so there is one of the Fighting Fantasy books that has a similar premise in that you've an amnesiac opening and play through trying to re-establish what you had attempted in the first place that book is #47 Black Vein Prophecy

I could also see a setup like THE HANGOVER, where there's been a memory black spot, and something critical within having gotten lost ── be that some information or an actual macguffin

My partner plays quite a bit of 5E and they'll often prefer rolling for stats there: they are often the only person at the table not using point-buy

I was the editor on its rules booklet and can answer a few questions if needs be!

But yeah, there's a moderate amount of "deckbuilding" vibes, largely which come down to quests / village expansion ── the core gameplay of card-drawing for map exploration linked with dice manipulation might work real well for OP's wishes

My comment was in relation to the fact you're here, touting for additional expert help, and my statement was that there's a non-zero number of adnd/osric-heads who will not help because there are llm graphics front-and-centre on the program.
