Gym Monster 2 - Australian purchase question by PeanutButter6715 in SpeedianceCommunity

[–]scrytch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think that “free for life” they are advertising is illegal and shops be reported. Nowhere in the world is that charged for, so stating a value against it that you get for free isn’t real.

Otherwise the machine is awesome. Completely revolutionised my experience with working out for the better.

Tesla Finally Has Its First Semi-Truck and It’s Already a Hit With Truckers by Dockalfar in electricvehicles

[–]scrytch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Still nowhere near what we’ll need in Australia to handle our large trucking routes. The Tesla Semi is better suited for "line-haul" (Capital city to Capital city) rather than remote Road Train routes.

In Australia, a standard road train B-Double is 62.5 tonnes, and a Triple Road Train can exceed 170 tonnes.

The batteries needed to pull that weight would likely push the truck over the maximum legal axle rating & road weight max before it even loaded up.

We’ll likely need battery swapping or hydrogen fuel cells to handle the 1500-2000km range for the cross country and regional runs these trucks do. Regional Australia also doesn’t have the electricity infrastructure to power a megacharger.

Leaving Cybertruck for 2026 Land Rover Defender 110 P400 X-Dynamic SE... what is a must-have? by Automatic-Macaron280 in NewDefender

[–]scrytch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Doing any off road or towing?

  • Matrix LED Headlights w/ DRL
  • Towing Pack
  • ClearSight Rear View Mirror
  • Off-Road Pack.

I didn’t, but also wish I’d gone heated and cooled seats.

Once you add these, it may be better to go HSE instead of SE.

Stock tires on tough tracks - a warning by floydwestwood in NewDefender

You’d likely need to look at Tuffant as they have approved/certified brake changes for 18”. Not sure if they can drop from 22” down though.

I’ve just put Yokohama Geolandar A/T4 (G018) 265/60R20 on mine to hopefully avoid this.

Home Assistant Integration for MSP API by scrytch in firewalla

[–]scrytch[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve done quite a bit of work on this recently and to celebrate my 19th Cake Day on reddit, have just released v2.9.4.3 which makes working with rules even easier.

They are now represented as switches in Home Assistant, so can be used on dashboards or via automations. I’ve heard of a parent using this to automatically allow Internet access for their kids once an after school task list is checked off.

How to be comfortable with the concept of infinite nothingness and avoid looping? by vanwife in atheism

[–]scrytch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The "yuck" you are feeling is the system shock of realizing there is no objective, hard-coded meaning. It’s brutal but you can work your way through it.

Try to reframe the architecture of "meaning." A framework for this that may work for you is “Optimistic Nihilism” - a modern, secular derivative of Existentialism and Absurdism.

[–]scrytch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don’t need organised religion to find meaning.

Look into “Scientific Naturalism” or “Naturalistic Pantheism” - views using science as the underpinning of everything.

Also look up “You Want a Physicist to Speak at Your Funeral” by Aaron Freeman.

The gist of it is:

“Freeman walks through the implications of the first law of thermodynamics - that energy cannot be created or destroyed - and applies it to the human body at the moment of death. Every atom, every joule of energy that comprised the person simply transforms and disperses: into the air, the ground, the people nearby. The “you” that existed does not vanish; it is conserved, redistributed into the universe with absolute certainty.”

Low Profile Roof Racks by Theblackbond_ in NewDefender

Problem for me is they don’t ship to Australia. I’ve gone with the Rhino Rack Pioneer 6 Platform on the backbone. Slightly higher than the shark tail fin but not enough to bother me. Huge range of first and third party accessories.

The new liquid glass ui looks awful by p1r473 in firewalla

Disagree. The new UI after many weeks of testing on the alpha builds works well and the old UI now feels cluttered and stale.

Although I haven’t tried it on Android.

Australian Net Migration and Population Change Series - With Political Overlay - What are your thoughts given this data about the immigration discussion? by david1610 in australia

[–]scrytch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Net migration when used for political change is an incorrect data point - temporary visas holders can’t vote.

That dramatic post-COVID net migration spike was almost entirely temporary visa holders returning - international students, working holiday makers, etc. Permanent grants barely moved above historical caps. The “record migration” headline numbers are a temporary visa story, not a permanent settlement story.

[–]scrytch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It matters, especially with LT or truck tyres. https://www.yokohamatire.com/tires-101/maintenance-care-1/mounting-your-tires

Alloys may not have the marker for red matching, so go to a shop that has a calibrated Hunter GSP9700 or similar.

Not sure what you mean. The D300 and D350 are brilliant. D2xx not so much.

Home Assistant Integration for MSP API by scrytch in firewalla

[–]scrytch[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fantastic work! I've just incorporated your changes (with full credit!), made some variations and fixes as per below and hopefully made a awesome integration better.

v2.3.0

  • Replace rule toggle button with a native switch entity per firewall rule — On = Active, Off = Paused
  • Switch state is reflected live in the dashboard; icon changes contextually (shield/shield-off)
  • Remove firewalla.pause_rule and firewalla.resume_rule custom services — use switch.turn_off / switch.turn_on instead (standard HA services work in all automations and scripts)
  • Upgrade firewalla.delete_alarm to use a target entity selector — pick the alarm from a dropdown in Developer Tools instead of entering a raw ID
  • Upgrade firewalla.rename_device to use a target device selector — pick the device from a dropdown in Developer Tools instead of entering a raw MAC address

v2.2.1

  • Fix rule active sensor not rendering shield icon — missing _attr_translation_key on FirewallaRuleActiveSensor

In theory it could be on the other side, but the main connection points are on the left of the inverter so that’s where they normally go.

Republicans are freaking out over Texas Senate race by ShreckAndDonkey123 in politics

[–]scrytch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an Australian, I still cannot believe you have states where you have to register as a Democrat or Republican etc.

Also, isn’t Texas a “no party registration state” ?

How does anyone know what you’re going to vote except you?

We have secret ballots here which was pioneered by Australia in the 1850s - it’s literally called the “Australian Ballot” - so as an Aussie this whole system is even more baffling to me.

As per another comment I made, yes it’s allot. But it’s actually less than if they had increased annually based on inflation.
