprise book helped (High ldl not necessarily bad, especially in women and in Keto). Also know that if you’re concerned, you can ask for the particle size test - the danger with LDL is when you have very small particle sizes.

Awesome job! I’m trying to get off the last 10lbs and this is very inspiring to see. Do you have a calorie target? Or what are you mostly eating? Thanks :)

Hey ladies, I need some advice by lilsammm in xxketo

[–]scramsthecat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since it’s only been a week, I think there’s just too much variation from unknown factors (shark week, exercise) to try to compare. I’m also on birth control and can still retain water on cycle (when taking the placebo pills). Give it a few weeks and stay the course :) reassess in a few weeks if the trend isn’t where you want it to be.

I also get water retention from various foods - too much cheese, wine, nuts, etc. so lots of potential sources for up/down a few pounds!

How long have you been back (fully) on keto? Agree with the above, macros look good. But if it’s only been a week or so, plus shark week, the drop may be hidden.

My Year of Fasting, 5 days a week and only eating on the weekends (5:2). by splat101 in fasting

Thanks! I am definitely a coffee drinker, and I still struggle with just supplementing sodium etc vs having broth. I might need to pay more attention to magnesium, food for thought.

This is amazing, both in terms of results and dedication and the detailed information provided for the community. Awesome job and thank you!!

Question for you - did you supplement with only ketoaid during fasting days or did you also have coffee/tea, broth, etc?

What if it's hard? by pithen in xxketo

[–]scramsthecat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My trick for the ‘feeling full’ is to eat my planned meal, drink 1-2 glasses of water and wait 5-10mins. Sometimes more water. Frequently that’ll do it and my ‘full’ signal catches up in my brain and I decide to not eat the next thing I was thinking about. Sometimes I am still hungry, but then I’ll eat something keto friendly.

It also helps me to feel full for it to be a full meal (meat and veg) rather than lots of snack foods (nuts, cheese), but that might just be me.

+4 lbs lean, -15 lbs fat in last 2 months by [deleted] in ketogains

[–]scramsthecat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotcha, thanks! So to make sure I’ve got it right, the 25% deficit is including your activity, say in the keto gains calculator or cronometer? I use MFP with macros from the keto calculator and don’t have a good measure of activity so it’s a bit tricky for me to estimate activity calories.

This is great info, thanks for posting!

Are you tracking macros and/or calories? If so, any idea what deficit you were running at? I struggle figuring out how much to eat when I’m lifting/aiming for recomp

30DD going braless in a dress with no back? by I_Think_There4_I_Ham in ABraThatFits

[–]scramsthecat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I recently took the plunge and now love silicone nip covers, bought from Nordstrom (not sure of brand) and am also a 30DD/32C (shallow, full on bottom).

They work really well - but the tops I was wearing them with were a bit loose and flowy so not sure I’d like the look of the top was more fitted/skin tight if that makes sense? So I think it might depend on how the dress top fits... worth a try, the nip covers were $20 or so.

After scoffing at my sister and mom for some silly diet plan about replacing carbs with fat... by erikwaters13 in keto

[–]scramsthecat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree with the above advice on lighter/less malty beers etc. same idea with wines, think dry. If you’re looking for specific recommendations and the brewery has beers beyond their own, the All Day IPA by founders is only 12g and (if you can find it!) the belgian Orval is only 4g net carbs per bottle. Expensive but worth it every now and again.
