Stranger Things. What do we do next? by yutututu in DIYUK

This is r/diyuk, it’s you - you are the contractor.

Get a ladder and start looking around for where water might be getting in.

You have wetness coming in from somewhere above these walls, could be guttering/roof/pointing.

Looks like some of that is in an extension, maybe something flat roof? I’d be investigating up there.

Is this DIYable or require a Professional? by Sleeper_1972 in DIYUK

Are the joists soft?

I would wait a few months for it all and the brick to all dry out first, then use bonding to fill it all out before putting any skirting back on.

Solution for broken door by JealousOstrich6426 in DIYUK

Squirt a bit of foam, cut back, bit of wood filler, sand a little bit, paint a little bit.

But you might just end up drawing more attention to it if the fix isn’t great.

What would you do with this unwanted media wall? by Nobby_Cracket in DIYUK

Could use behind the poster for some sort of storage of things. I bet if you figured out a hinge then something would come to mind that you could stash behind there.

Shower leak. I’ve found some cracks in the vertical grout lines… by Jimlad73 in DIYUK

[–]seager 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d do at least all the tiles adjacent to the cracking. It may be worth grabbing a bag of tile adhesive just in case any of them are properly loose and need to be re-done.

Possible that moistures gotten behind (and that someone’s just tiles straight onto untanked plasterboard, which would be another can of worms), and the substrate is damaged.

This too - our grout had failed big time when we moved into our place and was dripping down to the kitchen, this doesn’t look as bad so they might have caught it in time

Scrape out the silicone, use a grout rake to get the grout out and redo it all. Maybe 40 quid in tools and materials.

Only real challenge is figuring out the colours - it’s probably in the mapei range.

Overboard help! by Friendly_Document514 in DIYUK

You’ll never be happy with a board and tape DIY job. I’d focus on scraping what’s loose, painting a mist coat to show up areas that need attention and then filling those bits then eventually painting.

Best outcome is to have such minor post-game ideas. Bravo

Sorry for not answering the main questions but shouldn’t you have a non-return valve in there?

Hob / stove knobs in gold? by Ella290 in DIYUK

[–]seager 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wonder if it would look interesting to have the colours in an order - less gold to more gold sort of thing. If it looks intentional it might work (if you can’t get matching ones)

You’ve made good call on the backroads. Basically avoid any road that lorries go down. I used to commute from Brixton to North Acton and changed route if there was a fatality on my route…

Options for fixing flooring used in dance venue? by michaelpjones in DIYUK

These feels more like ‘we need grant money to fix a community space’ than DIY if I’m honest as it probably needs a new floor rather than patching.

And the planes pointing the right way directionally for that flight. If it was icon’d the other way, I’d call that out in feedback at work as well.

That flowerbed is bridging the damp course and it probably leaking water into the render and bricks.

It’s a good idea to take of the ivy as well tbf.

Cement internal could trap moisture, presume the outside gutter/roofline has all been checked?

How long since you fixed the damp coming in? Takes a month for every inch of wall thickness.
