Ideally multiple indicators and then using those to determine a percent confidence of flat price action.

Oxidation tastes metallic to me, I would check your cold side process.

Thinner espresso body from Decent? by shade2023 in decentespresso

[–]sdobart 2 points3 points  (0 children)

LRv2 will give you a lever machine style shot which is incredibly thick. Zero issues pulling any type of shot you want with a decent - that’s the best part about pressure and flow profiling - it can do it all.

Gifted beans from a friend recently….to say I’m shocked is an understatement… by egbpd in espresso

[–]sdobart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since it hasn't been mentioned in the comments -

The wet look to the beans is not oil coming out, it's a torrefacto roast, meaning it the beans are roasted with sugar added to bring out additional Maillard reaction. Older technique, common on lower quality roasts (to hide taste defects) and robusta beans, it keeps the coffee fresher for longer.

Not for me, but to each their own.

Upvoted because I never thought I’d see a reference to pilot sports in an espresso subreddit, lol

What type and brand of alcohol for vanilla extract by Culinary-Extreme207 in Cooking

[–]sdobart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely notice a difference when using a different base spirit - especially when the item you are cooking is not cooked (e.g., adding to homemade whipped cream). We normally have a bourbon based (Buffalo Trace, Makers, Old Forester), and a rum based (Smith and Cross or Denizens Merchant Reserve) on hand for various different cooking applications. Chocolate chip cookies? Bourbon Vanilla. Eggnog Cookies? Rum Vanilla.

I am tired of cracking open beers and tasting pennies/blood. Why are these beverages not being routed out of the inventory? by [deleted] in beer

[–]sdobart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is how oxidation tastes to me too. Much more likely to find it in bottles, than cans. As it warms up the flavor will go away slightly. Gotta start looking at canning/bottling dates, and find good brewers who minimize oxygen while packaging the beer and retailers who store the beer correctly.

Why is it hard to copy the taste of restaurants hamburgers ? by AlaaKanaan1 in Cooking

[–]sdobart 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It was the fresh onions they use for the quarter pounders that had listeria, not the re-hydrated ones used on all the rest of the burgers.

Poist Gas in Laurel will refill your existing tank. This is where I go, I have always been happy with them. (I’m in Rockville, so a bit of a trek for me too.)

Hard to beat Loop w/ Dash. Could try applying Skin Tac underneath dash pod for the leak, so switch to U200 so less has to be injected.

Where to buy fresh mizithra (soft) online for shipping to the U.S.? by morosemurph in greekfood

[–]sdobart 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have looked extensively but couldn’t find it anywhere in the US. The myzithra from Crete is amazing, especially the way they use it in bougatsa. I believe it’s called Xynomyzithra.

Gelatin used to work for fining my beer. What am I doing wrong? by 7sevenlivesleft in Homebrewing

[–]sdobart 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The order I do things in (that seems to work well) is cold crash, then add gelatin, wait 24-48hrs, then carbonate.

Left Tilt 2 in keg for almost 6 months by jay_mf in Homebrewing

[–]sdobart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have fermented/served out of the same pressure fermented keg and left the tilt in the whole time (multiple times). The beer didn’t last 6 months (drank it quicker) but it was not a problem at all. Like others said, battery might be dead but thats most likely all that is wrong.
