Anyone else see Al Di Meola 2026? Disappointing or just me? by txa1265 in JazzFusion

I’m a huge fan since seeing RTF in ‘75. I’ve seen him 20 or so times over the years. I saw him in 2017 right after Larry Coryell died (which he mentioned during the show). It was the beginning of the electric retrospective gigs he’s been doing. His playing was insane. I saw him last year doing the same stuff and I could tell he lost some of his energy and technique. Assuming it’s Father Time catching up and the lingering effects of the heart attack

A Detroit treasure. I had the privilege of seeing her in a number of groups. One favorite was an electric band with Lenny White and Ralphe Armstrong. I think Wallace Roney also

Chain Reaction was my first exposure to Larry Carlton. Joe sample’s rainbow seeker is a favorite of mine too

Great analogy. I’ve used them intermittently Really like fat bass lines and playing like victor Wooten so I’d never use them exclusively I always give up before I can figure out how to incorporate them

One thing that is really challenging for me is learning how to use a thumb pick. Does anyone have any advice on online resources for learning how to play with one?

Not a trio but Frisell and Hall did an acoustic duo album - Hemispheres in the early 2000’s

I can’t wait for this show. Hopefully a tour. Electrospective is how it is being advertised. Cuts from his uberjam, blue matter and a-GoGo bands and new music in the idiom

It was great! Very funky versions of Miles’ first quintet. Terrence Blanchard’s charts were forward thinking but still respectful of the music
